Season 27 Friday Trophy - Rounds 41 & 42 -Crystal Palace - CanAm

Welcome to the last round for the Friday Trophy.

Crystal Palace circuit is a former motor racing circuit in Crystal Palace, London, England. The circuit was located within Crystal Palace park. The route of the track is still largely extant today but the roads are now mainly used for access to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre located in the park, and to events within the upper parts of Crystal Palace Park. Some parts of the track are closed off and part is used for an annual Sprint Meeting, on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
In 1953 he circuit had been reduced in length to 1.39 miles (2.2 km), bypassing the loop past the lake, and pressure from the local residents led to an injunction which reduced motor sport events in the park to only five days per year. A variety of races took place, including sports cars, Formula Three, the London Trophy for Formula Two, and even non-championship Formula One races.
Average speeds continued to rise over the years, with the first 100 mph (161 km/h) lap average set in 1970 by that year's Formula One world champion, Jochen Rindt. Also in 1970, the injunction limiting race days expired and racing was increased to 14 days a year. However, driver safety was coming into focus in the early seventies and it became clear that racing around a park at 100 mph (161 km/h) was not safe. Expensive improvements were undertaken, but it was not enough to save the circuit. The last International meeting was in May 1972, the final lap record going to Mike Hailwood at an average speed of 103.39 mph (166.39 km/h).

This seasons tracks will be easy and well known to have a smaller time gap between the lights and heavies,
if there is a too big gap on a track, a stop and go for the lights in the 30min race will be recommended!

This is really designed to be a fun series with 3 different car mods
- running 1 sprint length race of ~15 min and a ~30 min race with the same car.
- ONE SHIFT-R with NO Stop n Go

Light drivers are restricted to not use any of the big 4 (M8F, T260, M8D or Shadows)
Heavy drivers will allways have a free car choice!

Our Crystal Palace outright lap record is listed as 103.4 mph in an F1 from 1969.  Mike Hailwood's actual record was 103.3 mph, which would've been from F2's in 1972.  There's progress for you!  This is shortly to be shattered by a big block, shipped especially from USA. Shocked

Wahooo!!!  w00t   w00t   Shocked

A good couple of races to finish the season on, ended up both times running behind Axel but just cannot pass round this track - well done to him.  Man, it's been a looong campaign.  Grats to fellow champ podium guys Axel and Greg.

Big thanks to Axel for organising the races, big thanks to everyone who took part.

Congrats Axel! That was a good steady round to finish out the season. Congrats to you too Mark! You're a well deserving champion. It would take a lot of practicing for me to have much chance of denying you the title.

Overmotivated? lol I overmotorvated into two T1 disasters. I practiced a few opening laps and that still didn't seem to help. I'm still clueless about where I'm supposed to lift and brake on the opening lap. My apologies Mark for heat 2. I was so embarrassed and disgusted with myself after hitting you that I almost quit the race. I didn't move until you were well under way. Then I figured I'm far enough back that I won't cause any more problems. Too bad it took me a couple more turns to realize, I had trashed the Ferrari's front suspension. I needed a reset. Did you Mark? Your car was on fire as it drove away after I nailed you. I felt like such an idiot. If there was an award for biggest dumbass, I'm surely a contender if not the winner.

Thanks guys. It was a fun season. I still need a lot of work on my consistency though. Nice job organizing the series Axel! I appreciate it.

With Axel moving to 60fps, will there be a Friday series next season? I'll miss you Axel. My machine handles 36fps without much trouble but it struggles terribly with some mod and track combinations.

I hope there is another Friday series. I've gained a lot of experience in cars I'd rarely drive if I drove at all. I never drove the M8B, 69x BRM, MS84, 69x Lotus 49 before the Friday series. The number of laps I had driven 2D, Mirage, GT40, and  69x 312 was so few, that they're basically new cars to me too. Another season or two of experience I might start giving Mark a real challenge. I might be a little faster than Axel but I still need a lot of improvement to surpass him in the championship.

Take care. I hope I'll see you all on another track soon.

Yeah I realised my steering was deranged so I had to reset.  Crystal's first turn is extra tricky as it's a left into a right and it feels like there's oil down on the left hand side or something.  Couldn't see you in my mirror so I didn't know what had happened until later  Cool
