Moderator's Report

Dominant performance on a difficult track by Greg in the Lotus, taking pole position, fastest lap & the victory. Iestyn's 2ns spot moves him to the top of the championship table. Another podium finish by Gismo for third. Having missed the first two races he might come into contention later in the season when the dropped races are taken into account. Can Robert get back his to his winning streak from the opening 3 rounds?
Red zone was clear & there were no reported incidents.

Season 28 Works Trophy - Round 5 – Brno 1965

For this round the Works & Privateers part company. The Works visit the Czech Republic. The Masaryk circuit at Brno was originally founded as a race circuit in 1930, the original course running counter-clockwise for some 29.1Km (18 miles) through 9 towns/villages. The layout changed direction & was progressively shortened over the years. The ’65 version still has 50 turns & will be something of a handful in the 1967 cars. Good luck.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated. For this event the red zone will be from the start to Troubsko on the first lap . Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers may be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

We race Brno 1965 rather than the more familiar Brno 1949 here at UKGPL. Difference is Sector 2 is cut short, and at the 1965 version there are brake markers at the side of the track.

Without the very challenging Sector 2 of the 1949 version, plus the added brakemarkers, this is a safer version IMO, but of course there are still many places to wreck. Wink

One of the best tracks in GPL IMO! Smiley

Never raced Brno 1965 (or 1949) before and was not especially looking forward to learning a new long track, but has to agree, this is one of the most fun tracks I've tried :-)

It's a pity Privateers racers will be deprived of such a track.

I suspect most Privateer drivers will be happier with Carthage.

Of course, Carthage is way easier than Brno. So it seems logic to use it for Privateers. I have no problem with that.

But Carthage is a non selective track, like Monza or Hockenheim, you just need a great engine and a heavy right foot  Wink

Carthage 35 might be brutal for engines Grin.

That said, I've blown up on the second gear change of a Brno65 start before and quickly parked it in the pit lane exit laugh!

Very lucky to escape a potential huge pile-up there angel.. Cue Formula E at Monaco Tongue - Nico Prost just can't catch a break..

Don't worry Ron, I'm sure works can create our own crashfest within the first 3 turns..( maybe 4), just like most races at Carthage. So you won't miss out on any of the fun by racing at Brno 65    Roll EyesGrin

laugh Yeah I suspect a few might not make it out of town into the countryside  laugh Lets hope we are both wrong.

I think the Brno 65 track is great to drive. But for racing, notwithstanding that narrow start, give me Carthage anytime. Its a bit like the decision to run Schottenring for the Works series later on and the Privateers get the best racing track in the whole of GPL in my opinion, Monza10K. While I support the need for testing tracks for the Works series, I also think tracks that lend themselves to good racing without having to worry about the scenery all the time, should not be ignored. Maybe something to discuss in the mid season review. Good luck everyone tonight, wherever you are racing.

We have tried to make a good mix of the calender. Works always has a more challenging calender than Privateers. With Stardust, Albi, Silverstone and Willow Springs among another tracks, many "easy" tracks for close racing.

Monza10k is known for it's screenfreeze issue's (for example had them in the 3 races I recall there), so we have put Tripoli 1937 on the calender for Privateers. Another fast track you might like Wink

Sometimes it happens at random at any track it seems, but the banking section of Monza10k is known to cause screenfreezes.

Screen freeze  :'(. Shame, was really enjoying the race up until that point. Hopefully no one else suffers the same fate.
