Season 28 Historics Trophy - Round 3 - Spa (new)

The third race in the Historic series takes us to Spa. Classic track, new layout for GPL. This is the long awaited update to the Papy original. Perhaps THE classic Grand Prix circuit, the original triangular shaped course was designed in 1920 by Jules de Their and Henri Langlois Van Ophem. It used public roads between the towns of Spa, Malmedy and Stavelot.  The course was extremely fast and was made even faster in 1939 with the introduction of the famous Eau Rouge section.  The circuit was completely revised and shortened for the 1981 Belgian Grand Prix but it is the classic 60's 8.761 mile version of the track that we will use for this race.

This version of the circuit was used between 1946 and 1970 and corners like Eau Rouge, Burnenville and particularly Masta presented the drivers with exceptional challenges. Due to the combination of high speed, length and lack of any possible run off, the circuit was very dangerous and claimed the lives of many drivers.

Please note: We will not use the original Papyrus version of the circuit, we will use the version released in December 2014 by the Spa67 Team.

This race is for 3 LITRE cars. There is no handicapping

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

This season, races are to be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated from the start to the exit of Malmedy on Lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Wasn't planning to drive but I got home earlier than expected. Long enough to work out that I can't really do this track in a 66 car - should have bailed out before the start. Got as far as Stavelot.

I got as far as Stavelot too, only to find my way totally blocked. Managed to miss the one but clipped the other.

Survived the initial only to be rammed onto my rollhoop by someone who, yet again, managed to continue.  :'(

Not really his fault*, but dang the GPL gods can be b****es at times.

*edit: having watched the replay, using his brake pedal when approaching a mess is a GOOD IDEA (for future reference)

I am thinking of changing my name, as it seems that the only luck I get lately is the bad kind. So maybe if I race incognito (hmm is that a slick Italian gearchange??) I might escape the gremlins that are plainly out to get me??!!

I too got as far as Stavelot, hanging back through Eau Rouge lap 1 and again at Masta where B Grupp got a wobble on. So I was able to slide past him easily on the run to Stavelot.

I wish someone had told me that there was to be a Hairdressers Convention there tonight!! It was wall to wall Ferraris. I slowed as much as I dared and still kept the car straight, went as wide as I could to miss the first red missile and then found that I was against the outside barrier with a second fezza homing in on me and nowhere to go scared.

It was a carefully constructed trap, perfectly executed, I was suckered into position where and I was caught and disposed of. hang

Managed to get through the melee at Stavelot through luck more than judgement.  I slowed right down but cars were bouncing around all over the place and I got bumped into the in field.  Got going again but I must have damaged my engine, it expired at the end of lap 2.

A pity I really enjoyed driving these cars here.  They are powerful enough to demand respect and the handling isn't easy, good fun.

well well... what a night.. shame for all those that left early, but I tell you, that was harder than a proper race - knowing that all you had to do was keep it safe and you'd coast home for big points.

I will admit to this before you see the results. Iestyn crossed the line first, but reckons he reversed up Eau Rouge or summat. The official results in game say he was 4th after some penalty (DQ??), but my replay says he won...as it should be.

Iestyn, you didn't answer me - did you have a moment on lap 6 or did you hang back to see if you could get a race out of me - not that it'd ever have happened, I knew I couldn't keep up with you..because at the start of race I had no idea what my lap time was - couldn't hold it together for a lap and set no time in qually..then set 12 reasonably consistent ones during the race... good job lap 1 doesn't count towards that -I was just lucky not to get hit by flying scarlet metal....

Well done to Iestyn, Bastian and Fran for holding it together.

For me is an incredible result not for the third place but for the race ended without explosion of the engine. Grin
Anyway i'm setisfied of this result,my goal was to gain some point also with 50% of the race but the final result is more than expected.
