Moderator's Report

Mostly a clean Red Zone but not for two unlucky souls.... otherwise two incidents that on another day drivers might have got away with it.

Server replay time: 0h01m24s

ArfArfArf stays wide to keep out of trouble but manages to tangle with the Armco which bounces him into the path of the luckless Andreas.

Ronnie takes a very unusual line to avoid the incident. Well done to all the others who avoided getting tangled up.

Advice to drivers - the black stuff is less slippy than the green...

Server replay time: 0h02m34s

Tom is following Tris closely into CG. Magic braking gets the Frenchman a bit sideways and Tom is surprised by the quicker drop in pace. There is a tiny touch but at this point of the track it is always going to be catastrophic.

Tom does make efforts to avoid Tristan but he knows he should have been a bit more careful.

The rules have this for a Blatant Rear End. "The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever. The shunter was in full control."

First bit fits but Tom did try to avoid the collision and I will therefore reduce the penalty to a Simple Rear End.

Server replay time: 0h21m38s

Fran tries a pass on Clive down the home straight. Both drivers maintain a steady line - unfortunately that is towards each other. Clive's wheel does move, but only when the cars touch.

The track edges are not parallel here and Clive sets his line from the left edge and Fran uses the right.

Clive has no time to react. This has to be a racing incident but Fran could have left more room and should have done so for self-protection.

Incidents of this type happen frequently here.

Season 28 Historics Trophy - Round 1 - Monza

Welcome to the season opener for the Historic cars. The 66 chassis is well suited to the Autodromo Nazionale, Monza.

The race track is located near the city of Monza, north of Milan, in Italy. The circuit's biggest event is the Formula One Italian Grand Prix, which has been hosted there since the sport's inception.

The 1966 race saw the race won by Italian driver Ludovico Scarfiotti driving a Ferrari 312 in his only Grand Prix victory. Scarfiotti led home his British team mate Mike Parkes by five seconds. Parkes only just defeated New Zealand racer Denny Hulme in his Brabham BT20, the pair separated by less than half a second.

This race is for 3 LITRE cars. There is no handicapping

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated from the start to the exit of the second Lesmo on Lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Sorry to whoever got hit by me as I bounced off the fence and back onto track. A mixture of staying wide in case someone was inside me, and a grabby brake put me into the fence at T3....

I'm very sorry Tristan! I have no idea what happened Sad . Obviously I braked too late to avoid hitting you! This sucks. I was just surprised at your braking point. I almost avoided you but just hit your gearbox Sad . I just braked at my normal braking point and was surprised to see your car get so much bigger all of a sudden!

What I do most of the time is lift off a bit before I brake when we are all bunched together, to give the people behind me a warning I'm about to brake. Like I said, I just braked at my normal braking point but was surprised to see you brake sooner Sad . I would have braked sooner too but I had Axel and Dean right behind me too.

Very sorry Tristan! I'll make it up to you next time Smiley .

Grats to Ray ending his "losing streak" winning in Ronnie Peterson style!  Cool Well done to Axel and Iestyn as well for such a close podium! Commiserations to the retirements...

The grid was surprisingly not as filled as the registrations would suggest. I will try to attend some 2L races if I can and when there are slots...

PS: who is this new driver Elvin?  Tongue

EvilClive I think? Early on he was hit after Lesmo 2, it was like the Red Sea parted right in front of me! laugh
I was lucky to get through that one, unless I'm thinking of someone else being hit in that situation.. maybe Basti? Hard to recall which was which!

Great race.. my start with a pribluda mini-freeze made me think of this Aleksi Elomaa start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DkkRJ1ZSL0. Thankfully, Walter could avoid my spin. I then had space to the field, to avoid the inevitable cold tyre pile-ups as I caught back up. Managed to weave my way up to the second pack, with Clive re-passing me before we could pass Fran! Grin

Two blips in my race.. first I was in two minds and slid into Tommie; I was too slow to move after Ascari, inadvertently putting him onto the grass, before going too deep on the inside.. I should have yielded and re-passed like on the previous lap, but was thinking of how best we could catch Axel & Dean (looking at Tommie's Q time, maybe we could have tandem drafted). At least he could continue and battle with Doni Smiley.

I was quite forceful at times when re-passing Ray in the middle part of the race, as I saw that we could catch up to Axel/Dean with me in front doing high 32s/low 33s while they battled. One move, which was a re-pass straight into Lesmo 1, would be very hard to top, not sure I've done many passes as good as that! But it worked out in the end, as Dean tried to up the pace with Axel to stay ahead; sadly Dean ended up in the Grande barrier, ending his race Sad.

Ray went off at Parabolica, like Clive, but my second blip was rear-ending Axel out of Parabolica near the end. That was a shame, as it was looking like we could have a dead heat finish, but then Ray came back into contention, and the last lap was suddenly a UKGPL66 version of the 5th Aussie Championship race at Monza, with Stewart, McLean and Wintrip battling in the Lotus! Which lap were we 3 wide into Grande?! Shocked

Also, a 3 wide finish Cool

This race was a good start for my season. Something strange happened with my FPS in this race though. On each of my out laps in practice, and on my first lap in the race, I only had 30 FPS until after the 2nd Lesmo Corner. Then the FPS returned to 60 in a blink of an eye each time, and everything worked great. *I remember having a similar experience in the qualify session of our 66' F1 Fun Race at Suzuka. Since this is the second time for me to experience it with the 66 mod, I might try some experiments to see if it continues...

I played the role of the tortoise for this race. Although I did enjoy following in Doni's slip stream for a few laps. He helped me set my fast lap, and things were looking positive until I spun in the Curve Grande. After that, I tried to improve my lap times on my own, but struggled to get into the 1:35's. I may have made changes to my car in Qually that slowed me down. Near the end of the race, I just had to decide how to let the leaders past as I could not quite stay on the lead lap. I had fun. It was nice to race again since it has been a busy week.

Another big Monza slipstream battle...  thumbup2

When Tris and Tom had their CG incident in L2, I had a save distance to avoid contact and got the lead.
22 great laps with Dean, until he tried to pass me inside CG where our crashboxes collided and destroyed his car,
this made me loose the gap to Iestyn and Ray.

After Ray went off at Parabolica we did fast laps and could have been save to the finish,
but Iestyns Para blip brought Ray back into the game for the last lap...

OK Tom,.... but don't forget that your normal break point is not the same in qualif whith empty tank and hot tires and alone on track ....than the full grid whith full tank and cold tires in a champoinship race...and specialy the slip stream who change your bracking point Shocked...... I break at the right point if I count cold tires + full tank and no slip stream for me .....and the carefull needing at this race instant.......

I had a wheel touch at the start, somehow came to close, my opponnent spun.
sorry, i could avoid lesmo 1 accident but touched the hedge outside lesmo 2 and got hit then.
I hope everybody survived this - i'm not sure - if it is that what Iestyn said.

I had a bit lack of topspeed with the ferrari i think. 292 Km/h without slipstream. Already drove a 1:32.9 but
yestersday only 1:33.5

thx for racing and orga - happily survivrd Monza.
