Moderator's Report

No incidents in the red zone other than Jethro who was overwhelmed by the marvellous scenery of this great new version of the Spa track. No reported incidents either.

I made a mess of things trying to overtake Andreas. Ended up ripping a wheel off. Shame it ended that way, but there's plenty more races left in the season  Smiley. Congrats to all finishers.

So is the Works server replay cap lost, Axel?  The link posted above takes us to the Privateers race.

Grats to Robert, Iestyn and Tom and to Doni who stuck in there for a safe finish.

I was concerned about this race because I knew that my rig would struggle with the graphics load @60fps, so I opted for the rarely used ( in my case) Cooper and a solid setup. the plan was to avoid qualifying too far up the grid and sit back until the dust cleared and the frame rate got back to a sensible rate.
On the grid the frame rate was sub 28fps and even that dipped at the start!! it did not get to 40 fps until we had almost completed lap1 and there was only Tom's BRM visible ahead. I made a pass on him with my eyes closed and got into some clear air, and the rate went up to just under 50fps on the straights and dipped in the tighter corners. But it was quite OK for driving at a steady pace.

I was going quite well and a reasonable finish looked possible when the frame rate suddenly dipped through Malmedy and I lost my line completely. A heavy impact into the straw bales did nothing for the handling and from then on Right handers were a real problem and I had to just coax the car to turn without spinning.
Tom and Doni caught and passed me and I tried to stay out of their way and make it to 50% distance. I managed to get there and then a moments lack of concentration on a right hand bend and it was all over as I made a mess of someone's front garden  Roll Eyes

The programme for a new computer might have to be brought forward!!!

Put in a banker in my first timed lap, and it was good enough for Pole...later was on a better lap, but had traffic and aborted the lap...

Race started great, Greg matched me on Lap 1, and Iestyn also stayed close. After Iestyn passed Greg on Lap 2, he was about 2-3s behind. I tried to push as much within safety margins trying to prevent Iestyn gaining (too much). Came close to hitting the deadly armco in Les Combes twice and exit Masta kink was hairy a few times hanging out the rear or going slightly wide...sadly Greg had a screenfreeze after 5 laps, he was still pretty close to Iestyn and ran a great race up to that point.

Iestyn and I exchanged fast laps, he seemed to have slightly more ultimate pace but I was more consistent. After 10 laps was about 5s in front, and knew I had it in the bag normally. Iestyn hit the forementioned armco in Les Combes and from then on decided to take care of the tires and engine and not to go for a fast lap. Last lap almost threw it away being too cautious and going wide at La Carriere, the place you can't drop a wheel off the track at the exit...

Pretty happy with my drive and win, but sad to see few finishers. Some couldn't even start the race, had FPS probs or screenfreezes, or incidents...commiserations to all suffering...

It's a tough track, with little margin for errors, but very rewarding as well. Great job Iestyn being able to finish with such a damaged car, no easy feat. Also well done to Thomas for his podium in the green whale! Very respectable laptime by Doni in the BRM, saw him blowing up in the last lap after I finished...

PS: on Lap 10, I noticed something I had to do sometimes to save a car out of a spin, in NR2003 ovalracing. Iestyn went very sideways in the fast curvy part towards Les Combes. Instead of countersteering, he went full lock in the direction of the spin, that way the front will go the right way again, as the front tires lose all rolling grip (it's like locking up the fronts). When you know you can't countersteer out of a halfspin, this is the ultimate save...great piece of driving there Iestyn!  Cool

With all the traps on this track in mind I settled for turtle tactics. It work above and byond and thought I could cruise last laps to a 3 rd Shocked. then Doni came from behind in lunacerspeed, and I panicdrove the last laps and just about made it .
Gz to Robert and Lestyn with superspiffy driving on a demanding track.

I had issues trying to join, unfamiliar with the direct approach it took me a couple of tries to 'get it', but then I got a bandwidth error.  After flitting between further attempts and discussing with Paul I chanced my arm at changing the core.ini mdm settings, changed the final number from 132 to 384 and lo and behold!  Still, I was worried I'd have different settings to everyone else and warp my a$$ all owwa the track...but happily this wasne the case.

By the time I joined there was only 2 mins left so I did a recky lap with a relatively safe diff setting in the Honda.  Starting dead last I drove cautiously for at least a lap, maintaining last position behind the numerous BRMs.  I then passed Phil a lap later but a spin by Doni had me off in avoidance.  Rejoined with Donald in close attendance and slowly pulled a bit of a gap, but we were both a good 20 secs back of Tom's BRM.  A bit later I got a swapper on in Eau Rouge and got stuck in a very sticky bale, curtains.

I rarely drive the honda and had trouble in the long corners getting the front to stick, after only a couple of laps the front left was red and I had to lift in that long right (Burneville?).  I put the pressures down in anticipation but obv wasn't enough, 85/30 diff didn't aid this either.  I need to put more effort into setup.

Thanks for hosting the race despite the issues.

Bob.

Made it 800 yards then binned it up near Les Combes in the trees. This is gonna be a good season...

If you were unable to join the server tonight apologies, there may have been some settings overlooked in the configuration (like the bandwidth). iGOR's racelist going down did not help the preparation!

Can I get confirmation that if we have this same problem again, that the settings stated in the iGor documentation are the ones that I should use (for all UKGPL servers)? Because GEM overrides these settings (I think), I didn't bother with the Core.ini settings when I reinstalled a few months back....

Hello sir! If I may reply...

If this happens in future (the iGOR racelist going AWOL) I am considering posting the bandwidth settings configured on the server before starting the race in the race thread. This should hopefully give some information and avoid this happening again. The only reason this came about is because iGOR takes care of the bandwidth settings each time you host, and when joining races via iGOR it automatically sets your client settings to that of the server.

This is also the first time I have hosted directly via the IP address, so it was a steep-ish learning curve for me in quite a short space of time. I spent the best part of 2 hours trying to get VROC working as an alternative (it being designed for 67s should have been compatible), and gave up when Cookie suggested just joining via the IP address.

It was unfortunate timing and circumstances that shot the pre-race preparation myself and Cookie had conducted! We are both better informed, and hopefully this won't happen again.

Speaking of VROC, I will be doing some testing with it as a backup for UKGPL9. I haven't used it in anger as a client or server since 2008/9, as all the UKGPL racing has been hosted via iGOR.

Somewhat annoyed to have missed this - But as I was doing a trackday at Cadwell Park I can't say I'm going to complain too much!

Nice you noticed Rob Smiley It's been verified to work in some situations in real life, I can remember the same effect happening in front wheel drive cars at least.

Sounds like a great experience Tim Cool!

PS. I still can't believe that Cookie is in privs and Phil RFB'ing in works!

True, no finishes is a bit remarkable, but I also thought that was at least partly due to your eyes struggling with 36 fps? Sad

Yes, this had for shure a part in the desaster...

I regard myself first of all as a GT driver as this is my favourite mod!

Yes, I can do some pretty fast laps, especially on tracks I like...
But tbh I am at my physical limit racing 67s, with these cars I have the least racing experience.
I need to fully understand a car to set it up lasting a whole race and feeling comfortable.

My aim is to learn more about 67s by using a Honda for the whole Priv season Wink
