Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Phil Thornton wins the race in a Brabham with a patient, measured and consistent drive, congratulations! David Rainier, who started from Pole in the Honda finishes second, after losing the lead on Lap 8 after a long two wide with Phil. David lost contact with Phil trying to avoid him. Dave Curtis completes the podium in a Brabham. Bastian Grupp finishes 4th being the last of lead lap finishers, as Billy had to retire on the penultimate lap. Billy still is awarded 5th place and the last finisher was Bernie Darwin. Well done all.

Phil has already clinched the Privateers Championship, with two races to go. Many congratulations! The fight for honorable places will be exciting, as of now Bernie and David are in the best positions.

The Red Zone was clean, good job all. One incident -between Bastian and Fran- has been reported by the moderator. No irregularities detected concerning resets.

Server replay time: 0h07m42s

Bastian and Francesco make contact in Tamburello. Both drivers need to reset.

Bastian claims it was his corner and Fran didn't leave enough room. Francesco didn't expect Bastian to overtake him there and questions Bastian's choice to try to pass him there. Fran just took his usual racing line there.

Bastian has a good run out of Rivazza, and has more momentum out of the kink after S/F. As Bastian was slightly faster and behind Francesco for a few laps, he saw an opportunity to pass Fran at Tamburello. The overlap is borderline at turn in, and Fran isn't aware of Bastian; Fran just takes his normal racing line. Bastian moves slightly up and Fran steers to the left, both cars make contact and need to reset to continue. Both drivers could have prevented this incident, making it a Contested Side by Side contact: Racing Incident, with Advice for both.

Bastian - Advice: Tamburello is a late apex corner, and it would be very hard to make it two wide through it or to make a pass stick. You would have run wide probably with your line, or lost momentum. Try to plan a move carefully rather than to jump it. In hindsight it might have been better to stay behind Fran and try to out accelerate him towards Tosa.

Francesco - Advice: be aware of cars around you. Bastian appears shortly in your mirror as he is trying to get a run. If you would have been aware, and let Bastian go, you might have been able to pass Bastian back towards Tosa as Bastian probably would have run wide or lost momentum.

Season 27 Privateers Trophy - Round 8 - Imola

The track was inaugurated in 1953, and it had no chicanes, so the run from Rivazza all the way to Tosa, through the pits and the eventually notorious Tamburello was totally flat out, as was the run from Acque Minerali all the way to Rivazza was just a long straight with a few small bends; and the circuit remained in this configuration until 1972. Long time home of the San Marino Grand Prix (and once of the Italian Grand Prix) the circuit is fast, bumpy and dangerous.

After the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna in 1994, the track was remodelled to reduce speeds but we use the original, high speed layout.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL9
IP = 37.157.48.87
Race date = Sunday 07-12-2014
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Add-on Imola
Race length = 32 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of the Acque Minerali. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Apologies for the server crash chaps, all I got from the logs is that GPL hung at 21:56, no particular reason why.

Apologies for the server crash chaps, all I got from the logs is that GPL hung at 21:56, no particular reason why.
There was a mass screen freeze with 6 mins of qually to go and everyone was locked out of the server.  I managed to connect via VNC and killed GPL.  IGOR was still in listening mode so I restarted the server with 10 mins of qually.  The second race was fine.

Never seen that before.  Don't know if it was anything to do with the track but as far as I know Imola is an OK.  Very odd.

Pleased to win that one after seeing David's very quick pole time.  My plan was to try to stay as close to David as I could and hope the Honda's tyres would overheat later in the race and give me a chance to challenge for the lead.  The plan worked quite well for 8 laps and then Dave got a bit too much wheel spin out of Tosa and I was through.  After that I managed to put enough consistent laps in to stay ahead.  Both David and Bastian put in quicker laps but I think it was my consistency that helped me on the day.

Thanks for the race and a great season gents.  Subject to moderation, it looks like I've got an unassailable lead in the championship with 2 rounds to go.  There is still plenty to race for so hopefully we'll get a good turn out for the last 2 rounds.

Very short race for me.From the start Bagrup follow me and at the first curve after the start he place the car side by side but a little behind,so not seen.
Not being the first lap he knew that i start the curve large and then i go to the curb,so the incident was predictable.
After the S&G the usual engine blust stop my race.Is fate,in this serie i can't go over half race.

Very short race for me too.  A power glitch hit my PC just after the start. I have a UPS but since it is hidden under my table, I never noticed the "battery's dead, buddy"  light. If it can be a reminder for someone in the group ....
Thanks for fixing the server. I am glad the race went OK later on.

First, thanks to Phil for restarting the server.

Almost had P2 on Q1 but then we decided to go all modern & have 10 minutes Q2. I kept P3 on teh restart, but Rainier was on a mission & set a very quick pole time in the only Honda in the field.

Second time around I had the blue Brabham - which has generally been unlucky for me. Rainier & Phil were very quick away but I briefly inherited P2 when the Honda span off. This lasted half a lap when my engine went sick. After the reset + SnG I was 4th - about half a mile behind Dave C & half a mile in front of Bastian. As the laps ticked by the gaps reduced - especially my lead on Bastian. I did have enough gap at the start of the last lap. We were closing on Bernie who went off at Tamborello. I though he was in the long grass but his car made a sudden appearance across the track & BANG.
I do like this track & quite happy with the evenings work (OK it was more of a night shift).

One suggestion for next season. Apart from Rainier it was all BT24's on the grid. I'd like to mix this up. Some of the faster drivers could perhaps have limitations on chassis but a better option would be to hand out a few more tokens. An Eagle or a Lotus in anyone's hands would have probably changed th quallifying positions.

Yes thanks to Phil for restarting the server.

And grats to Phil for his win and  for the championship !

I made 2 mistakes during the race, I spun a first time when Phil overtook me and again 2 or 3 laps later.
But then, I could not reduce the gap with Phil who really deserves the win of the race and the championship !

It is sad to see all these Brabham's together, and totally unrealistic.  F2's are much more interesting and entertaining to see, with all their different entrants.

Agree with Billy that the clone syndrome has become rampant. Cheesy  Except allowing more tokens, would kill the slower cars completely.  Tokens are supposed to help create a realistic spread of machinery, so raise the Brabs. to 12 tokens next Season, or whatever works and umm, err, Privateers.

Congratulations Phil on the well deserved Championship

Took you long enough though I did try my best to extend the results , all to no avail  oops

Sorry to anyone else I might have upset (Billy  ? ) , not sure why but my race setup was like dancing on ice once the tyres had warmed up making the car barely drivable , should have quit early on but thought I could continue OK without causing to many problems , then Phil came along to lap me while I was trying to get back on track after one of many gyrations  Huh

Must go down as the catastrophy avoidance of the century , boy was I relieved to see you could continue  Shocked

Had a look on the replay (lap 16).  Yes it was close, the Tamburello is very fast I only just missed you even with steering lock to lock.  I'm not sure I could manage that again LOL

just watched the replay. we were on same height, i already stepped back several time before francesco, altough i came out faster out of the corner.
that time  you should at least leave me some space imo.

Bad Luck Billi in the last lap !
