I find driving these cars puts a smile on my face every time
.
Grats to Jose and Pelle who were just too fast for me to catch. Although I jumped Pelle at the start, I kinda knew that he had about 2 secs a lap in hand, over what I could get out of the D type, and he was sure to be pressing for a pass quite soon...and he did!
After that I was watching the gap to Jose and Pelle grow at about the same rate as the gap back to Bill G was growing behind me. So, as the race progressed I became more and more isolated
.
Maintaining concentration was my biggest challenge as I still struggle mightily with the brakes (and braking distances) in GTL. The setup I had nailed together for the D type required early braking and 4 wheel drifts, under power, to get it through the corners...that might not be the way to get the fastest laptime, but it sure makes for a fun lap
especially on the run down to the hairpin with all those sweeping curves
I had guessed at the fuel load for the race and although it appears I had a couple of laps spare, I backed right off the pace on the last lap and cruised in to sample the champagne on the bottom step of the podium.
That 300SLR looks a real stunning addition to the LM55 series, just wonder what the performance spec will be??? If it is historically accurate it might prove to be something like the current F1 Silver Arrows and totally dominant?
