Moderator's Report

No incident reported.
3 shift-R, all have been correctly followed by a stop and go.

One incident during red zone...

Server replay time: 0h00m50s

Billy got a very nice pos.2 on the grid but he made a very slow start (he wrote his 1st gear was too long) and was overtaken by several drivers.
Unfortunately, he was rear ended by Kai at the second turn. Both drivers could continue the race without big troubles but Fabio was an innocent victim and retired without shift-R (why ?).

Season 27 Amateurs Trophy - Round 6 – Solitude

65 Ams are in Germany to race at Solitude. Mainly used as a motorcycle circuit, Solitude was used in the early 60’s for a number of Formula 1 & Formula 2 races.
The name is taken from a local castle but it’s a long track so you may get quite lonely if you lose touch with the pack.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under INT rules and only one reset is allowed, followed by a stop and go in the pits.
65 Patch: The 2.02 Release of the 65mod can and should be used. You need a working installation of the 65 mod to install the 2.02 Update. All the 65 Mod files can be found here

Ended up quite enjoying it although it was tough. Couldn't quite keep pace with Dave and JP ahead and had to give up with four to go.... on to Silverstone, which has never been kind to me.

Congratulations to the podium, I however was well off the pace- I tried the wheel and peddles again but am still not good on the brakes. I liked the circuit it was my first visit but hopefully I can do better next time.

Tough round;  my wheel was rather hot after - must have been all that force-feedback work that was required...

Been here a couple of times in other series,  but not in 65's.  And after the race last night,  I STILL don't know the wiggly bit on the way back too well.

I had downloaded a 'Solitude setup',   but as I figured the track is maybe a bit like a condensed Nurburg [or maybe, that is an extended Solitude..?],   tried someone else's Nurby setup too.   The setup for the longer track won this time;   but I wonder if things would have been different if I'd tried them in a different order... Wink

Was happy with getting a PB during practice/qually session,  but the chaps ahead looked way quicker.   I figured I'd have to try to make as many places from the start & try to hang on as much as possible. Mostly worked too;  up into 4th then 3rd & even 2nd for about 50 yards after using a tow from DR.  Then  I dropped it under braking at the hairpin near the hotel/restaurant(?).   Maybe I was trying to leave a little too much room,   but I was trying to be completely sure there would be no chance of a tangle with the stronger teammate.

A bit later,  could have done without the nerf/reset and the stop&go;  but that did get me fired-up.

In the late stages,  I was lucky that JP must have had a couple of issues as he was getting ever nearer. Also,  it seemed that MH must have been getting a bit ragged as I was able to make up a lot of ground in the last few laps. In the end, I just had to get as close as possible in case of any mishaps & there it was; at the hotel/restaurant [speciality pies maybe?].

Realistically, I should have finished behind MH & JP,  [MH in particular who really seemed to be on a mission for the rest of the race]   but I was lucky this time out.

Cheers all & thanks to Paul on the practice server;   that close running helped somewhat come the race.

Dave.

Not the nicest of outings.  My brm 'mobile must've ended up a lot lighter than it started, after all the frames it dropped along the way!

Hazardous opening laps, with the lead pack ahead jumping about.  Made Dave's race more interesting, when he suddenly appeared on my nose.  Apologies, and a storming recovery, damn you!

Somehow survived the glitches, and at one point challenged for the lead.  But by race end I was just about at the end of my wick, and it's hard to light when it's gone out.  Grumble . . . grumble! Tongue

Very exciting race, 12 laps closely following BRM's RogUK and 2 laps leading after I found a possibility to overtake at turn 2.
There was a little contact at turn3  but RogUK's fairplay was at the top !
Thanks for it, Rog !

I was almost sad to win, because I could imagine how Rog should be frustrated to loose so close to the finish, after leading 90% of the race !

I was stressed during a big part of the race, due to Martin following very closely ...as I knew Maddog's brakes are not always enough hot !
After a few laps, I decided to let him pass, hoping he will put a big pressure on Rog ...and even more    oops
but he made some mistakes and was not a big danger anymore.

I really should have practiced a bit more. Solitude is one of those tracks that takes a while to learn & you can shave off quite a bit of time. Interesting that most drivers got faster race laps than qually, perhaps some tow on the long straight.

Solitude also sorts the men from the boys – the laps times in the Pros versus the Ams were awesome.

Qually was good. My hot lap put me on pole for a few moments until some bloke called Rog nicked it by the odd tenth.

My excuse for the poor race result (I have a big book of excuses) was gear ratios. First gear was clearly too long. In the drag down to T1 I dropped about four places. As the pack was just streaming past I kept a wide line into T1 which caught out Kai who ran into me. (No hard feelings after what happened at East London).  I lost too much ground to the leading pack so I just used the race to try & nab fastest lap, which (a) didn’t work & (b) led to a few more unnecessary errors.
Hopefully I might get one decent performance in the 2nd half of the season.

Well done to the podium (especially the Black Nights).

Hi guys. I want to apologize to Billy for the accident at the start. Please believe me, this was not revenge for East London. You were very slowly at the Start and I was therefore surprised. I hope the next time it goes better for both of us and we could have a beer if we were to see us. Last but not least, I wish all 2 beautiful weeks until the next race.
By and congratulations to the Winner

No problem Kai - my first gear was far too long. See you at Silverstone.
