Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Dave Rainier -starting from Pole- wins the race from start to finish, keeping his Championship hopes alive. Congratulations! Bernie Darwin finishes second setting the fastest lap of the race in his last lap. George Cheeseman finishes third coming from the rear, profiting from a last lap off by Championship leader Phil Thornton, who finished 4th. Francesco Molteni ran a solid race to 5th, and Michael Turner rounded out the top 6. Great job by all of these lead lap finishers. Billy was heading for the podium but had a lapse in Stavelot on Lap 10 and had to retire later that lap, but still is classified as 7th for points. Dave Curtis suffered from another technical gremlin and Paul and Fabio had also races to forget. Commiserations.

There was an incident after the start that has been reported by the moderator, and later on Lap 1 in Blanchimont the big one happened. Apart from these unfortunate events the race was rather clean.

Server replay time: 0h00m55s

Paul Whitfield and George Cheeseman come together in Eau Rouge after the start. George has to check up for Bernie with Dave Curtis passing him on the left, and never sees Paul in his mirrors. Paul has had a glimpse of George and relies on the fact George will notice him and give room. It is a legitimate overtaking attempt, Paul has enough overlap before the turn in to the right. George is unaware of Paul and turns in and both cars spin, and continue the race. Paul felt he was the victim but didn't ask for a penalty.

If George had been aware of Paul this incident could have been prevented, but he had other cars around him to deal with and Paul never appeared in his mirrors. As George said: just one of those GPL things.

Server replay time: 0h03m56s

The contact between Phil and Fabio was reported, but decided to moderate all that happened before as well.

Initially Dave Curtis spins out of the first left Blanchimont kink and goes up the sidewall. Unrelated, Michael Turner spins into the first left kink of Blanchimont. Francesco runs into Dave Curtis who sits on the outside racing line. Fran does see him too late and cannot slow enough or avoid Dave C. No yellow flags have been waved yet. Fabio Locarno sees Michael spin and tries to slow but runs wide due to that and puts his right rear tire on the grass. He is spinning to the inside of the track where Phil Thornton sees an opening and tries to clear the wrecks. Fabio clips Phil and both spin. Paul Whitfield does a great job and can avoid everyone with some luck. George Cheeseman almost clears the wrecks but a the spinning BT24 Fabio clips George's BRM. Paul might have gotten just a glimpse of the yellow flag waved (at 03m53s), and George must have seen the waved flag.

We must try to avoid to spin on Lap 1 when the field is still bunched up, and slow for wrecks ahead and waved yellow flags. But as the events took place after a fast blind corner, and the yellow flag was waved very late (most missed it), it all has to go down as racing incidents.

Server replay time: 0h04m59s

As a result of the carnage above, George has a damaged car, and spins into La Source. It looks like he wants to do a Shift-R but cars close by prevent him to do that. George then goes into the pits together with Fabio (who has to do a stop & go for reset), does a stop, and resets in the pits, and continues.

Technically this is Failing to take Stop & Go after Shift-R. But as George already lost time waiting for cars and did stop in the pits, the moderators have decided a Caution for Incorrect Pit Stop would be sufficient on this occasion.

Season 27 Privateers Trophy - Round 5 - Spa Francorchamps

The original triangular shaped course, which was designed in 1920 by Jules de Their and Henri Langlois Van Ophem, used public roads between the towns of Spa, Malmedy and Stavelot.  The course was extremly fast and was made even faster in 1939 with the introduction of the famous Eau Rouge section.  The circuit was completely revised and shortened for the 1981 Belgian Grand Prix but it is the faster 8.761 mile version of the track that we will use for this race.

The 8.761 mile version of the circuit was used between 1946 and 1970 and whilst corners like Eau Rouge, Burnenville and particularly Masta; presented the drivers with exceptional challenges the circuit was very dangerous and claimed the lives of many drivers.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL9
IP = 37.157.48.87
Race date = Sunday 26-10-2014
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Spa (Papy original)
Race length = 15 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Les Combes. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

DSL dropped out again.
Well, the start seemed ok. Then once I ran off & [presumably] subsequent offs/pile-ups in sympathy;   was in a nice gap by the time the resets had taken place.
Then it all went really quiet...

Good luck all.

Cheers,
Dave.

Can't always believe IGOR.  There were 6 or 7 finishers.

Bit gutted - PB in qually, got tagged in Eau Rouge and set off third last, had to be careful behind Phil, passed about ninety crashing cars on Lap 1, blew an engine, got passed in the pits, set off to chase Dave, caught him at Masta. Crashed lap 3 as my daughter distracted me and the engine gave up again. No engines blown in 40 laps of practice - three in qually and race.

I just can't buy any luck this season Sad

Brabby for me from now on.

Qualified last and so I tried to be careful on lap 1 and hoped to pick up a few places if there were any incidents.  Sure enough picked up 2 places at Eau Rouge and then there was another crash somewhere around Blanchimont.  I almost picked my way through the carnage but got tagged and spun around by the very last car.  But I was up to 4th and managed to get 3rd by passing Francesco.  Things were looking good until the very last lap at Malmédy when I ran out of concentration and spun.  George sailed past and I had to settle for 4th.  Grats to Dave and Bernie, very fast and very consistent.  Unlucky Bill, I was never going to catch you.

Blimey, I'm glad I didn't moan about my perceived misfortunes at the start of the race (to be fair, my mood was vastly improved by ending up on the podium in the end). You had a torrid time. Sad Chin up.

I was resigned to 4th and was slightly miffed at that, then you had your moment; until the very end, I didn't know it was the third place car I had passed. I just squeezed by though as I saw you late. I had another close call with a car which had blown its engine, again I saw it very late, there were no flags and I barely hang on as I jinked out from behind. Phew.

Incredible,a race without explosion of the engine the only explosion during the qualifications.
After the overtake of Phil i was in his trail when i have done my unique error at Blanchimont,error that cost me the 4th position.Cg7aa was faster than me but, without this error, i don't think that he would had the time to join me.
The next race is Road Atlanta(Full) ,what mean? Is Road Atlanta 71 of Gauss?

All rather disappointing.  I must have had pole for about 20 mins of qually until David popped in a very quick late lap.

Started reasonably well  but I have problem concentrating enough to keep the Eagle on the track for more than a few  consecutive laps. I brushed the hedge at Malmedy which let Bernie through. Bernie was flying in the Lotus & I pushed too hard chasing him. Lost the car in Stavelot, took a reset & span out again on the same lap.

Well done to David - a consistent drive to the flag. Bernie seems to have got his mojo back.

Will be back in the BT24 for the rest of the season.

Too many errors on L1 and a blown engine before the halfway point meant an all too familiar lonely race though there was some consolation in seeing a Soggie on the podium. Congrats to Bernie Smiley

All rather disappointing.  I must have had pole for about 20 mins of qually until David popped in a very quick late lap.

I'm disappointed ...with your final result !  Wink
I counted on you (and other Black Night teammates) to take some points to Phil Thornton, the leader of this serie !

I noticed something strange but maybe you already are aware : I did my best to take the pole in a correct but not exceptional at all 3min19sec90 but on Sunday morning I did some practices on EOLC server (on VROC).
This EOLC server was using 60FPS and I easily did my all times best in SPA : 3min17sec70 after only 3 training laps.

It seems, we run 2 or 3 seconds less a lap with 60FPS (on a track like SPA) .
Did anyone else already noticed that ?

About the race, nothing to say : I saw no car at all during the race as I was leading from start to finish.
I was just looking sometimes at Pribluda to see the gap with Bernie and Billy.
It was a little bit boring but I am happy to win and to take some points to Phil !
