Season 27 Friday Trophy - Rounds 25 & 26 - Monza 10K 69Xtra

Welcome to the next round for the Friday Trophy, we stay in Italy. It will take place on the infamous Monza 10K circuit. It’s the traditional Monza track with a banked oval which had been used for Formula 1 until 1961. Much of the race will taken in top gear & there will be plenty of opportunity for drafting.

This seasons tracks will be easy and well known to have a smaller time gap between the lights and heavies,
if there is a too big gap on a track, a stop and go for the lights in the 30min race will be recommended!

This is really designed to be a fun series with 3 different car mods
- running 1 sprint length race of ~15 min and a ~30 min race with the same car.
- ONE SHIFT-R with NO Stop n Go

Light drivers are restricted to not use the big 4: McLaren M7, Brabham BT26a, Lotus 49b, Matra MS80
Heavy drivers will allways have a free car choice!

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP address = tbc
Race date = 17-10-2014
Variant = 69Xtra
Damage Model = intermediate
Track = Monza 10k

Qualifying 1 Time = 20 minutes, starting  20:45 UK time
Race 1 Time = race 1 starts at ~21:05 UK time
Race 1 length = 15 minutes (6 laps )

Qualifying 2 Time = 10 minutes, starting  ~21:25 UK time
Race 2 Time = race 2 starts at ~21:35 UK time
Race 2 length = 30 minutes (12 laps )

Password: see above
Replay = will be here

Drivers having missed race1 can join the server for the Quali of race2 in IGOR

Please restrict chat to only real necessary messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Races will be moderated for reported incidents only unless there is something VERY BAD happening!! so be nice to each other.  nono

There was no Maserati V12, no Cooper at Monza 1969.
The last F1 race with a Cooper was Monaco 69  Wink

Better, to take the Matra MS80, it won at Monza 69 !

That is part of the fun! Race something which could've run, but didn't Smiley . Perhaps owner Colin Crabbe would've run the Cooper had Vic Elford already recovered from his Nürburgring crash in his McLaren M7b. But he didn't so alas, no Cooper.

Did some practice and got down to 2:22.96 in clean air Smiley . Hope to give some of those Cossies a hard time tonight.

But with this time you are about 3sec slower than the pack... Sad

If you want a challenge, use the 49!  Wink

By some car testing I found: I haven't restricted the use of the MS10.... Roll Eyes

PS

As I allways use 60fps for my practice sessions, this track shows the benefits of it,
when I switched once to 36fps it was realy an insult to my eyes!!!

Yowser!  I know I'm not quick/good,   but had a brief run around here this afternoon & I'm about 1min slower.  Have a feeling that no Internet setup will help  Sad    Although,  I have a feeling I'll also be running around in clean air come the race...!

Cookie, there's only 10 BHP difference in horsepower between the Cooper and the Lotus 49, so I don't think it'll matter much. The V12's will be fast here, so perhaps someone picks a BRM or Ferrari as well. I hope to hang on in the slipstream.

Dave, don't forget to set you wings to zero in the setup! Here is a Matra MS80 setup I got a long time ago:

http://www.grandprixlegends.co.nf/files/TvO_MicMonzaMatraMS80.mu1

Drop it in your player's setup folder, usually C:\Sierra\GPL\players\Curtis69__Dave\setups\monza10k .

It's made by a guy named Michele Sprovieri, he seems to have been part of the 1969 mod team around 2004/5. I just did a 2:19.55 with it Smiley .

I hope most people won't forget to select a graphics setting for their car with the wings off. Would make it more immersive Smiley . For the people that don't know about this, go to your Player Info menu. Right at the bottom of the top half of the screen, there is a 'graphics' chapter with a dropdown box. You can chose between a lot of different wing variations, and with most cars, you can also choose to remove the wings completely. Wink .

Tommie.

Calm down Dave, the times here are ~ 2:20, so if Tommie does not use rocket fuel its just a typing error  Grin

My Lotus 49b just did 2:18:09...

It looks like the top 4 + Matra MS10 can do sub-26 at Monza 67.. should we *lights* stick to Ferrari, BRM or worse? Anyway, if not, I don't mind trying out the MS10, or Ferrari, BRM etc. and of course, things may be different once the wings come off Grin.

Edit: I'm always getting those two mixed up.. and occasionally which cars to pick as consequence  laugh

Thanks for the tips.   However, when the wings came off - the car started wandering around a bit!
Also thanks for the MS80 setup  - didn't use it in it's entirety as thought I should probably stick with the setup I had already practiced with [with some wing changes];  but did just copy ratios for 4th & 5th.
Anyway, I wimped out & stuck some small winglets back on.  Still crashed out too many times;  apologies again Dean. As mentioned,  I'd already learned in event1 to not clip the flat bit at the bottom of the banking,  so just tried to keep out a bit so as to not do that again.

I guess that makes a pair of wooden spoons for the collection;  another set of salad servers then!

Cheers all & fantastic looking scrap for the podium in race2 - I stayed on to watch that one!

Dave.
