Season 28 Historics Trophy - Round 4 - Oulton Park

The fourth round brings us home to Cheshire and the leafy surrounds of Oulton Park. We will use the long layout pre-chicanes with Island Bend. (Spring Cup 1967 layout)

This race is for cars with engines less than 3L in displacement. There is no handicapping.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

This season, races are to be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated from the start to the exit of the Esso curve on Lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Gents,

I have amended the first post to correct this and also the race length, as it was scheduled in the signup thread for 28 laps but incorrectly stated 24 laps.

28 laps to the flag. Smiley

EDIT: Have put UKGPL9 up for some pre-race practice, I think Cookie's got UKGPL8 running as well.

Everyone knows that million-to-one chances happen 9 times out of 10. Why the hell do I keep crashing then?!

Another 1st lap wreck. Stayed at the back to keep out of harms way. There was a car sat partly across the track - swerved a bit & ran into a advertising sign which ripped off a wheel. Not blaming anyone else but I think I will give up on this series as my races are typically 1/2 a lap long.

Sorry to E for tap lap 6. Trying to keep my nose out of you but couldn't manage.  Embarrassed

Karma caught up with me lap 14, in the form of that one sign on the outside heading towards Esso, that will remove a wheel quick as you please at the slightest, even unnoticeable, brush.  Easy 2nd place gone.

Grats Tris and podium.

Great track and great cars.  Enjoyed the race despite not finishing.  Just pushed a bit too hard, I need to slow down a bit and stop missing gears.  RFB is getting easier but I'm still missing too many gears.

Amazing lap times Tristan, grats on the WR, you were in a class of your own.

Grats on the second place David, a very mature drive.  I managed to stay close to you and Andreas in the early laps thanks to the draft but I pushed too hard and went wide (at Old Hall I think).

Nice racing Fran.  I couldn't get past you on this narrow track without you making a mistake.  Well done on 8th place.

Not properly nice, was the festival of the mistake. At certain point was a competition between me and you about mistake. My biggest was at the end of the race, mistake that permitted to Taber to join and overtake me.He was faster but ,i think, not enough to fill the gap with me before the end.
My feeling is that the Brabham is faster than the Ferrari(on the straight),coorect?
Anyway ,for me ,is a succes to have finished the race.

Congrats to Tristan who was just in another league altogether.  Positively swept the board for all honours.  I understand that his lap time sets a new WR for the car.  Not surprised at that!

Some hotshots fell afoul with bad luck.  Clive, Axel, Deaner and Ray all had grief.  Iestyn hardly got the engine warmed up before his exit.  Better days ahead, chaps.

Now to Dave...  Splendid drive, DR!  Hearty congrats on the P2 finish with a rock-solid drive.  From about Lap08 onwards, I was pasted onto Dave's gearbox but just couldn't muster enough speed to make a pass.  It was developing into a case of just waiting for a mistake for me to pounce and move up.  Just never happened.  A couple of times, I got really close but it was not a solid bid.  I should say, too, that in the opening laps, I was down on my knees praying for grip in Knickerbrook as my Eagle got really loose.  I adjusted my driving slightly...code for slowing down...and for the balance of the race, that devilish corner posed no more trouble.  Pleased to see that according to GPLRA, I scored no '64' laps.  Easy to drop wheels off here, isn't it?  Once again, super drive, Dave!  That was fun.  Smiley

Recovering from earlier offs, I had Clive and Axel hot on my tail in the middle frames but first Clive disappeared and then Cookie took a long, slow spin in Island Bend.  I could see his Brabham sliding sideways in my mirrors and thought that I may have contributed to that by getting a bit sideways there myself just in front of him.  If so, sorry, Axel.

Edit: Just thought I'd pop back in to say great job being done by Bastian who is riding high with a P2 in the overall standings.  Well done!

Thank you, Doni !
I have also to say "splendid drive, Doni" because I am not sure I could have done the same : to stay very close to the 2nd during almost 25 laps without taking suicidal risks to overtake.
That was fun but lot of pression for me.

I almost did a mistake when we had to overlap Francesco and I hesitated, what seems to me an eternity, before to overtake him.

Francesco, I did some tests before the race with the Ferrari 246, but I was 1,5 second quicker with the BT11 2,7L.

Bravo Tristan, great winner almost 2 seconds per lap quicker than anybody else, here.

See you in Rouen, a well known track.

Didn't manage Quali well so i just tried to get through. But i tried to put pressure and i hit a sign with my front, managed not to lose a wheel. But my engine went slower and i just finsihed it with some smaller mistakes.

Thx for racing and the orga.
