Don’t worry, if we did touch it was because I lost control.  Wink

Great race yesterday.

Very good fun with my friend Ati. Thanks for waiting mate  Wink
Every lap was very intense. overtaking after overtaking.  Grin

I felt a bit long race, 50 minutes is too much for my aching back.

Special mention to Dana. It's her first time in GT Legends? Her pace was really good all the race. Great start into the league. I hope to see you in the next races.

Grats Bill Grewcock for the fastest lap. if you had not had that problem at the start certainly you would have fought for victory.

Grats Ati and my teammate Erling for another pod. Good job!

Thanks all for racing. Thanks Tony for choose this great track!  Wink

Cheers

Thanks for the results, José.

Not much to talk about. Missing about 5 seconds to the top.
There were no online setups for 70Daytona available so without any praccy very difficult.

Dropped to last during lap 2 - at least I could score a new pb - and left due to lack of motivation.

Overall a very bad performance by myself in this series  Sad

Well at least I don't have to drive that  censored Mazda again! Knew I would be slower than the majority but had to get rid of my last Mazda drive and this track was better than any for doing that. The car has an awful tendency to want to face the direction it has just come from if you go too slowly around turns  Huh Well it did for me anyway. Hence my falling down the order from a gleefull 6th to almost last. Kudos to Steve for the way he took the Mazda and strangled some extra MPH out of it.
I had been concerned that an almost oval circuit would not be popular but it seems that I was wrong. Good really as we re-visit this circuit for the final round and have Talladega next in the series.
Nice turnout again, thanks guys. Seeing so many more cars on the start grid makes all the effort worthwhile.

Grats to Jose and ATI who had their own fun out front. Also to Erling  and Bill who both took advantage of my brain fade at half distance!!

I managed to find about 30 mins to download the track ( which I knew from other sims) and try a few laps, just to get a feel for these IMSA  cars on the banking.

Chose the 914-6 simply because it appeared to have the highest top speed, when I glanced at the spec in the showroom and set about tweaking the setup ready for the race last night. Now, before you all tell me that the IMSA GTU 914-6 has the same top speed as all the other cars.........."yes it does!". But numpty here was looking at the Std 914-6, which has a top speed ( allegedly ) of 147mph and I built the setup on that car!!! I only discovered my mistake when I tried to join the server for the race.  " CAR NOT PRESENT ON SERVER" was the message.  Sad

So I selected the correct car  Roll Eyes and joined the chaos. I loaded the setup I had made, and the only thing I needed to change was the gear ratios as the car seemed OK!!!

All of quali was spent dialling in the car and me to the track and gradually creeping up the order. All of that was a waste of time as I totally screwed the start and swung around into the armco. Thanks to Bill for halving my embarrassment, by joining me!!  Wink

My progress through the field was remarkable by the fact that I only had to make about 2 overtakes!!! every time that I caught a group of cars they threw themselves into the green stuff!! Thanks guys  thumbup1
Before long I was up to 3rd place having snuck past Erling around the bottom of the banking. For a few laps the gap just gradually grew and I was feeling quite pleased with myself, sitting in 3rd spot ( Jose and ATI were way ahead by now)after such a cock up at the start.
Daytona only has 2 right hand corners, and for the first 10 laps they presented no problem at all. But somewhere around lap 10-12 I lost the ability to brake and turn right twice on each lap!! It was definitely NOT the car or damage, and it was not tyres ( BTW my tyres showed only about 2% degradation at the end of the race??? is that possible???).............it was me!!
For a whole sequence of laps I ran wide or half spun. My gap to Erling vanished and I watched him go past, and then I helped him escape, by continuing to make a mess of those same corners. Now it was Bill's turn to reel me in and make a pass whilst I cut the grass.
Postal was threatening to pass me as well before the flag, but from somewhere I dredged up the lost memory of how to turn right and held on.

I'm still not confident about this group of cars as they appear to have far more grip than I am used to, but looking at the fastest laps in the race i was potentially not so far off the pace........although I was off the track too often.

Thanks for the fun Tony

This was a truly entertaining race  yes

Settled for the 914 in offline testing, as it was the quickest for me (but they were all close).

Clive just pipped my time late in qual, relegating me to 4th.  Most courteously, he then stuffed the start completely  Wink  As both Jose and Ati also seemed a bit wobbly, the miracle happened, and I wound up in front.  Alas, lasted only to T1..  From hero to zero in one easy click; as I downshifted, I lost the rear and spun off..  censored  Rejoined in 12th, but quickly made up some places, when cars in front fell off.

Got past Bob in more regular fashion, by some slipstreaming, putting me in 6th behind Steve. When he fell off in the righthand hairpin, I was 5th - for about 2 secs!  In a bout of misplaced sympathy, I went off in much the same fashion, handing it to Clive, whom I had in tow.  Did the exact same error next lap, letting Postal past (apparently I suffered a mild case of the same brainmelt as Clive..)  Managed to catch and pass Postal again at the start of the following lap, putting me back in 6th. Later same lap, I passed Dana after she had a moment.  Next up was Roger, and I was now in 4th, chasing Clive. Passed him when he fell off as he mentioned, and then had him as my shadow for the next many laps.  Gap seesawed a little, depending on how well he got through the righthanders..  Grin

With about 1/3 of the race left, it seemed Clive suddenly got a second wind, as the gap started dropping.  With a podium almost within my grasp, I of course started getting nervous and making mistakes. As the finish was nearing, I had nasty deja-vu's of Clive slipstreaming and beating me on the very finish line in the 50's Sprints.  Fortunately I didn't have to see a repeat of that yesterday  sweatdrop  Only after the finish did I realise that it was in fact Bill closing on me and not Clive - they were in very similar looking cars, and I couldn't tell the difference in my mirror.  Quite a stellar drive Bill - I was lucky the race ended when it did!  Smiley

Grats to Jose and Ati - Jose, I tried your Datsun setup from the last race.  Very nice and will definitely go back to it next time I use that car, so thanks for sharing it!

Thanks to Tony for arranging - and very nice to see such a large grid  yes

Cheers,
Erling

As usual good fun and track choice from Tony.  The first 10- 12 laps it seemed I just drove the track and dodged the cars who were spinning in the right handers of the infield.  Then Hayman appeared in my mirror about L12 and I went into defense mode.  We were both in BMW's,  he always outbraked me going into the curves and for some reason mine was quicker getting out of the corner and on the oval.  We finally touched in a corner and I went just wide enough so he went by and didn't know it at the time but Dana was there also in the 911.  So the three of us spent about 10-12 laps running together and none of us can pass or pull away.  Got to try some drafting with Dana, could pull up on her and we seemed to be faster than Hayman but always ran out of oval before we could get by.  I also tried several times to pull up on her and then pop out and try to pass her that way, but the BMW must be as aerodynamic as a brick because I would get even with her and the 911 would pull back ahead.  Didn't try the old NASCAR bump drafting like you can do with the muscle cars for fear of wrecking us.  No way to treat a lady either.  The lady can drive though, knows how to take a corner and stays cool under pressure. Hope she decides to drive the LM55 cars and V8's,  won't be suprised if she gets a podium soon.

Good fun as always here at SROUK!!!!

Hi Bob

yeah, that was hard work..............to get you.
In the oval you were much faster, I even could not get your slipstream. So only chance was in T1 or T2. Damn I gave you that hit, but I let you go in front again. Later I could pass you and had you and Dana in the back. On the last 100m she got me....grats!
I looked the replay, watched Ati/Senorlobo fight. There I noticed, that Senorlobo was also faster than Ati in the oval. I wonder why? Tire pressure maybe?

Good fun as always here

I was also surprised. Maybe Ati forget put the maximum rpm in the setup.
