Replays and results now posted

@Roger - Whilst following you in the 2nd race I noticed that your brake lights were on for a long time i.e. not just at corners.

Brands Hatch - TVR/Elan

Too bad Postal was sick (good recovery)...& Bill 2 with a CTD (race #2). I must admit, I & Bill 1 (?) Got a shock when you were parked in the middle of the track in a hard turn...luckily it went almost ok.  Cool

I was lucky in either race, but it was a tough switching from TVR for Elan, almost the same lap times...but very different cars  Cheesy
A little fun before the race I press this: Be 1st at T1...& so did Bill 1  Grin

Now we are talking about Bill...I spoke with Bill (Gates) & we built a new computer car to Bill 2  laugh

Thanks for a really fun day at Brands Hatch & Grats to you all.
Big thanks to our TEAM-GTLDK...damn, we're good  Cheesy

Pelle gave us a taste of things to come in quali for race 1 when he ran away with pole position.
For the opening laps of race 1 I was able to stay with Pelle while he was making a few small mistakes but as soon as he settled down he consistently pulled a few tenths per lap on me until the end. I was very pleased to get P2 though, I preferred the TVR over the Elan and enjoyed the laps  Smiley
Race 2 started in a similar manner (with the addition of a fright when finding Bill2's car stationary ... fortunately no contact though) but at around 3/4 race distance I got the chicane all wrong and went off track. This was just what Clive needed and he breezed past as I rejoined  Angry . This really spiced things up and I had great fun giving chase but couldn't find a way past so P3 it was  Smiley
All in all a great event ... roll on the next one  Grin

A great choice of cars and track. I found these 2 cars a real handful, mainly because they were so different, just as Pelle has already said.

The first race was great fun as I tried to keep my Elan in touch with 3 bellowing TVRs on front, but by half distance it was clear that Pelle and Bill G were way too fast for me. Erling was still in sight and laying some impressive rubber lines through the corners, so maybe he was struggling just a little? and if I could get closer I might be able to add to his problems. The he got thing a bit wrong at Paddock Hill and performed a long slow motion spin with immense amounts of blue smoke ( presumably to hide his embarrassment?), so I turned on the headlights and picked my way through the murk and stole 3rd spot.

The change in driving style between the nimble Elan in the 1st race and the brutal TVR in the second race really caught me out and it took all of qually and the first 4 laps of the race to begin to settle in. The unfortunate disco of Bill that left his car parked on the apex of the bend into Dingle Dell was a nasty shock but actually did me a favour as it allowed me to close the gap to the 2 fast guys ahead. So that when Bill G ran wide at the Esses a lap or two later I was close enough to take the chance and steal 2nd place. The rest of the race was a defensive drive, just trying to wrestle the TVR into the corners and use the power to out drag Bill's Elan down the straights. I tried to keep it fair...hope that I did, but it got a bit hairy at times.

Sorry to hear about Bill2's ongoing problems with his freezes/disco. It does sound an awful lot like AV updating/kicking in, but then I know zilch about computers. I use a small programme called "Enditall" before each race session that shuts down every other programme that is not needed. I can e-mail this if it helps?

A challenging series this, with the quick switch between such different cars.

Race1:
In preparation for our previous V8 race, I tried educating myself in the mysteries of car setup. Mostly left me none the wiser, and I didn't improve my laptimes over the default setup, but did notice a couple of things.  Tried some of the same on the TVR setup I have used throughout my GTL career, and suddenly my laptimes dropped, culminating in a 1:45.5 in offline praccy. Sadly it's been a one-off, unrepeatable lap - mostly due to getting most corners just right.

Qualified 3rd, and TVR power for once prevented me from being jumped by Clive as the start went.  Early on I was in contact with the front runners, but eventually they pulled away.  Behind, Clive was inching closer. Still confident I could keep him behind me, if I stuck to the racing line. With the TVR extending the gap as soon as you could get the power down, it would be very difficult for him to mount an attack.

Then it all went tits up.  Once again my #1 hated corner of all tracks; Paddock Hill, got the better of me.  Lost the rear, and almost - almost held it, but no; the bloody thing of course had to end on the grass, do a 180 and leave me facing the wrong way - and uphill.  By the time I had extricated myself from that, Clive was 10 secs ahead.  This held to the final lap, where Paddock Hill mugged me again - felt like a complete amateur..  Roll Eyes

Grats to the podium.

Race 2:
Early on in GTL, I became aware of the Elan's nasty habit of snap-oversteer under braking.  Have always avoided it if I could - mostly the TVR would be available too, and I always went with it instead.  Luckily I found a setup in my drawers, that has ironed out those tendencies.  Was thus able to abuse it quite heavily, without it biting back.

Qualified 4th, but was outdragged by Matt at the start.  Cars behind dropped back already on L1, so no immediate threat from there. Tried to hang on to the orange TVRs of Clive & Matt, hoping either - or preferably both would make a mistake  Wink   Had a true 'fresh-pants-needed' moment, when Matt's car froze in front of me.  Hit it at full bore, which lifted my car, with all 4 wheels off the ground. Surprisingly no damage - except for 10% engine health lost, when I downshifted too early in the confusion  Shocked

The jolt apparently got Matt going again too, and he shadowed me not too far back for most of the remaining race.  Clive had a few moments, which brought me closer, but then he got his act together and pulled away.  Thus had to settle for 4th once more.

Grats to the podium again - and especially Pelle for two very convincing drives.

Very sorry to see that Bill's problems are still ongoing  Sad  Maybe trying the program Clive suggests would be an idea.

Cheers,
Erling

Sorry for the scare Erling. I had a black screen moment, I think it was because i had left Firefox running on facespace, and someone posted.
I usually shut everything down.

My second (and third) races on SimRacing.org. Enjoyable again. For some reason I could not match the times I had achieved offline a few days earlier when I spent well over an hour practicing. My fastest laps were 2 – 3 seconds slower. I did not seem to have the confidence to attack the corners. (Just a bit of a bad day, I hope). Even so I still managed a few stupid errors. I don’t think it made much difference to my finishing position though, I would have just finished closer to the guy in front. I had some fun dicing with Eifelblitz in race 2. I was surprised by how fast he was on one section of the track. (The Dingle Dell to Sterling’s Bend section).  I think I might have put him off by being so slow there during our dice.

Grats to podiums and all and hard luck for those who had problems.

Now to start practicing for Bathurst.  Grin
