Season 27 Friday Trophy - Rounds 27 & 28 - Monza 10K Sport Cars

Welcome to the next round for the Friday Trophy, we stay in Italy. It will take place on the infamous Monza 10K circuit. It’s the traditional Monza track with a banked oval which had been used for Formula 1 until 1961. Much of the race will taken in top gear & there will be plenty of opportunity for drafting.

This seasons tracks will be easy and well known to have a smaller time gap between the lights and heavies,
if there is a too big gap on a track, a stop and go for the lights in the 30min race will be recommended!

This is really designed to be a fun series with 3 different car mods
- running 1 sprint length race of ~15 min and a ~30 min race with the same car.
- ONE SHIFT-R with NO Stop n Go

Light drivers are restricted to not use the Chapparals
Heavy drivers will allways have a free car choice!

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP address = tbc
Race date = 24-10-2014
Variant = SC
Damage Model = intermediate
Track = Monza 10k

Qualifying 1 Time = 20 minutes, starting  20:45 UK time
Race 1 Time = race 1 starts at ~21:05 UK time
Race 1 length = 15 minutes (6 laps )

Qualifying 2 Time = 10 minutes, starting  ~21:25 UK time
Race 2 Time = race 2 starts at ~21:35 UK time
Race 2 length = 30 minutes (12 laps )

Password: see above
Replay = will be here

Drivers having missed race1 can join the server for the Quali of race2 in IGOR

Please restrict chat to only real necessary messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Races will be moderated for reported incidents only unless there is something VERY BAD happening!! so be nice to each other.  nono

Thanks Cookie - trying to make it tonight.

Incidentally I don't like this handicap.... the Lights are not allowed to drive the Chaps and the Heavy cannot drive the Chaps , if you see what I mean  Grin

How about all the Lights have to use Porsches....

The 910 is too slow for Monza 10K. Ford MK1 is also too slow here.
So, Lights should drive one of these two cars Smiley

Chap 2F, Ford MK2 and MK4 are just undriveable for me on this track.

Chap 2D seems OK, same for P4 and T70.
Not yet tried the Mirage.

Tonights IP  95.114.117.81 use the race PW!

Practice server is running! Try it!

The Chaps are the easiest cars here! My WR ChapF  Wink

The Lola and Mirage are very smooth to drive here...

The Ferrari is too slow  Sad

MK2 and MK4 are brutal beasts and for me hard to get flat @340kph through the 2nd banking Shocked

For me, the real light men have to drive a Ford Grin

Shame, the 910 is the only one that I 'like' driving.  Don't like the chaps - ok to look at,  but 3 gears is nonsense [I do like changing gear a lot] & Chap seem to blow up when trying to use 4th.

Other than that, was planning on taking the Ferrari.  If it's really that slow - maybe I'll try to use that as an excuse.... Wink
However, not many setups available by the look if it!

See you on  (off) track later...

Cheers,
Dave.

Had some nice racing with Dean in both races, but when I couldn't avoid the crashing car in the banking my screen froze and GPL crashed. Too bad, was fun dicing with Dean Smiley

It even crashes GPL when watching the replay!  Shocked

Don't know how I made it through (felt a thump and that's all). Fun stuff until then (and race 1 too).

Yeah me too.  There are some issues with this mod and track combo, but it's such tremendous fun!  I knew from practice that if you spin into the parabolica then GPL crashes, so I was extra careful braking into there in particular.  Had to build up an extremely stiff setup to get the big Fords to work on the banking, but the Mk4 was just a bit too wild and unstable.  The Mk2 in comparison is calm and smooth, and only a few mph down at the end of the straights, so I went with that.  Glad to stay in the lead as parts of the track are barely one car wide at 200 mph!

I love the extra 10mph the MK4 gives me Grin

For me the 4 was easier than the MK2, as this brick sat the whole banking on the ground even with the hardest wheelrates...

What races, even I messed both starts that made the extra fun to catch up Roll Eyes

This wonderfull passing at 24:40 shocked Dean (SORRY I Am Not Worthy ) but it has to be one of the all time highlights in GPL SC mod races!
I had 27kph + to Dean and had the gap to pass.... and it all went well Wink

Congratulations Mark, Axel, Tom, and Thomas!!!

That was some good racing once again. I really enjoyed getting to use the 330. It's one of my favorite cars in GPL and I don't get many opportunities to use it online. As long as I could stay in the slipstream, there seemed to be no way to get away from me. I'd guess the Ferrari would be able to follow another car well into the 2:19's.

I got lucky in the 1st heat when Tom hit the guard rail in the final turn. I put some real pressure on Tom but there was no way for my wimpy little 4.0L to pass those big block Fords. It was very tempting to try to out brake those Fords but I didn't think I could do it successfully. The second heat was going about the same as the 1st until I got greedy when Tom spun in the 2nd banking. I kept the throttle down to try to clear Tom before he slid down the banking but I should have lifted sooner. I was worried about losing Mark's slipstream when my 1st priority should have been slowing to try to clear Axel's car. My apologies Axel. After my ride over the banking's guard rail I should have reset but I didn't realize the engine was damaged until later. I reset a lap later. Axel caught me rather quickly and then started dragging me along with him. I was doing good until just before we caught Dean and Thom. Once I clipped the curb in the 2nd Lesmo any chance of gaining more positions was over.

Thanks guys. See you next week. Please Axel, no Shadow's for the Lights!

There are some known issues with Monza10K. My main one is that I keep crashing on the second section of banking. First race my PC rebooted whilst I was on the start line  Angry Didn't make much difference to my finishing position  Roll Eyes

Please Axel, no Shadow's for the Lights!

But the Shadow would be a real monster on the banking!
