Moderator's Report

From the many comments on the forum after this race it would seem that we basically had 2 versions of the same track in use, and each version offers different advantages and problems. I think that IF Tullin is run again at sometime we may have to insist that all drivers use the same option and penalise anyone seen driving through solid objects , like we do with the pit wall at Kyalami.
Having watched some of the replays and incidents, I can see how many of the problems arose. If the car you are following drives straight through a haybale and yet you cannot, frustration and confusion levels are bound to be raised. It also affects the braking point for the car in front if he has to be sure to go around the haybale that you can drive straight through!!!!
In hindsight I am surprised that there were not a load more major incidents!!!

Server replay time: 0h00m08s

Greg gets it all wrong under braking and despite some attempt at avoiding Arf, he simply wipes him into the bales.

Blatant Rear End Shunt: Penalty 2 Places

Server replay time: 0h03m15s

Arf is a sitting duck as Doni arrives at the scene and makes inevitable contact. Arf recovers and tries to get under way around the inside of the corner, regrettably Doni also has intentions of rejoining the race as quickly as possible and sends his car on the most direct line through the same apex.
Whilst Doni should maybe have been aware that Arf might be there he does not see him until a second contact is made.

I am calling this a Racing Incident as neither driver did anything horrendously wrong. Arf was stranded and Doni simply had nowhere to go in the initial contact and the contact as they recovered was very unfortunate.

Greg (and Doni). I didn't post out of anger, just commented on my race. I don't regard either of you as unfair racers, quite the opposite, so I'm sure it was a genuine mistake (Greg, Doni I'll review in light of your comments and see what I think, when I get a chance). I may still choose to submit a report for either of course....

As with your own comments, I was more disappointed with my own performance than anyone else's. I'm getting so little track time at the moment, it is difficult to be consistent (OK, more difficult than normal...). I am away with work so much atm (USA three times in last 7 weeks, and weekly visits to Netherlands in between...) that I am not getting the time to fix my G25 gear stick, which means that I am using the paddle shifters for the first time (not a fan of it, never mind it is so not 1960's...). At least Sundays race is a track I don't have to learn!

Well done to Dave R for the win. Nice to see a different winner!

I also saw several racers going through the haybales.
That was not the case for me, and also not the case for Dean.
So final result is better in this way.

With the updated version, I think we can go faster for 0,5 sec in this part of the track. I don't know if there are other changes between the 2 versions.

Yes, I had several troubles to overtake some backmarkers when they were not giving space at the braking point and stayed at the apex of the turn. That was the case with you, Bernie, and I spun 2 times trying to overtake you.
I was following Dean when it happened but then I loose contact.
It seems Dean also had troubles with backmarkers ...and maybe an accident forced him to do a SnG.
But he did a great performance with the Cooper.

I made several training with different cars, Cooper was too slow for me, Protos quick but unpredictable ...McLaren was just perfect !

David I have watched my replay and can see @ 21:30 where you spin out ( sorry but can't see how my driving caused your spin ?  ) I kept to the right ( off the racing line ) and took a tight line through the corner , not sure what else I could have done there to prevent your spin , my apologies if there was some other incident elsewhere , not an easy track for us backmarkers , seemed like blue flags being waved at every corner . I find  it is very difficult when 2/3 or more cars are approaching into a corner to decide what best way to react , sometimes find it best to just carry on at normal speed then lift off slightly along the next straight , but that isnt always possible when you have a series of corners with little or no straight in between .

Didn't feel too well and decided to take the BT14 just to get some pts. Didn't like the track as well and expected a lot of wrecking. This came true. For me this race was a nightmare, starting at T1...highlights were pulling off an "Alonso" on Jethro once and a risky pass outside Fran, lapping him. An attempt earlier on Fran I wrecked myself and Ray couldn't avoid me, sorry. Especially here the BT14 was ridiculously slow, stop & go track. At a fluent track you can compensate better with it keeping momentum...

With the lack of attrition had to settle for P9.

It's great to see David win, but also felt for Dean who lead for a long time. Also well done Tommie, and finishers Smiley

I also think the old version is a little faster. I tried the new version but was having dreadfull frame rates so put the original light 3do over the top. So I had the worst case scenario of the bumps AND the haybales, although I was able to drive through them Cheesy . The light 3do fixed my framerates so decided to stick with it anyway despite knowing my trk and 3do would probably not match up, resulting in me driving through things, or worse, hitting invisible things. Thankfully I didn't hit any unvisible things but was able to drive through things Grin . I found out later the old version is a bit faster, but I suspected it all through the race, so decided not to go crazy and push too hard in an effort to make up for the time lost driving the track update. Besides, I think the bumps are pretty cool and make the whole deal a bit more realistic Smiley .

I'm quite proud of my Häkkinen pass on Marco involving a backmarker going into the last turn at about lap 7 or 8 Grin . Unfortunately I then spun the following lap trying to break the tow so all was for naught.

The old track was probably about 0.75 faster than the new one.. Undecided, although I could give more data when I try the old one for rank. I can only imagine this is a moderator's nightmare. But the less said about my driving, the better  Embarrassed. Really, this revision should have been released as a new track for the F2 rank. Hindsight is a wonderful thing Lips Sealed!

PS. Grats to everyone that did well amongst the crisis!  Cool

Last week noticed the thread was gone. Not sure what happened, I made a post in the mods forum but not sure if the thread can be retrieved or so...

Ok, then, right here will have to do. Where to start? Oh, hey, how about Lap 1? Yeah, that'll do...

Lap 1: Got myself semi-backwards and just about stopped in Duts Dutzeed Dutzendkvjhsreg the 2nd last corner, causing many to take avoiding actions. Thankfully nothing too serious developed, and thanks Cookie for giving me a tap to get me headed back in the right direction.

Lap 7: Sorry to Rog for clumsy in hairpin.

Lap 9: Sorry to Rog for clumsy in corner after hairpin.

Then I fell back in the field and decided to bother amuse Bernie for a while, and so:

Laps 11 and 27: Sorry Bernie for clumsies in hairpin.

And there were dozens of other moments in the race where I wasn't as smooth or predictable (major keys to avoiding contact in online races) as I prefer to be. Anyone whom I may have interfered with at those points, my apologies to you, too.

Retirement happened shortly after. Should have gotten more practice for this one (as, going in, I still had an extremely unlikely outside shot at the title).

So Monaco next? Oh piffling joy...  Tongue
