Moderator's Report

SUMMARY
A dominant display by Robert Fleurke with a flag to flag finish. After an unfortunate start Tristan recovered brilliantly to snatch second place and the extra kudos of the fastest lap. The final step of the podium belonged to Dean Logan thanks to a steady drive and the best percentage of on-track laps.

Server replay time: 0h00m49s

Lap 1 - Start Line - Axel Cookie, Ronnie Peterson and Tristan Bot
Ronnie gets a much better start than either Axel or Tristan and after only 5 seconds he is looking for a way past Tristan. There is very little room on Tristan's left so Ronnie elects to overtake him on the right just as Axel pulls alongside Tristan. At this point the cars are 3 abreast with Ronnie trying to squeeze up the middle. There isn't enough room and contact is made. Ronnie and Axel are able to continue largely unaffected but Tristan is punted off the track. Thankfully he can continue, apparently undamaged, after a spin on the grass.

Tristan made a slower start than Ronnie but he was not excessively slow. In fact he was quicker away than the fifth place man and everyone else behind him. Tristan kept a dead straight line and did not weave around. He did nothing wrong.

Axel made a better start than Tristan but not quite as good as Ronnie. Axel kept a dead straight line and did not weave around. He did nothing wrong.

Ronnie got a lightning start. The pole position man was the only other driver to get away so cleanly. Whilst the gap between Tristan and Axel may have been inviting, clearly it was a very risky move. A tape measure would show there is enough room if all three cars are dead straight but Ronnie is weaving around a little and makes contact with Axel's nearside rear wheel.

The blame for the incident has to lie with Ronnie. It was his responsibility to make a clean pass which he failed to do.

Server replay time: 0h00m51s

Lap 1 - Start Line - EvilClive, Arf Arf Arf and Bastian Grupp
Bastian gets a great start and overtakes Arf but he sees an incident developing ahead and quite rightly backs off a little. Arf doesn't have the same view of the incident because Donny's BRM gearbox is in the way and consequently he doesn't slow down at the same time as Bastian. Very minor contact is made which is probably warp related and both cars spin off. Evil is following and can't avoid the carnage.

Season 27 Professionals Trophy - Round 1 – East London

Welcome to the opening round of the Professionals trophy for Season 28. As advertised, to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Formula 1 season we will run the 10 original championship races. East London is almost flat but still has a several challenging corners. Not a Papyrus original but one of our regular add on tracks. If you think this is familiar, the Pros last raced here in December as a rerun of round 4.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

This season, races are to be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

Hmm OK, a strange affliction took hold here - the server disappeared from Igor! It first happened for 5 minutes while we were discussing cars in the chat room.. when it came back up, everyone previously left out piled in. I took a few more minutes before being ready to join.. and the server had disappeared once more, Rainier and I now left out.

That'll teach me for dilly-dallying laugh. I almost persuaded Tim out of his Honda and into a Ferrari! Roll Eyes

Is one round down enough of a handicap to switch to Lotus? Strictly the Reg Parnell car, of course.. Lotus 25-BRM if it existed! Tongue

Yes, same issue happened to me.

I was connected to the server but had to leave him to check something on Internet.
But when I came back I could not see UKGPL_8 anymore. Only UKGPL9 was here !   Embarrassed Embarrassed

Very bad start for season 28.

Interesting that at least 2 others noticed problems with Igor and the server as I noticed some odd behaviour last night.

I arrived in Igor at about 21:10 to join the race and failed because I had (the spelling of) the password wrong.  So, I bailed out of Igor to go and check that I had not got the password for the Ams and realised my mistake. back to Igor and the servers seemed to be jumping about with UKGPL8 moving up the list and one or two others adding at the bottom??!! UKGPL9 appeared to be fixed in its position and did not move ( at least whilst I was watching!).
When I tried to join UKGPL8 (with the now correct spelling of the password) it failed first time, but when I hit the "retry" button everything was fine.

I have decided to struggle on with the BT7 this season, mainly because I know I am going to suffer frame rate problems with my current setu, and I don't want to be on the front of the grid and watching a series of still photographs when the flag drops!  Wink
For this race I was happy to start last and try and collect a few points if I could. The plan being to try and pick up some slipstream and profit from other drivers misfortune.  That all went wrong when a couple of cars tangled off the grid and despite trying to avoid  them I was collected and swept off the track to rejoin with only Tris behind me. He did not stay there long  Sad

After that it was a lonely race, until Arf had a moment at T1 and I was able to sneak through. But he had more speed and was taking chunks out of my lead on the S/F straight on each lap, until another small mistake dropped him back and he started the chase all over again. When robert lapped me I tried to use the slipstream and keep Arf3 behind but even that did not work!!
The last lap was a total banzai lap looking for any small mistake by Arf that I could exploit, but he held it all together and I finished last.

Shame Iestyn and David had to miss the race due to these problems...

Was looking forward to a close fight with Iestyn and Tristan. Had prepared in the BRM, also gave the BT7 a spin, but was 2s slower than the BRM a lap...because I wanted to defend c'ship and knowing Tris was at least in the Lotus, I chose BRM...also hoped for Iestyn to do this season in a fast car...

Anyway, quali was very good with a BRM PR and an overall PR, UKGPL laprecord without any tow! Smiley

Had a good start and it seemed something happened with Axel and Tristan at Turn 1...from then on could gradually increase the gap to Axel and later Tristan, as Axel had to retire with engine probs...

Had one moment when nearing Arf and Clive, when Arf had spun in the chicane I think. Had to take evasive action on the grass to be safe, that was my only bad lap. Then it was a matter to bring it to the finish...almost same racetime as last year's race in the BT11. I think the BRM is as good as the other cars, apart from Cooper and BT7...as I ran alone it was again hard to keep focus and to run fast...

Well done Tristan and Dean for podium, and finishers. Commiserations to the retirements, and to those who couldn't join...

Strange thing is, that the server runs fine on multiple occasions all over the week,
but on Tuesdays nights there are sometimes gremlins.
It was the first time I saw it disappear from the racelist, but still running Shocked

Clive I do understand that your PC cannot run Spa67 well, but other tracks should be not such a big load.
Maybe some tweaks in CCC and GEM+ for the graphics should make it driveable with 60fps.
Wich version of the ATI Catalyst is installed? What seems strange is that the GPU runs full speed in the HWINFO pic!
My HD5670 runs best with Catalyst 14.4

Although the fps was a little slow at the start (34fps), it did show at 61fps at times during the race, although that was when there was a clear track and on the s/f straight.

I already have Catalyst 14.4 Axel. I have had that for some time.

There might be some settings I have wrong, or at least not set to give the best performance from the GPU, most of the original setup of the graphics card was guesswork on my part.

Another helper might be to run the lite65 carset - I ran it last year even with 36 fps, just to make sure of solid FPS laugh, but if you aren't getting 60 fps then lite65 should be a big help (unless you are already using it Clive).

Mod report published.

I'm only moderating Red Zone and reported incidents this season, as is the tradition with this division.
