Season 27 Friday Trophy - Rounds 39 & 40 -Crystal Palace - SC

Welcome to the last Sports Car round for the Friday Trophy.

Crystal Palace circuit is a former motor racing circuit in Crystal Palace, London, England. The circuit was located within Crystal Palace park. The route of the track is still largely extant today but the roads are now mainly used for access to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre located in the park, and to events within the upper parts of Crystal Palace Park. Some parts of the track are closed off and part is used for an annual Sprint Meeting, on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
In 1953 he circuit had been reduced in length to 1.39 miles (2.2 km), bypassing the loop past the lake, and pressure from the local residents led to an injunction which reduced motor sport events in the park to only five days per year. A variety of races took place, including sports cars, Formula Three, the London Trophy for Formula Two, and even non-championship Formula One races.
Average speeds continued to rise over the years, with the first 100 mph (161 km/h) lap average set in 1970 by that year's Formula One world champion, Jochen Rindt. Also in 1970, the injunction limiting race days expired and racing was increased to 14 days a year. However, driver safety was coming into focus in the early seventies and it became clear that racing around a park at 100 mph (161 km/h) was not safe. Expensive improvements were undertaken, but it was not enough to save the circuit. The last International meeting was in May 1972, the final lap record going to Mike Hailwood at an average speed of 103.39 mph (166.39 km/h).

This seasons tracks will be easy and well known to have a smaller time gap between the lights and heavies,
if there is a too big gap on a track, a stop and go for the lights in the 30min race will be recommended!

This is really designed to be a fun series with 3 different car mods
- running 1 sprint length race of ~15 min and a ~30 min race with the same car.
- ONE SHIFT-R with NO Stop n Go

Light drivers are restricted to not use a Ferrari , Lola, ChapF or Porsche
Heavy drivers will allways have a free car choice!

Special thanks goes to Cookie for hosting and for sharing a set-up some of the time. I adapted the Lola Nurb set-up for Crystal Palace. The first ten laps (estimate) were quite exciting with me chasing Dave C. and Dean L.. I pushed too hard in the Alley, and high centered on a curb causing a spin. I instantly realized that the Porsche would have been a safer choice. I had a few more half spins in the race. I probably was trail braking too much. I began to feel very comfortable in the Lola. I caught up with Dave C on the last lap. He might have slowed down to make the race more interesting. Ha ha. Thanks everyone for the fun race.

Well, found this more interesting than last week.  Also good to hear whatever happened with me warping for race2 last time out;   was no repeat (that I know of) tonight.

He might have slowed down to make the race more interesting. Ha ha. Thanks everyone for the fun race.

I was going flat out & you breezed past!   Thought about trying to keep my foot in round the wiggly bit,  but it may have ended up with some unwanted contact.

Was happy enough to have not been lapped in race1 & getting laptime in 54.x.   Which apparently [according to GPLRank] is currently above M.Mercaldo &  S.Bird for the Porsche!
Of course, that is over just one lap...  see,  you probably can make stats say nearly anything you want Smiley

I find this place is harder than the Moon!
From a natural-heavy perspective,  would probably be interesting here with a (similar) full grid/swarm of F2/65...

I know it's not over until next week,  but it's practically over/decided now & I probably wont get in the way with the CanAms;  just to say thanks for the season/series.
Personally, didn't find it as engaging as the 1st Fri series,   but thanks for the runnings - Friday evenings definitely need something fun race-wise.

Cheers,
Dave.

Sorry, I wanted to keep a tight line on the inside of the corner, but I carried a little too much speed. It would have been better if I had left you room in Ramp Bend.

Congrats Mark, Axel, Dave! Nice job guys. It looks like Mark will be champion! Congrats again! I'm not quite good enough yet to give you a significant challenge. Well done on the season Axel, both driving and managing!

It looks like I needed more practice. That was fun but it would have been nice to get some good consistency. I'm happy as long I get enough practice to keep from wrecking anybody. I pleased I didn't hit anybody but Dean. I thought I could get lucky and slip by when he and another car had spun.

It's good to see Walter back!

It's been a fun season. I gained some good experience. Thanks guys. See you next week for the grande finale!
