Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

In general a very clean race with some great passing moves going on as well. The red zone was clean and there were no incidents reported. No irregularities detected with resets.

Jonny took the lead starting from pole. Despite making a mistake after some laps in the Schikane he was able to keep the lead when Phil came close, and then gradually increased his lead to win the race completing a hattrick with pole, fastest lap and win! Phil initially was 3rd but made a great pass on David Rainier for P2 on Lap 5, using the Eagle's grunt to go by David's Brabham into Emco's Kurve. Phil ran a very concistent race to the checkers increasing his championship lead. David had the same pace as Phil, but made a mistake halfway and had to settle for the final podium spot.

Billy, Bernie and Michael did also a great job finishing this race. Commiserations must go to the retirements, especially Dave Curtis who ran solidly in 4th. Dave had eventually to retire on Lap 30 with a technical problem out of his hands. Very tough luck.

New track for me too and after briefly trying to get a clear lap without incident I had given up on the idea of completing the required 50% quite surprised to get a 5th place finish though down to others misfortune and  not my own brilliance .
Found it very difficult to get anything like the times those aliens were doing on the practise server so went with the borne beast so as not to throw away good points . Comes the race started at a leisurely pace and that was how it stayed , whenever I tried to push it along my tyres would quickly go to meltdown state and I would have to back off to let things cool down . Don't understand Pribluda's colour scheme , my tyres only seem to work when they are blue , any other shade and I lose grip like a fish on an iceberg ! according to the instruction book,  the best traction is with green , but it doesnt seem the case with me .

Grats to the podium boys  Smiley

Well done Mike too for a great Soggies result  Smiley

Bring on Spa , I have been promised a Lotus drive there  Wink

Tricky little track this one with lots of scope for crashing.
I had an hours practise earlier in the week to learn the track and set up the car but perhaps I could have done with more time as the Cooper was a bit of a handful. I was satisfied with the front end grip but the rear of the car was all over the place! None the less, I was really pleased with my qualifying time which I set early on with a low fuel run. I quickly realized however that on full tanks the car was going to be too twitchy to push on and determined that I would not push too hard in the race. Come the green flag though and that though went up in tyre  smoke and I pushed as best as I could but in truth I was struggling. I had been out all day and was frankly far too tired to be racing and sure enough I made mistakes, dropped positions, explored the grass and eventually slammed it into the barriers at the Ost curve.
All in all, a poor race by anyone's standards, and a disappointment to me after the good result from Monza.
Oh, well, that's life I suppose,
Cy'all next time!

A rare outing in the Cooper & bit more practice than usual to learn a new track & find a set up to my liking. The oil temperature was pretty much in the red the whole race & I was half expecting the engine to expire at some point.

Jonny O, Phil & Rainer were too quick & that wouldn’t have changed much if I had a faster car. From the grid DC ‘s Brabham out dragged me & was steadily pulling away. Once the race settled down there was battle with Blito for a few laps until the track took its toll. DC retired about half way leaving me in 4th – slower than the cars in front but  with a gap to those left behind. All I had to do was avoid mistakes – so I span into Turn 1 on the next 2 laps. Fortunately no damage & I kept  4TH Spot.

Good choice of track. Cooper was OK & allows me to take something with a bit more grunt at Spa.

Assume that we are driving the Papyrus original & the new long awaited, remodelled track is still ... long awaited.

With my G25 pedals,  I had a spiking pot which seemed to lead to some interesting acceleration situations & related noises a couple of seasons ago.
Thank you for the suggestion Dave.I think that could be also a problem of allignement, but is very difficult to work with this allignement.Anyway i follow also your suggestion.

Decided to take the Eagle; I thought I had made a mistake because the rear tyres kept overheating but it looks like several other people had similar problems with different chassis.  Maybe it is a characteristic of this circuit?

Anyway qualified 3rd which I was quite happy with.  I didn't expect to challenge JonnyO, his pole time was just too quick but I hoped to be able to fight for second place.  Got a great start but so did JonnyO and David.  I definitely had a power advantage over David's Brabham on the straight but I struggled to stay with him on the twisty bits.  I just had to hang on and wait for an opportunity to pass.  Fortunately for me, David made a very small mistake at the Schikane on lap 4 which gave me the chance to get a better exit onto the finish straight and I managed to overtake him into the Emco Kurve.  After that it was a matter of managing the tyres and hoping for JonnyO to make a mistake, which he did on about lap 6 or 7 but after that he pulled away for an easy win.  I was concerned that David would mount an attack in the latter stages of the race but I managed to circulate fast enough to keep ahead.  David put in a faster lap than me so he had the speed but whether he would have been able to overtake me is another matter.  It would have been difficult to pass an Eagle in a Brabham on this circuit.  The only decent overtaking places were in the braking zones and it would be difficult to keep a Brabham close enough to mount a viable challenge under braking.

Grats to JonnyO on a dominant win.  Nice racing David, it's always a pleasure to race with you.  Hope George Cheeseman sorts out his diary and makes the next round Smiley

A fairly uneventful race for me though a couple of offs put me down the track and meant I had to keep an eye open all the time for lappers. I managed a couple of sub 1.20s and finished in the points not too far behind Bernie so a satisfactory result.
