Moderator's Report

SUMMARY
Dean Logan drove very consistent laps, and brought home the victory in the Matra MS80. Tim Muttram (FullMetalGasket) had an impressive drive from eighth to second place in his BRM P126/139. Piero was in second for most of the race. He fell back to 4th place. Then he made a nice come back. Piero finished third in a damaged Brabham BT26a (DFV) and he set the fastest lap.

Server replay time: 0h24m22s

Lap 19 - Ronniepeterson sees Piero Mercaldo on prib. Ronnie slows down at the end of the front straight to allow Piero to get past. Piero has the draft, but he still has a lower top speed than Ronnie (even with Ronnie letting off early for turn 1). Piero overtakes Ronnie in the braking zone. Unfortunately for Piero, Ronnie stopped looking in his mirrors and turned into turn 1 apex. The unintentional contact with Piero's left rear tire causes Piero to go off track and lose two positions.

On a straight, the overtaking car moves out to overtake, maintains his line and has achieved 100% overlap but the overtaken driver moves across into him. There was no loss of control. Penalty for overtaken driver.

Server replay time: 0h24m31s

Lap 19 - Piero Mercaldo rejoins the track in front of Bob Whitwell (Baab) and contact was made. Piero drives back on the track but should have at least stayed at the left instead of the middle. At the last moment you can see him trying to steer away but it's too late.

The rejoining driver drove straight back onto the track, but not the racing line, without checking for other cars and contact was made.

  • Piero Mercaldopenalty — Blatant bad rejoin: Penalty 2 places — 2 places lost

Yes, that was good fun, Ray.  I was amazed at how fast you could row along with the 'billboard' McLaren.  Apologies for that major shunt.  Thought for sure I was good for a clean pass.

No problem. I just thought you were being helpful and giving my gasping engine a helping hand!

Piero you have my apologies. I said in my report that the unintended tangle had probably cost you the race win.

Obviously the contact was planned by me and blatant as the moderators say and I fully intended to take you out as I did not want you to get on the podium let alone win the race. How ironic that you managed to drive superbly to still finish on the podium only to find yourself penalised for a bad rejoin and demoted off the podium. Please moderation team, reconsider this penalty for Piero. After all it was my fault that he had to rejoin and I would be saving you the trouble of finding yet another excuse to hand out more penalty points in my direction. I'm sure that the promotion of a fellow moderator onto the podium is just a conincidence  laugh laugh laugh
