Moderator's Report

Nice win fo Philippe Girard, he took the lead on lap4, after Kai J Daum made a mistake, and kept it until the finish line.
Philippe won with 10 seconds from Kai J and 11 sec from Walter Conn.

After a difficult start of the race, and an accident with Rog and Billy, Walter was the quickest on track but he couldn't overtake Kai J.

No incident reported, one incident during red zone and only shift-R correctly followed by a stop and go for Rog.

Server replay time: 0h00m56s

Billy Nobrakes spun on the first turn after the start, Bernie could not avoid the accident and rear ended him.

Hopefully the 2 cars could continue the race without shift-R.

Season 28 Amateurs Trophy - Round 4 –Clermont-Ferrand

The Charade Circuit (also known as Circuit Louis Rosier and Circuit Clermont-Ferrand) is a motorsport race track in the Auvergne mountains in France near Clermont-Ferrand, the home of Michelin and Patrick Depailler.

Built in 1958 around the sides of an extinct volcano, the originally 8.055 km (5.005-mi) long Charade was described as an even twistier and faster version of the Nürburgring. Some drivers like Jochen Rindt in the 1969 French Grand Prix complained of motion sickness, and wore open face helmets, just in case. But 1970 was no better- Rindt was hit in the face by a rock, something that the circuit was usually littered with, and often caused punctures on the track.

In his 1969 book Motor Cycle Racing, Peter Carrick wrote:

"The French Grand Prix circuit at Clermont Ferrand was seen to be in complete contrast to the lap at Monza, when it was first used in 1959: the longest straight was 650 yards and a variety of really tight corners quickly demonstrated—or exposed—a rider's skill!"

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated from the start to the Charade straight on lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Don't much like this track.
Well done to Kai & Walt for very quick times.

Probably should have got 4th but lost concentration somewhere on a windy bit (not that there is not a windy bit) beached the car & pressed Escape instead of Shift R.

Apologies to Bernie - Braked a tad to hard / late at T1 & the car went rather squirrely.

Too many crashes,  including GPL - probably just before 50% distance too!
Biggest issue was just being too slow though.

Congrats all finishers;  you are all heroes!

Cheers,
Dave.

Small comfort I know, but you completed 8 laps according to the results.

Well done everyone, I hate this place about as much as Monaco!

Not my favourite track ( I'm sure the rl must have been better ) Not my best race either, car set up way tooo stiff in the interests of longevity , went off track once coinciding with lappery , watched the leaders go by while taking pie break under shade of trees , you should all try it , can recommend , very relaxing  Grin

Glad to see the chequer in the end.  14 laps here way to many for old bu**ers like me !

Grats to podium boys and whoever else finished , well done to all who took part  Smiley

( I'm sure the rl must have been better )
A lot more trees on the mountainside in reality, to obscure the scenic panorama, but the road looks very similar to our version.  Mind you, the tunnel is missing.  I drove around the track, while in the area last summer.  Laptime was under 15 mins, though the final third is nowadays part of a smaller purpose built track, so only we lucky few are still able to experience the full fright, in full flight. Cool

Another poor race by me, got a good start up to 2nd then to much over steer caught me out and back to 3rd, lap 3 went off must stop looking at prib, stuck in middle of road upside down sorry Billy and Walter who could not avoid me, did my stop and go, rest of race drove reasonably cautious to finish.

Grats to Philippe on win
Grats to Podium

Well done Walter on fastest lap.

Well Done Philippe and Kai!

My first practice for this race was about two weeks ago, and I had trouble getting into a rhythm. I decided to try the paddle shifters to see if that would help. I was frustrated by the slow shifting time. I do not know why GPL has such slow shifting times. The solution should be to speed up the shifting time for the non-GPLShift users. In any case, I knew that I had more work to do to prepare for the race. Axel's practice server was invaluable. I learned that starting on the outside was a huge disadvantage. I also made enough mistakes to help me remember to not drive past my abilities.

The Qually was fun. This was the first time that I used low fuel quantity for qually. I turned my fastest lap on my second lap. Then I made a change to the suspension, but it made the car worse. So I went back to my previous set-up, and filled it up with 13 gallons of petrol. It looked like I would have pole, but Kai topped my qually time near the end of the session.

I started P2, and I drove as wide as possible in turn one. I lost three positions before turn two. Rocket Rog had an unbelievable start moving from P4 to P2. I was behind Dave when he had a spin at Le Belvedere. I was not going slow enough to avoid him, and gave him a little tap. Sorry for that, it was my fault. I made a minor mistake later on in the first lap, and I lost a position to Billy. My favorite part of the race was chasing after Billy. On lap three, Billy and I collided with an upside down Rog on the downhill run to Le Belvedere. Then after surviving a near roll over, I promptly loose control in the braking zone for Le Belvedere. The Honda rolled over four or more times. I was extremely lucky that it landed right side up. Nothing seemed to be the matter with the car, and I started turning ever faster lap times. I had a nice duel with Billy for a few laps. Then I made it as far as Kai's gearbox. Kai was too quick on the straight parts for me to make a move. I enjoyed trying though!

I was happy to see yet another new winner this season, and to top it off, Philippe won at his home track. (yes?) Also, it is good to have another driver fighting for the Ams Championship.

I begin to feel better and better with the mod 65.
Initially, I just wanted to finish the race, because I don't know the track.
I'm really happy with this victory because the racers behind me stood a good rhythm.
The next time friends, congratulations finishers and thank you to the organizers.

Congratulation to Philippe for the Victory of his Home GP and Walt to the Podium. The Track was very difficult and I was happy to finished the Qualification in Poleposition. But in the Race I make a lot of small  mistakes an so I am happy to finished in Second Position. At the end of the Race I have a nice fight with Walt. It was a lot of fun and I hope we meet us in Silverstone again.
