Sorry to whoever was behind me on the startline. I forgot to select first gear so when we started I had loads of revs but no forward movement  oops

I knew that the Mazda wasn't going to be the fastest here but I wanted to save my fast cars for later in the series. It's also a little B*gg*r to setup up as at slow turns it has a tendency to want to face the direction you just arrived from.

So with the poor start and numerous spins it wasn't long before I was plumb last and by some distance. Still made it to the finish line and received some points so not to bad. And I only have to drive the Mazda one more time.

I was pleased to get 4th spot on the grid and got a good start when the lights turned green. I found myself in P2 and tried to keep Jose in view. His pace was relentlessly faster than mine and he pulled away but I was not allowed to relax since Erling was right on my tail. I managed to keep Erling at bay and later in the race he must have been caught up in a dice with someone because a bit of a gap opened up. Eventually the chequered flag appeared and I was mighty pleased to finish in P2. Congrats to Jose on a commanding drive and also to Erling for the podium place  Smiley

I was seduced by the Mazda when I tried these cars for the first time and spent far too long trying to make it understand that any steering input should be interpreted as an indication of direction. Not an order to perform a 360 degree spin!!!

After that, I did not have much free time left to try the others. The Datsun was undoubtedly quick and stable, but I did not have the time ( or the ability !!) to get down to the times that Snr Lobo was posting. The BMW was good and solid but, again I did not have the time to make it handle like I wanted.
Usually I find the Porkers, and especially the 911, very tail happy. But, when I drove this one at Atlanta it felt quite stable until it was pushed hard.....................then its true nature came to the surface!!

A few tweaks to the Roll bars and dampers and things improved. But what really got my vote was that it did not appear to use any rubber!!! 10 laps and no wear showing. OK lap times were around the low 1:24's on race fuel but that would get quicker.
The race went well apart from a couple of spins when the tail tried to get out of the corner first. It seemed that once the rear lost traction there was no way of allowing the tyres to regain their grip, and the car just went around in a long graceful slide??!! Undecided Undecided....or maybe it was my driving Roll Eyes Tyre wear at the end was minimal so maybe I should have pushed harder, but that might have invited more spins.

Grats to Lobo on a dominant win and to the podium finishers. Great to see more drivers on the grid and a good selection of cars.

Thoroughly enjoyed this race.  The track has gone straight to my favorites list. Love the elevation changes, the downhill zig zag and the fast curves  wub

After some initial indecision about which car to use, I settled for the Datsun.  Have done a 22.6 lap offline, but try as I might, I couldn't repeat it in qualifying.  Thus had to settle for a somewhat disappointing 5th on the grid. Got an ok start and managed to pass De Martini.  Clive shot ahead, but ended up on the outside of Bill's Beemer, so I could squeeze in front of him on the inside.  Slipped into 3rd when Marc ventured onto the grass.

Chased hard after Bill for the first half of the race.  Got close enough to pressure him a couple of times, but he quickly extended the gap in both cases.  Eventually he edged away.  Behind me, I had a 5-sec gap to Marc, but then I tossed it all away. Bungled up my downshift at the end of the long straight, and entered the curve in 4th, rather than 3rd. That was too fast and I ended up on the grass. Gap was now 2 secs, but further errors reduced it to nothing!   When I went wide again at T1 the following lap, Marc was past.

After some laps, it seemed he would slip away. However, I hunkered down, focused and got some fast laps in (well, fast for me.. Wink).  With that, I started to reel in Marc again.  Was shaping up to be quite a fight, but then he spun in the zig zag section, making it easy for me.  It was late in the race, so if I could keep myself from screwing up too badly, 3rd would be in the bag.  Some 6 secs up ahead was Bill, and I got some tantalizing glimpses of his orange Beemer in various spots on the track.  Started to get greedy - could I possibly get him too ?  Nope; some less than stellar laps brought me no closer Wink - and I then ran out of race to chase him in.

Very chuffed with 3rd though, considering the company. Grats to Jose and Bill on most convincing drives.  Great to see such a large grid, but sorry that so relatively many had problems.
I had my by now seemingly regular problem, of disappearing tyre mark textures.  All looks normal in off- and on-line practice, but come qualify and race, all bar the start- and end blotches disappear, except for maybe the odd one in between.  Anyone else have this ?  (I can illustrate it with a couple of screenshots, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, as the problem carries over to the replays too).

Cheers,
Erling

Rog ... this once happened to me when I forgot that GTL only allows a very short time to join the grid. I was assuming it was the same as P&G where you get 2 minutes and was messing about with the fuel level before joining the grid only to find that the race had started and I got DQ  Huh  All the more embarrassing as I was admin for the event  Roll Eyes

Hello Guys:
Good fun for me, bad results but fun anyway.  Grats to the podium watched you all blow by me two times!!!   Had cut problems with the track, had 4.  3 of them were going to the grass on exit of corners to avoid a spinner.  One was on me exiting the S's and got into the grass.  First penalty was quick and painless, second time I guess I was too close to the pit man and the clipboard wouldn't come up, took a couple of back and forthes to trigger it up.  Also had one accident, T-Boned a 240Z I think it was.  Coming down the S/F hill, popped over the hill and their he was crossways on the track.  No time to react, Sorry to whoever it was, must be tough cars as everything was OK and it was a good solid hit...As I said "good fun" and will be back next week.  Will drive the Austin as I have a good set up from a NoGrip race from a couple of months ago.  Hope the drivers that had problems can get it fixed...

Hi guys,

I am a disaster man, should it be my lobbyname (DisasterMan)

A quilify was perfect, my best time in this circuit.
And the starts of the race, perfect, 1st position, but The first corner I went to look for mushrooms  sweatdrop, why ?? I don't know, cold tyres...

After this mistake my position was 5, and I can overtake Clive in the straight because Datsun is more fast than 911.
After a few laps and Erling mistakes can overtake him.
At lap 30 in zig zag my big big mistke, I went down two gears by mistake and lost control of the car and Erling overtake me.

Great track, great car and enjoyable race.
Datsun is the most stable car that I use in GTL.

Thanks all and pod !!!

That was an enjoyable race guys. Due to some problems installing another monitor i did not had much time on setting up the 240Z and had to dial it in during qualy. Setup was ok but gearing turned out to be a bit off and to much rearbrake bias en diff settings made for a few scary moments during the race.
Off-line i seemed to have no problems, but when the lights went green it was stuttering en lagging during the first 4 laps or so. I nearly quit the race.

From then on it went better and i could concentrate on my battles with Oldgeezer, Eifelblitz and DeMartini which lasted almost the entire race! Great fun!
