Hi Jeep, glad you enjoyed your first outing with us. Next time add at least one laps more fuel ok?  Wink

Not an expert on XD but I've never heard of anyone changing drivers names colour, sorry.

I do feel for you, Tony Shocked Having a CTD at the start is not the best way to begin the Christmas week. I did wonder if I was going to have problems myself. I lost connection during quali and at the startline I noticed I was 15th out of 14, with you nowhere to be seen.

Anyway, congrats to you Jose on your Championship win, and well done Coyote and Matt for your 2nd and 3rd places.

Well that's another season done and dusted. I'd like to thank everyone who took part in our races and wish all the community a very happy holiday and good fortune and health in the New Year.

And remember that the perfect antidote to too much Xmas excess are the GTL Christmas Specials, details below.

Best wishes

Tony

Once again an excellent event on one of the US's great old tracks. Had a great race with Ziu, both of us leading at some stages during the race. Had to accept defeat in the end, Ziu was just that merest fraction of a second quicker over a lap. Shame Ati went out early as he seemed to have equal pace in qually.  Embarrassed

Congrats to Jose, Erling & Matt on the championship podium.  clap clap clap

Many thanks to Tony for organising some wonderful races. I only competed in the later half of the year, but these races have now become unmissable.

Also for anyone interested in P&G, can I remind you of the final SROUK v NG v GC Inter-League race on December 29th.

Nearly didn’t make it as I felt a bit knackered after a party and then a late night over the weekend (can’t keep up with the pace these days). Just like my sim driving.

Once I got behind the wheel I perked up and had a steady race. One mistake going slightly wide let Bob past and another slightly untidy corner let Matt past. It didn’t matter much as they were both a good second a lap faster than me later in the race. I thought they were also about one mph faster on the long straight when we were up to speed. At least that’s what it looked like. I had increased my tyre pressures, selected the highest gear ratio, and lowered the car. Naturalised the toe in. I didn’t have the option to increase the rev limits. How do you get these cars to go faster? I think Matts body modifications may have helped, reducing the overall mass of his car and creating less air resistance.

I settled into my usual lonely spot with nobody to race. Pity Tony had a disco, I was looking for him in my mirrors until I noticed he wasn’t running.
Congrats to Champion and runners up and I would like to wish all and their families a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR clap clap clap clap

Not sure tyre pressures uncrease gearing in this? mine were at whatever gave as even a temp across the tyre as I could get
To me, I was coming onto the long straight slightly faster, and then got a tow when you were in front.

I was talking about when we were up to speed on the long straight at max revs and you were both in front of me and too far ahead for me to slipstream Matt. It looked like you were both still pulling a little further ahead. Very, very marginal. I realised you probably got a slightly better entry to the straight on a couple of laps. Maybe there is a trick to setting the car up I’m not aware of but most likely it’s my driving.  wheelchair Roll Eyes

Grats to the podium and Jose for winning the Championship - and to Matt for 3rd place  clap clap

Aside from the first few laps, the race was uneventful for me.  On L1, I poked my nose too far up the inside of the car ahead in a corner, and was squeezed into those concrete tyres.  Fortunately at relatively low speed, so no significant damage to the car.  Still spun and lost some places though.  Made them up again, mainly through others misfortune.  At one point I passed Matt, who was recovering from an off. Tried subsequently to break his tow down the runway, but it was too late and he sailed past.

Matt slowly inched away and eventually the gap to the car ahead stabilized at around 10 secs.  Had Jeep on a steady pace behind me, with the gap first growing to 5 secs, later 10 secs and eventually jumped to 20 secs late in the race, possibly when he ran out of fuel ?

Thus most of the race was a lonely affair, but at least I accomplished my main mission:  Keep the gap between Matt & me small enough to make sure he didn't nick 2nd place in the championship..  Smiley

Like Misnoimis, I'm also looking for setup clues. I obviously can't keep up with the aliens, but am still scratching my head over being almost 3 secs off the pace, on a relatively uncomplicated 1:3x sec lap.  Is there something very significant that needs to be changed from the default setups ?   I of course adapt the gearing to the track and I try to set tyre pressures to get even temps across the tyres, but what else is instrumental in making these cars go faster ? (Providing anyone is willing to share their secrets  Cool)

Liked the track btw; had a nice flow to it, especially through the string of S-bends.

Jeep: With regards to finding out if a car behind you is lapping, or in fact one to race, you can activate the driver tags to find out.  It shows not only driver name, but also his position, in parenthesis. So if you know your own position and a car is approaching from behind, you can a: activate driver tags (if not on already) b: look behind you. Driver tags and positions are shown also in rear view, so it should give you all the needed info.  I have both functions mapped to buttons on my wheel, making them easily accessible.

Thanks again to Tony for organising, and to all participants for making this a great and challenging series.

Merry Christmas to everyone !! balloon

Cheers,
Erling

First off congrats to Jose for his championship season and then Erling and Matt for 2nd and 3rd.  Second grats to my T- mate Ziu for his win at Riverside and a big sorry to my other mate, ATi for his bad luck.   Third thanks to Tony for organizing the series.
Good finish for me but after the first couple of laps was alone, with Jose far ahead and misnoimis in my mirror and then towards the end Matt was closing in because my tires were gone.  Held on for 5th and that's allright with me...
If you didn't get enough of the track, we will race it again in the Trans Am series next season.  Save one of the cars with a high top speed for this track, between the 5 their is a difference, kind of like the LM55 cars, some fast and then some faster.
Again so glad I joined in racing with you guys, really has been a pleasant experience!!!!!  Hope we can get more drivers next year!!!

For what it is worth Erling, and anyone else, I was finding chunks of time by getting my braking and turn in points right for the slowest corners.
My PB in the 6 or so laps I did prior to on line practice last night was around 1:35.

On one practice lap last night lap I suddenly gained 0.8 secs through just one corner, and it did not even feel fast..just smooth. Tried the same line next lap and found the same gain. Applied the same brake, turn in, accelerate technique on a couple of other corners and shaved about 2 secs off my PB.
I also looked to carry as much pace through the corners as possible. So that the run from the S/F line was pretty much flat in 4th all the way to T7? at the bottom of the hill, with just a fractional lift ( to get the front end to bite and turn in ) just before those concrete tyres. I know that Jose was faster than me through that section and was gaining 0.2-0.3 secs towards the end of the race when my tyres were trashed.

This is where the setup comes into play, but I have always maintained ( even over in GPL) that the setup has to suit the driver. It is very difficult to change your driving habits to make a particular setup work at its optimum. What you can do is to tweak the setup parameters to make the car conform more readily to what you want it do. Some sim drivers want the car to be really grippy on the front so that they can brake late and get a sharp turn in, others prefer a very docile car that can be eased into a corner and powered out without any dramatic oversteer. The wrong driver/setup combination just does not work IMHO.

Last night both available cars were on the rev limit before they were half way down the main straight , and were both ( IMHO) very similar on top speed. So I opted for the car that felt better through Turns 1-8 as this is where I felt that the time was to be gained.
I think that comparing speeds down that straight is misguided, because if you lost a second on the straight but your car was better suited to the Esses etc you would more than recover that loss. In fact when I tried both cars on similar setups there was only about 0.2 secs between them, but it was just easier in the Falcon.

I know very little bout setups in GTL , but I am learning slowly and now have enough knowledge to be dangerous to wildlife. Before changing a setup I ask myself what is the biggest thing stopping me from going quicker.

It might be that the car is unstable under heavy braking? snap oversteer mid corner or just massive understeer coming out of corners preventing you getting on the gas. Or simply that the car becomes unpredictable through the corners.
It is all about confidence in how your car will respond to any input from you and your wheel/pedals. If everything works as you expect, you will have confidence and will be at the sharp end of the grid because you are not losing time fighting the car at each corner.
I am reluctant to post suggestions about what to do to correct handling problems within the GTL cars, as I am only just discovering them myself and there are others around here who know far more than I do.

Where I did learn a lot was when I downloaded one of ATi's on line setups for a car, and then compared how that behaved compared to how my attempt a setup worked. I switched back and forth between the cars and I then adjusted my setup ( one parameter at a time) to try and learn what bit made things different...................very illuminating  Roll Eyes

Thanks very much for the insight Clive.

Have experienced on other tracks how important the right line can be for your laptimes, but guess I never really found it on yesterday's track.  Agree on setups too - have tried a couple of yours, but found them too nervous for my taste.  Likewise, I recently tried one of Ati's setups; believe it was for the Datsun 240, but found the rear way too loose for me to control.  Would probably be educational to try and analyse why it was so loose, like you did, so guess I have work to do..  Smiley

Cheers,
Erling
