Dana, please don't worry about being less than perfect around us guys, if you had seen my first few PnG race last year you would know what I mean  Undecided.
You would not believe how badly wrong some of us can be in the heat of battle  Roll Eyes. We know that drivers do not deliberately throw themselves into the armco ( well I have my doubts about one or two individuals, but I'm saying nothing!). Just join in and have some fun.  Grin

Still don't believe how fast those 427's are being driven, I obviously need to get some instruction from somewhere!!!    Huh Grats to Federico, John and Clive.

Simon's tardy exit from the grid was an opportunity to gain a place, only to be passed by some lunatic in a Fezza...must have been a hairdresser on speed I think.  Roll Eyes I was hoping that the Daytona would have more grunt than the 275 when we unleashed the horses and sure enough I just breezed past up the back straight.
With cold tyres, I was not keen to examine the limits of adhesion too early, but when Simon eased past Jester and started closing on me I had to up my pace a little and I paid the price by running wide and bouncing along the grass.....rats!!!!
The rest of the race was great fun trying to regain that place.
I think there was something in the setup ( or maybe the car #??) that made the difference. Because there were certainly areas where I could take 0.5 secs out of any lead that Simon had, but on the straights even with slipstream Simon could ease away again, which was extremely frustrating!!!!
Mid race I held back to save some rubber for the last lap banzai move, and to allow me to see the apexes clearly and not bounce over the inner kerbs!!
With 4 laps to go I put the hammer down and got back onto Simon's bootlid. Managed to keep the gap small enough to close under braking for Sciere, hoping to stay close enough to pounce at Six Freres on the last lap.
A perfect plan...badly executed!! I ran wide and span 180 deg at Sciere. Simon was long gone before I recovered.
So for the last lap I thought why not go for a PB and threw caution to the wind along with any sense of control. 2 spins later and I could see Jester in my mirrors, but about 3 secs back, so I cruised it carefully to the flag.

A great race with Simon and I'm still in awe of those 427 times at the front.
What setup did you use Simon? was it Stig's offering?

It was good to see Erik having an outing last night and even better to see Simon in my mirrors.  Grin The icing on the cake was to see that Evil was giving him a hard time, thus stopping him from getting near me!  (Team Orders)

I made a fair start and gained a place when Geoffers did the decent thing and threw his Daytona at the grass bank.  With the tyres still cold, I had a Ferrari sniffing about coming out of Sanson but stayed right and offered him the grass and once I had taken the 427 down the straight once then Ferraris were not going to be a threat unless I made a big error.

When Erik binned it I was on my tod in third with the Simon/EvilC duo about six seconds behind me.  Perfect for Rouen in the 427 as the beast was always trying to get out from underneath me and I just didn't want anyone complicating things!  Great respect for what John was able to do with the beast.  thumbup1

At about mid-race the tyres seemed to reach a stage that I liked and I was able to pull a slightly bigger gap over Simon, which was a great comfort.

Congratulations to Federico and John.  Also Well done to the massed ranks of Soggies who filled 2nd to 6th.

Something tells me that my lead in this series could not have much longer to run.

One of the Daytonas has no rear wing, and is more slidey, but has a bit more top end speed.

I think that is #10.  I tried it at Spa and couldn't keep it shiny side up for more than half a lap!

I managed to keep ahead of
Frex in his Elan, but couldn't make any impression on Swifty in the Ferri

Just after you got past me for the second time I had a bad lap with 2 silly spins and lost half a minute. Without that we could maybe have seen more of eachother during the race. The early laps were fun, shame it got a bit lonely after that.

Congrats podium.

Oh, I'll certainly put in more online practice and stick around next time! Yesterday's race was a car I kinda hate on a dull track so once my setup and driving weren't clicking online, I knew there was no joy to be had. I'll be back and better prepared next week, though!

Hello everyone,
Tough qualifying I could not improve my time, but I managed to get pole angel.

The start to the race and 'was good but slow for the first few laps on cold tires was nightmarish Huh.
Why John always managed to recover despite the speed of daytona.
After 10 laps mistake on the curve immediately after arrival and I spun and John goes, I can not hit the barriers and resume the race.
I can take it back and start a great battle of overtaking and controsorpassi (sorry John but to curb the Daytona looked like a boat Embarrassed).
Eventually John comets an error and can not escape Shocked.

Good race despite the short workout Smiley.

Congratulations to John to stay smpre near and far thanks to dubbed choirs.

See you next week, work permitting Angry !!

Home grown for Spa with a bit of tweaking to fit Rouen.

Over 14 years racing an FF2000 has left me hard wired in a way that tends not to suit PnG to be honest, that's why I end up having to grow my own setups. I'll never be very quick in PnG as a result.

I often find that the grip level in practice is so low as to be completely useless.  I spent most of the practice time off-line, chasing a 2:10 TT lap from John, and only joined the server with about twenty minutes practice remaining.  This doesn't help to build the PnG community as the practice time is the only chance to indulge in a bit of banter but I felt that these cars needed special attention, just to keep them on the grey bit!

Just curious:
If Rouen, which is some peoples' fave track is "dull" what tracks would be interesting?.
I like to know these things so I can plan future events.

I think the "best" tracks in terms of racing, to some extents, depends on the number of cars/spread of ability on the grid and the length of the lap. 5 cars at Le Mans or the Nordschiefe would be very lonely and boring, but 20 cars around Mallory Park is bound to be eventful.

Sometimes it is the very tracks that look to have a "simple" layout that seem to generate some great racing.

I can't comment about PnG races/tracks as I don't have enough experience, but in GPL there are tracks like Goodwood, Silverstone 67, Zolder that create great racing. IMHO it is those tracks that are just long enough to spread the field out, but where they have more than 2 obvious passing opportunities.
A place where the following car can get some slipstream and where braking points and/or carrying speed through corners is important.

I like Zandvoort 67 but there is only a single passing place into Tarzan, unless the car ahead makes a big mistake. In that regard it is on a par with Monaco. You can be a second a lap faster around both of those tracks but if the car in front is defensive you will not get past. So is it exciting to tailgate a car for 20 laps hoping for a chance to pass, or is it better to have multiple passes and swapping of positions all through the grid?

Just my thoughts.

I think Rouen could be satisfying while fighting for position but, other than the leadup to the hairpin, it's a series of long straight>turn>long straight combinations that don't add up to a satisfying rhythm for me. That same overall feel is why Road America is my least favorite of the popular american tracks. On the other hand, I like the old Sebring, Daytona, and Silverstone layouts that are similarly laid out except that they string together some good sets of turns and tend to carry more speed through their self-contained corners.

For the overpowered gripless GTs used in these rounds, I think Kyalami and Spa were good choices that I wish I could have run. Otherwise, I think Riverside, old Road Atlanta, Mid Ohio, Oulton, and the tracks EvilClive mentioned are satisfying for anything with more power than grip.

Well in the 427, I thought that Rouen was far from boring.  The last thing that I wanted was a close battle with another car, as I was having that with the track already!  I can't think of a corner that wasn't a potential site to bin it.

Even the straights were an event!

I concur about the rythm of a track, and I also agree with track length helping depending on the number of cars.
This particular series is "sort of" following the 1967 F1 series as far as the tracks go. So I'm not picking them by what I
feel about them, it's just a historical thing, and the tracks are preset.
We will be doing all (I think) of the tracks that were in GPL rather than the actual '67 f1 season which used Le Mans Buggatti
I believe rather than Rouen.
Personally Rouen has aways been a favourite of mine from GPL days, as are most of them.
I never really gelled with Monza, though it was at one time the most popular for open GPL races.

The other series have some sort of a theme as well. The BHC is all UK tracks, from different eras
with a mix of cars. The "World Series" is a sort of US based series for V8s that will also run at some
Aussie and NZ circuits. the LCC is there just to annoy people like Clive (non evil one)  Roll Eyes
and uses two car sets, often just two cars, as in "Limited car Choice", and has a simple handicap system
to try to make the top 3 drivers work harder for a win. There are lots of other options that could be used
but I have only limited time for the testing, so have to keep things relatively simple.
