Anyone completed phase 2 of the career mode ?

There are at least 2 events where I can't get the car off the line at the start, it won't go in to gear and just sits there telling me I'm damaging the engine and/or the gear box if I rev the engine. I've tried waiting for the lights to go out and to then putting the car in to gear, no throttle, but that doesn't work either. It's consistent for me in events 3 and 5. I'm using sequential shifter if it makes a difference.

Any one care to confirm or give me a pointer to the error of my ways.
