S28 - Friday Mixed Trophy - Round 2 - CanAM 71- Hockenheim 67

The next round of the S28 Friday Mixed Trophy finds us back at Hockenheim.
Using the 1967 layout the track has some long fast straights through the forest and a tricky, twisty stadium section.

If you have not yet installed the track: install "hockenheim.zip" and add Thomas Laechele's high or lowres version!

This first race is free of handicaps,
but remember: for the LIGHT drivers the most popular car will be dropped for the rest of the season!

ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps.
If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded if you cannot s+g before the finish line in the pit lane.

Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score.
Please check the Season 28 pages for details regarding rules and the Friday Trophy pages in particular.

Race List =  IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = look at IGOR
Race date = 13-03-2015

Hey hey, here I am giving the 1971 Can-Am mod another go, can't help the addiction.

Damn it, CTD...

CTD...

CTD...

CTD...

Okay cured from the '71 Can-Am's again Cheesy.

Did find out how to combat the unnatural feeling on the straights; set the damper bound and rebound setting extremely high (12/14 here) to stop the body from hopping about Smiley .

Can't believe what a missed opportunity the CA71's are, seeing as I love these American V8's... Sad Ah well more motivation to do it right with the 1966's Smiley .

Mini rant over.

BTW could not get the hockenheim.zip files to work, even after copying over the HOCKENHM.DAT to the track folder, and even after installing Thomas Laechele's files. I run the track from an older backup and it has a much bigger DAT file for some reason. Ran out of time to make it work but ah well.

Tommie.

My Hockenheim .dat is 31.3 MB, dated 5/18/2003 (haven't got the Laechele update), and I've only had CTD's when running over the grass outside the last two corners. Were yours in the same place?

Well not really, it's when I spin in the motodrom section, at the hairpin or the chicane. It's due to a poly overload, I tried running with a low detail level LOD to see if it was poly overload and it was as the CTD's went away, but there's a track cam that also gives CTD's, probably same problem. All problems have workarounds but not worth my time Smiley .

Drat, I was looking forward to racing today, but I will be in charge of the BBQ for my mother -n- law's Birthday. It looks like I will have to wait for the F2 race to make my Friday Trophy debut.

Ginetto's uploaded file post #63 will fix the CTD's occurring when entering the stadium section.
http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=4540&st=60&hl=hockenheim#entry96292

And here's a camera file I made that fixed my CTD's when viewing replays.
http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=9450&hl=hockenheim

Sorry, I didn't post this prior to last week.

Congrats Iestyn and Axel! Very fun race!

That was a close one. Iestyn's too fast for me to be making errors in my setup. I noticed around lap 8 or 9 that I had way too much fuel. I did my fuel calculations on a piece of paper in practice and didn't read the number correctly. I saw a 2 as a 3 when I was multipying. What a dummy! 45 gallons of fuel to start, allowed Iestyn to cut .5-1.0 seconds from my lead while I was giving it close to 100%. Iestyn still gave me a chance when he got the tail too far out in the Ostkurve. I tried to get the front to turn in more so I could slip by on the inside but I couldn't quite make it. I recovered quickly but Iestyn recovered as well as I did. It didn't take him long to get by me again. I went a little wide in the Ostkurve on the final lap and that was the end of any chance to eek out a lucky win. So Iestyn was a lucky winner today. Good job! You kept the pressure on me the entire race. I made one lap at a good consistent pace but with Iestyn behind me, I drove every other lap about as fast as I could.

Last week I struggled with the Ostkurve. This week turn one gave me difficulties for the first several laps. I'm a little disappointed I didn't break 1:41.5 without a tow today. The Lola will do it.

Lots of fun doing my Jackie Stewart impersonation. It's been a while. I've been thinking I'm Graham Hill when I drive the 65 BRM so Jackie's been getting neglected since I haven't been driving the T260 or MS80 in a long time.

So who do I get to be next week? Jackie Ickx, Hubert Hahne, or Jochen Rindt? I'm kind of leaning towards Hahne. Keep the theme going of driving a white car. I might have to try that. A German track, with a German engine, in a car in one of Germany's racing colors, impersonated a German driver. That seems like a good way to finish this series at Hockenheim.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the fun.

Thank you Greg, now i want to understannd if with the new camera is possible to view a replay.

It should. I tested it with most of the mods and I couldn't get GPL to crash.

Well done Iestyn!

I wished Mark would have raced too.

Due to some really great changes in my life, I can't really compete every Saturday any more.  I'll pop in every now and then, probably just with the (great) GT cars.

From the replay analyser, i have seen  that my car loses during the acceleration.
To achieve the max speed emply much more time compared to all others,so in the second straight don't achieve the max speed while the others yes.All the difference in time is collected on the 2 main straight. There is an explanation about the gear set up?

I was informed that I may have to miss the F2 race also. I'll be out of town with the family.  :'(

Make sure you're using all 5 gears. Don't forget you were driving the car with the worst power-to-weight ratio. It's the worst by far and the 5 speed just can't make up for the high weight and lower power.
