Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

George Cheeseman starting from Pole wins the race in dominant fashion completing a hattrick setting also the fastest lap. Close race for the other podiumspots, with Bastian Grupp recovering from early race mistakes. He finishes second just in front of Dave Rainier who completes the podium. Billy had to settle for fourth after a spin out of Tunnel Oost late race, running in second.

The Red Zone was clean, very disciplined start by all, well done. All Pit Stops were performed according to the rules. Two incidents were reported by Francesco, thanks for that.

Fran is improving and trying hard. He is getting better results but he needs to try to drive within his limits. Pushing too hard can result in slower times not quicker ones. Also it's better to brake earlier than too late, especially in traffic. We all do make mistakes, and we should try to learn from then. Penalties are not there for the sake of penalizing itself, which can be demotivating. But we must try to act within the rules that are the same for everyone, and try to avoid incidents when we can. This goes of course for every driver.

Server replay time: 0h07m00s

Fran brakes too late and rearends Axel in Tarzanbocht. Axel retires, also being under the flu. Fran continues. Fran states he didn't attempt to pass or outbrake Axel, but was on the right for better visibility for his braking point. Axel covers the inside late, but Fran has too much momentum. Axel had every right to turn in when he did, Fran had no overlap (he was clearly visible in Axel's mirror the whole time).

Simple Rear End Shunt: Penalty 1 Place - The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter had lost control on the approach to the braking zone and consequently braked later than intended.

Server replay time: 0h08m33s

Fran brakes too late and rearends Dave Curtis in Tarzanbocht. Both can continue. Fran reports he failed to choose first gear, and wasn't able to brake in time, being under pressure from Bastian. I appreciate Fran was under pressure from Bastian but this is what racing is all about. Having the skill and spatial awareness to race in close company is what makes GPL fun.

Simple Rear End Shunt: Penalty 1 Place - The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter had lost control on the approach to the braking zone and consequently braked later than intended.

Season 28 Privateers Trophy - Round 3 - Zandvoort

The Zandvoort race track dates back to the 1930s. On 3 June 1939, an international competition for race cars was organized for the first time in Dutch history. This involved a course through the streets of Zandvoort.

During the period 1940 -1945 the plans for a permanent race track on the northern side of Zandvoort became more and more concrete, and in 1946 the construction of the circuit, which was partly formed by the natural slopes on the dunes, was definitively started.

On 7 August 1948, the first race was held on the new permanent Zandvoort circuit. Soon more races followed on the course, with the first official Formula 1 Grand Prix becoming a milestone in 1952. Up until the mid-eighties, heroes like Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost braved the challenging course in the Dutch dunes and won at Zandvoort.

After the Grand Prix of 1985, the Formula 1 left Zandvoort, but the seaside resort and its impressive race track were not forgotten. Many years after the last Grand Prix, the ‘racing drivers of the day’ still talk about their experience on the race track where the challenging corners ‘separated the men from the boys’.

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for Lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Hugenholtzbocht on the first lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Help, how can I join this series and this race ?

I've just signed up to this forum, I have GPL ver. 1.3 and will be downloading 60fps patch, I'm guessing that's it right?

best regards

Sorry Curtis, but during the breaking i have failed 2 times the gear and when this happen with a car in front i go in panic pushing the break.
Before the streight i have had some problem with your car that desappear more than 2-3 time into the curve. Is a miracle to have had no incident.

One thousand apologies to Billy for loosing control just before you were about to lap me. You did a fantastic job avoiding my incident. I blamed myself when I saw you loose the position to Bastian a lap later.

I have struggled at Zandvoort in each of my last few races here. I'll plan on practicing 100+ laps next time. I enjoy this track a lot, and I imagine that it will be very rewarding once I get the hang of it.

Good race all and congrats to George, Bastian and David!

Walt,

Your spin at the top of the hill had nothing to do with my error a couple of laps later where I threw away a likely 2nd place finish. Nothing to apologize for.

Apart from that spin which led to a rather long off road excursion trying to find the track it was a good race. I managed a PB in the Brabham which meant I started on the grid in front of Cookie. He was handicapped with the Honda (or maybe not trying so hard?) - but this was a rare occurrence for me. I had P2 for about 20 laps with Bastian regularly sitting on my gear box, making a small error then catching up again.

My budget balance only allows for the Cooper next time so will have to reacquaint myself with the back of the grid again.

Fantastic run by George.

My favourite track and an enjoyable race despite a poor start when on L1 I thought I'd passed Bastian who was recovering from an off and turned in on the racing line only to find him alongside me.
Fortunately Bastian recovered quickly though I bounced across the dunes making a meal of rejoining the track and losing about 30 seconds in the process.

I thought I was in for a lonely race but others had similar misfortunes and I found myself in some interesting battles not least in the closing stages when I rounded a bend to find Bernie parked in the middle of the track following a spin with no warning flags.
I was grateful for the open spaces of Zandvoort as a bit of cross country saved the day and a satisfactory 6th place.

PS Is there any way to get the replays to play at normal speed? I've tried with and without the 60FPS checked in GEM but they always seem to play at half speed

I was happy with a 1m28 something set on race fuel in qually , after the early laps I found my race was a bit on the lonely side so decided a spin or two might help pass the time away  Roll Eyes aided by a dose of the "cramps" which i seem to suffer more and more from these days . Good to see Micheal inherit my fourth place but a bit annoyed with myself near the end when I mistook francesco for someone lapping me  and let him through .

Not been too good of late , going  into hospital today for something called an angiogram as they think there might be a fault with my ticker , dont suppose it will make me any faster though !

Grats to the Podi and all those who finished .

Good luck with the angiogram, Bernie. I had one a few years ago which identified the need for a quadruple bypass. This improved my quality of life hugely but sadly did little for my GPL grid positions.

My Mistake but i wasnt sure how to avoid it, could only have seen you on pribluda.
In the end you lost one position i guess.

I had nice figthing with billy, in the end he made a mistake. In the end i wasn't sure if fuel is enough
and Dave catched up again. Not my favorite track but it was nice yesterday.

Congrats George on a dominating win, and Bastian and David for a close podium finish. Have watched the Red Zone, which was clean, well done all, very disciplined.

Please report incidents before next Monday.

Thanks to Axel for importing results and replay.

@Michael: normally when enabling 60fpsv2newmod patch, GPL will be in that mode, and 60fps replays will play at the right speed (and 36fps replays will play too fast 60/36). Without enabling the 60fps patch, 36fps replays will play at the right speed, and 60fps replays at 36/60 speed. So not sure what is going on.

@Bernie: good luck with the health situation. Hopefully it isn't too serious.
