Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Axel "Cookie" takes his third win of the season in the Honda, starting from Pole and leading all laps. Dave Rainier finishes second in the BRM, after a difficult start. Philippe Girard takes the final podiumspot in the Eagle.

Dave Curtis has to settle for fourth, losing P2 in a late race mishap at A la Marsa. Billy finishes fifth, setting the fastest lap of the race on Lap 16. Francesco Molteni was the most consistent driver and rounds out the top 6 finishers.

Bernie Darwin was the last of (lead lap) finishers. All were classified for points, Michael Turner had to retire in the last lap, and Bastian Grupp some laps earlier.

There were three incidents in the Red Zone, with two related. Pit Stops after resets were difficult to do with a tricky pitlane, as Dave C. and Michael will concur.

Server replay time: 0h00m50s

Philippe Girard has a good start, and Michael Turner doesn't. With Fran on the right Philippe makes it three wide and both Michael and Philippe touch. It sends Michael into the hay bales on the side and he loses time. Both hold their lines but it is Philippe taking the risk.

Server replay time: 0h01m18s

Francesco rearends Bernie towards El Aquina. Bernie was considerably slower than the rest of the competitors there and Fran got caught out. Especially on Lap 1 we have to be more cautious than normal, especially in braking zones, on cold tires.

Server replay time: 0h01m26s

After rejoining Bernie and Dave Rainier are alongside and they touch. There was a bit of lag involved as well. Both can continue and have some of the most close side by sides on the straight since Mansell and Senna. We need to take in account crash boxes or server lag. Bernie's rejoin was okay and he held his line.

Server replay time: 0h04m36s

Bastian does his stop & go on the pit straight, not in one of the stalls in the pitlane. Billy almost runs into Bastian and has to avoid and lift.

Season 28 Privateers Trophy - Round 5 - Carthage

For Round 5 the Privateers will visit Tunisia, Northern Africa, to race at the dusty Carthage Street Circuit. It is a very fast 7.816 mile triangular highway circuit at the Tunisian coast line. We will use the 1935 version of Carthage (carta35).

Race List = iGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 10-05-2015
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = carta35
Race length = 16 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for Lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Soukra on the first lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

UKGPL_8 is waiting at IGOR for Privateers to practice the braking into the corners after the long straights!

Make shure your car has a stable straight line and avoid zigzagging...

I thought I may have been here before;   but from jumping on the practice server on Saturday - apparently not!
It became clear fairly quickly that I'd be lucky to get to 50% distance;  so decided to not waste any more tokens than the Honda.
Thanks for he company on Saturday Axel;  it did highlight how fast I wasn't...

Not sporting, but I would be relying on misfortune elsewhere for the main event.

For qually, was pleased to have finally managed to string together an outlap & a timed lap.

For the race,  I managed to make up a couple of places [that misfortune elsewhere thing] & circulate in 2nd for quite a while;  although Axel just continued to pull away quickly.
He must have had an issue at  one point because I was not that far behind;  but again he just romped ahead.

I was all too aware of cars getting nearer behind;  but presumably issues behind.
Then in the closing stages;   DaveR was quickly closing  up & I knew he'd be past within a couple of laps;   but it still looked hopeful for a potential 3rd place.

About 3 laps to go;  just went off at that hairpin & got a wheel stuck in the hedge/bales/cardboard boxes.  So a quick reset & Philippe was then very close & that was before my S&G.
I could have done without the spin in the pitlane & ending up pointing at the garages.  Eventually got going the right way,  but Philippe was long gone.

Just a case of trying to take it easy/no drama for the last lap or so. All in all,  very happy with 4th.

Still could not work out why there is a concrete chicane/bollards  in the middle of a desert.   I tip-toed through there every lap;   figured much quicker than hitting it....

Cheers all,  congrats podium.
Dave.

Yeah Dave, that was just the place where I had my spin...

But the 10sec lead was just enough to reverse the car and keep it in front Wink

With not much hope of surviving for the distance I was going to take the BRM here but decided i wouldnt be able to tolerate the H16 noise for 16 laps Tried the ferrari and found it a pleasant chassis to drive ( never drove the thing much at all before today ) so decided to chuck 17 valuable points into the GPL kitty , on reflection I would have done better driving the whale and retiring it as soon as the noise got too much .
The problem was big time understeer having to lift in corners that should have been flat in 5th , noticed the tyre temps never got out of the ice cold blue range which might be a factor ?
Race wise I enjoyed the chicken run down to T1 with Dave R's BRM alongside , guess who was the chicken . A bit of racing with fellow fez pilot Bagrup helped to pass the time on what is really a monotonous track we swapped places a few times mostly by giving each other dancing lessons . too many offs trying to hard seems the way of things lately in spite of Fran doing his best to help me along the way .

The usual grats to the podium and commiserations to all who fell by the wayside , at least I didn't get lapped this time out  Roll Eyes

I quite like these long tracks in the Eagle. Got very close to Cookies pole time & looked good for the race. Unfortunately I put  a wheel on the kerb through one of the ess sections on lap 1. Found out the desert sand does nothing to slow you down until the car eventually stops &  you want to get back to the road. I restarted last almost a minute down. Other than a contest with Fran it was a very lonely race. Minor consolation in fastest lap but ultimately a waste of tokens.

Fran - I think it was the power of the Eagle on the straights, plus some draft when I got close. Top speed was 202mph (without any draft).

Clear,converted in Km/h there is a difference of 7Km/h for the Eagle.

I am very happy to finish third. I'm not trained a lot to me. For a few laps I was in front of dave rainier, he was faster than me, but with my eagle, I was faster on the straights. Suddenly, I roll on the side, and I go in circles. I fear the worst for dave following me, but he managed to pass. Phew! My friend Dave!
Great victory cookie, and beautiful dave race. No chance for dave curtis. thank you all

I choose the BRM because it was good for tokens and also because I thought Axel was unbeatable on this track.
Maybe it was an error, Axel was not so quick with the Honda and the gap was not so important at the finish.
But maybe Axel was not pushing hard as he had no real opponents, here.

My start was catastrophic, quite all the drivers overtook me on the long straight.
Moreover I lost time when two drivers, Francesco (?) and Bernie (?), had an incident.
Then I had a fun fight with Bernie, as he explained previously.

I was quickly 4th, but Dave C and Philippe were really quick. Both made a mistake (or two  Wink  ) and I could finish second.

Grats Axel, Dave and Philippe and all finishers !

Thx David,
you are right, I was pushing only as much as necessary, once I had a lead of ~12sec I fell in safety mode.
The tactic payed off, when I spun in the "palm alley"  Grin

In free practice the Honda was able to do 32s, so I had some reserve to push...
The setup for the Honda for this track needed a lot of work to get the rear end agile enough Grin

This season helps me a lot to understand the 67s wich never were my favourite cars (I am more the mature GT driver like Derek Bell)
