Moderator's Report

Summary

Andreas and Tim have a nice battle for 1st place. Tim finishes on top, followed by Andreas and Dean. Iestyn has the fastest lap of the race and finishes fourth.

Server replay time: 0h00m44s

Lap 1 - Start Line – The polesitter, Iestyn, has engine trouble at the start, and is rendered immobile (43 seconds). Ronnie is directly behind Iestyn, and drives around him. Piero turns his steering wheel away from Ronnie's car and slows down, but does not have enough time to avoid contact. There is no penalty for having engine trouble. Although the GPL recommended driver behavior says to retire ASAP if that is the quickest way to clear the road in a particular circumstance. Piero had an unavoidable rear end shunt. The victim, Ronnie, was not holding his line and speed, and Piero did not have full control because his tires were spinning. Also Piero had less than a second to react. Dean is close behind Piero. Dean has no time to react, and makes contact with Piero. Dean concluded the incident was inevitable with the grid layout and an immobile polesitter. An offset in the lines would have made Ronnie's dive for the clear space less drastic, and may have avoided some of the ugly. Everyone was just trying to get through the insufficient space available.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h00m46s

Lap 1 - Start Line - Cookie and Samb are approaching the incident. Cookie slows down at the 45 second mark. Samb's view of incident is obstructed by Cookie's car. Sam slows a half second later than Cookie. The gap that Sam needs to drive between Cookie's car and Iestyn's car shrinks at the last moment. JonnyO and Doni do not have time to avoid Sam's car and each make contact. Cookie and JonnyO retire from the race. Sam performs a shift-R and Stop & Go. Doni is able to continue after the track is cleared.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h00m47s

Lap 1 - Start Line - Arf Arf Arf and Greg Taber are approaching the incident. Arf slows down at the 45 second mark. Greg's view is obstructed by Arf's car. Greg slows down at the 46 second mark, but he is not able to slow down enough to avoid contact with Arf. Both cars rejoin the race after the incident.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h00m52s

Lap 1 – Start Line – David Rainier and Bernie are approaching the incident. David slows at the 48 second mark. He drives on the grass to the left of the flagman. Bernie is following David, but he slows one second later, and he pulls alongside David. Bernie tries to drive between Iestyn’s car and the flagman. Bernie clips Iestyn and the contact sends him into David. David is sent into the grass berm. Bernie rejoins the track effectively overtaking David while in a caution zone. David rejoins the race 2 seconds later. Iestyn performs a shift-R and Stop & Go.

Advice: Drivers have a duty to drive safely and well within their limits when they have passed a yellow flag. Drivers may not overtake any car they are racing with, until they are sure they have passed the incident.

Server replay time: 0h06m46s

Lap 4 – Abbey - Phil stayed left to allow Iestyn to pass. This puts Phil on the inside line for Abbey. Phil had to take a bit too much kerb to avoid hitting Iestyn as he swept by on the racing line. The heavy impact on the kerb pushed Phil wide and into David. David sees Phil loose control, and he drives on the grass to try to avoid, but there was a side by side contact.

In a corner, after a legitimate overtaking attempt the cars end up side by side. One driver looses control and strays from their side of the track. Contact is made. Warning for driver that moves over.

Server replay time: 0h12m30s

Lap 8 – Stowe - Phil had inside line and Doni the outside. Phil was ahead and Doni clipped Phil's nearside rear wheel and crashes out. Phil was unaffected. There may have been some warp involved.

I will be missing this race and all the rest of the fun through next week.

I am on a business trip up North to Barnsley for a week from Friday onwards. Not sure if we have any GPL'ers in that area who might fancy a pint and banter one evening?

Attention all non-UK drivers: time change in the UK happens overnight (clocks go forward 1 hour), so action gets going an hour earlier than previous.

Sorry for the silly Q but what is the process to change the car appearance to the low wing versions?  Piero, you seem to have managed this.

Where a choice of car appearance is available it can be found in the GPL Game Player info screen. A "Graphics" drop down menu will be available where you can make your choice. Further hint look for First name, Last name, Country, Helmet, Graphics is the next one beneath Helmet.

Hope it helps.

Further to what Ronnie said: you have to pick your graphics in an offline session prior to starting the race. Then when you start GPL (through iGOR or GEM+), your car will have the wing setting (high/mid/low/none) you chose. BUT... you have to start the race with the car and driver you picked the graphics for; if you change the car, the graphics will reset to the default (high wing).

Sorry if I ruined your nights racing Doni (I think?) with that move to get by.

Not a bad race for me.  I'm starting to get better with the RFB but I'm still making unforced errors especially in the company of other cars.  Had a bit of a bump with Doni.  Sorry about that, there is some warp on my replay so I'll submit a report.  Great race with Dave Curtis until I made a mistake and he passed me and dissapeared into the distance.  I tried to hold David Rainier off but I made another unforced error and lost the place Sad

Grats to the podium, some very very fast times out there tonight!
