Heh you can keep your fancy but soul less Tilke tracks, you can't beat a great British club circuit for great racing  thumbup1

Enjoyed that tonight despite as usual throwing away my hard earned upper grid slot  Tongue

Hadnt turned a lap until tonight's event, did a quick 15 minute praccy using my Barber setup then disappeared until qually. Got as high as 4th until final minute when Geoffers re lept ahead.

Got a decent start for once and just about held my place under attack from Simon and Dan. But with race fuel and cold mediums it was really lairy and when Dan attacked me up the hill I ran a little wide and the car went sliding off  :'( back of the pack for me! Doh!
To my surprise Clive was back there in his Alfa and the pair of us steamed upto the pack and picked off several over the next few laps whilst having our own good battle. Smiley
Once we got space I was giving Clive lots of pressure, attacking where I could, and I also had to back out of quite a few of the heavy braking zones to avoid contact, only to watch him speed off down the following straight!  it was great fun and lasted up to lap 15 but then Clive seemed to find some extra pace and I just couldn't keep with him, or my own pace dropped off. Then I had an oversteer moment at craners and lost 4 secs or so  Sad
The car got more of a handful as the tyres showed wear and it was armfuls of lock towards the end, but kept it on the black stuff and even blagged 5th  Cool at the end with Simons car running out of fuel.

Great race and congrats to the podium. Half decent turn out too  thumbup1

After Wed evening's sluggish practice session I was not looking forward to this race. In qually I gave the Escort a whizz but decided that I did not have time to master the 4 speed gearbox and handling. So I reverted to the Porker for the race.

There was a moment of revelation when I realised that I was running hard tyres, when I thought I had selected the softs, about 50% through qualifying. A stop and tyre change shaved 2 secs off my lap times even on race fuel and put me in the low 1:20's.
I then did what I rarely do and tried a qually run with reduced fuel ( I usually keep the tank full ) and suddenly I was sub 1:20 and alongside Federico on the front row  scared scared I honestly did not want to start the race there, as I know my starts are poor and faster cars would be all over me at T1. So, grateful thanks to those who made the effort to get ahead of me and pushed me back a couple of rows  Wink......where I still fluffed the start!!!

A longish stint in Qually had convinced me that the softs would actually go the distance, although the last few laps might be a little dodgy, so I needed to protect them if i could. Simon however had other ideas and was all over my tailpipes forcing me to push hard.
FR, Frex and Geoffers were easing away ahead whilst Simon and myself traded blows lap after lap( great racing  Grin )
After a while we came across Frex recovering from the gravel at Mclanes and a 3 way battle now looked likely. Well it did, until I dropped 2 gears, instead of one, at the very next corner and toasted Simon's bonnet with a sheet of flame and molten pistons!! His fault! he should not have been that close  Roll Eyes!!

Race over. But quite chuffed to have found some pace lately that gets me into the action.

Grats to Federico Geoffers and Frex, plus all the finishers and to Simon for some entertaining laps whilst it lasted

Indeed, a great track for some great battles. Didn't quite got the pre-race practice i needed due to some PC troubles. First off tried the 911 which i really liked last time out with the use of a setup from MJ, however i didn't felt the love around here (maybe i just needed a little more then the 4 laps to get us to gel..) So hopped into the SA as it looked to be a contender. Tried to dial it in but i was not getting the power down exiting the turns. That needs some closer inspection as Federico displayed it can be really fast.

No more time to mess around with the other cars so i just put a qually lap in. Start went OK tried to keep it on the track while the tires warmed up. Now the lack of grip from exiting corners was hurting me. Dan was on my case in his Escort and it was shaping up to be a race long battle with him being slightly faster but the power of the SA was helping me big time. By lap 10 our baby girl was crying and as the wife was out i had to park it in pit lane hoping to finish the race a few laps down. Spent half an hour getting the little girl to bed again, so that was it.
Looking forward to the next one though!

Congrats to the podium and Dan for putting up with my Alfa in his path!

Kids always come first under any circumstance Postal, but certainly a shame she intended her dad to notice her at that particular moment. We were seriously having fun.

Thanks everyone for another entertaining race. I was rather happy with my start and how things went for the first 5 corners but then came the hill and a massive slide accelerating out of the corner (adrenalin).Happiness is often a short state of being. Ah well, with nobody behind racing becomes quite a relaxed thing to do.

Looking forward to next Thursday, Dan

Better get him signed up to the Legends team quick Postal, before Clive nabs him for the Soggies!  Grin

Good result at Donington for me & the Kerbies (well done Frex), but a fairly quiet race. Couldn't keep up with Fed & Frex early on but was gradually pulling away from the 4th place battle. Only cars I saw after that were Frex in the gravel at McLeans & Dan who I lapped a bit later on. Only mild panic was when I noticed the engine health was at 35% around the 20 lap mark  Shocked. Took it a little easy after that just to make sure I made the finish!

Congrats to Fed & Frex  clap clap

Mostly lonely race for me with Federico pulling away and Geoff dropping back. Didn't feel quite as comfortable in the race as during practice for some reason, and found it difficult to put in consistent and clean laps. Around half distance I got a bit out of shape on corner entry and put a wheel on the grass - couldn't get turned in and ended up beached in the gravel. Tall first gear meant I couldn't easily get out of it and lost a lot of time there. Did the same again a few laps later and lost another place.

Lively end to the race with failing rear grip and Simon up ahead - got close a couple of times but wary of pushing too hard with no rear tyres left and with Clive not too far behind. Resigned to P4 but then Simon ran out of fuel approaching final chicane. Unlucky.

Congrats Federico and Geoff.

Hello everyone Grin,
during the tests I wanted to run with the porke Huh but in the end the good I recommend Alfa Pop, Pop, thanks I Am Not Worthy.
Good qualifying I managed to improve my lap times Cheesy.

During the race I preucupato the first lap and hold off Frex angel had a good race pace.
Eventually I came in first place just because missing johnw and Clive Embarrassed who had problems pedals I think (the stop were lit in the straight).

Congratulations to all and thanks.

Hello to the next Grin.

Oh yes thanks for the reminder Fed, meant to tell Clive his brake lights were constantly flashing down the straights. Thought he was brake testing me at first  Wink you may need to add some deadzone to your brake pedal Clive if a re calibration doesn't fix it.

Thanks Fed and MJ.

There is a massive dead band already.  ;-(  I'm cheesed off with the manky pots but good ones are about £25 each or more!

 Angry Angry Angry Angry
Couldn't buy a lap in qually for some reason but when the race got underway I had reasonable pace and had a fantastic dust up with EvilC, Evil's donkey cried enough which left me behind Frex who pulled away and then went gardening at the old hairpin. I was third and on the last lap, what could go wrong, podium here I come, then I ran out of fuel Sad

I put 25 laps in to be on the safe side, not safe enough obviously.

Sadly I'll not be out next week which is a shame because I like the big BMWs
