Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

In general a very clean race with some great passing moves going on as well. The red zone was clean and there were no incidents reported. No irregularities detected with resets.

Jonny took the lead starting from pole. Despite making a mistake after some laps in the Schikane he was able to keep the lead when Phil came close, and then gradually increased his lead to win the race completing a hattrick with pole, fastest lap and win! Phil initially was 3rd but made a great pass on David Rainier for P2 on Lap 5, using the Eagle's grunt to go by David's Brabham into Emco's Kurve. Phil ran a very concistent race to the checkers increasing his championship lead. David had the same pace as Phil, but made a mistake halfway and had to settle for the final podium spot.

Billy, Bernie and Michael did also a great job finishing this race. Commiserations must go to the retirements, especially Dave Curtis who ran solidly in 4th. Dave had eventually to retire on Lap 30 with a technical problem out of his hands. Very tough luck.

Season 27 Privateers Trophy - Round 4 - Salzburgring

The race track was first opened in 1968. Lying in a narrow, alpine valley, it has a rather simple layout, with two long straights plus the sweeping and fast "Fahrerlagerkurve" ("paddock turn") at the bottom of the course, and the narrow "Nockstein-Kehre" at the top. In spite of its simple layout, it garnered a fearsome reputation for the high speeds reached on the straights and the "Fahrerlagerkurve". Aussie 500cc two-wheeler great Wayne Gardner won here in 1987 on his way to Australia's first modern motorcycle racing World Title. This track is fearsomely fast, should be fun!

There are more versions but we use Salzburgring76!

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL9
IP = 37.157.48.87
Race date = Sunday 12-10-2014
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Salzburgring76 or use GPL Trackbase
Race length = 39 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Semperit Kurve on Lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

A new track for me & no 1967 F1 lap records.

So I have a benchmark it would help if anyone could post their times (& what chassis). Ultimately, this might just cause depression by confirming my lack of pace.

Thanks.

Billy, I always check GPLRank for target times...just look for drivers around your skill and chassis to compare...it's a new track to me as well...

So far best lap 1m16.2s in BRM on lower fuel, first test session though...

Good luck! Smiley

I did 1'17''0 with Brabham and 1'16"5 with Ferrari, yesterday (in sessions of 10 laps).

DSL has been up/down again;  mainly down.
But have just managed to get track downloaded/installed!

If I make it to the end (or even 50%) I'll be amazed...  right,  better test a setup or two...

Cheers,
Dave.

After some error arrive the usual engine explosion followed by another error........better to retire the car.
Omiting this and  cheking my laps with the replay analizer(compared with others)i discover that my car ,like in other race,is 10Km slower on the straight.This happens also with the F2.Compared with Torton(in Salzurg he have used the Eagle)the difference is 20Km.My top speed was 271 and Phil 293.Is probably a problem of potentiometer but idon't know what i can do.

Fran - go to settings page in GPL.  Push down the pedals and the wheel and save this calibration.  This idea is too easy, I know this, but I try to help. Undecided

Once it had settled down & some drivers had dropped out; was going pretty well I thought.

However, something that did come to light was that when I popped a SSD drive in over the weekend;  there appears to have been some power profile rudely configured to switch off my monitor after 15mins.  So there was a spin/crash when it all went black!  Luckily,  not THAT much time lost & I don't think there was anyone around at the time. Apologies if so...

The top 3 were away with it & I was pretty happy in 4th.  However, I kept forgetting that raised green picnic site around that left hand corner which just invites you to go faster.  Ended up on there a few times.

Then with about 10laps to go,  car stopped moving & engine noise just dropped lower & lower & lower.    My other screen still showed Internet connection still operational.   I guess I'll show as a disco then;  at least got past 50% & other retirements before me Wink

Cheers all,
Dave.

It was good to be back racing. I had not prepared much for the race, but the car felt good during qualifying. I enjoyed racing against Bernie, Bad Blood and Michael Turner. I do OK in the 67's until it is time to push, and then I make mistakes. My second mistake was going to require a shift - R, and then my wife called me into the other room. So that was it. Race over for today. I did have fun, and I am looking forward to the next one.

Thanks, WC

Martin ,is not a problem of calibration.The calibration was done before the race.I don't know if is the potentiometer not original.My pedal are not in production again and i have changed the potentiometer some time ago becouse the original was worn.

With my G25 pedals,  I had a spiking pot which seemed to lead to some interesting acceleration situations & related noises a couple of seasons ago.
Had to do this a couple of times now,  but was able to get in the case & spray a load of contact cleaner inside the pot using a thin plastic straw.

There are certainly some online resources showing opening up troublesome pots & giving them a proper clean if they aren't too worn,  but I've not have to go that far yet.  Maybe a quick'n'dirty spray will do the trick...

Cheers,
Dave.

Didn't know this track at all but got 30 mins praccy in and although I was slow felt that I could find lots of time. Started off nice and steady and ended up chasing Michael - got a bit close through the schikane and had to bail out into the tyres... chased Bernie down and then lost it again clipping a kerb. Now I had Walt and Bernie to catch. Up and down and lots of fun but ended up spinning a couple of times where I pushed too hard and then got horribly motion sick, which seems to be the theme of my season. Sigh.

Might get to 50% at Spa!
