Moderator's Report

SUMMARY
A clean race with only one reported incident.

Server replay time: 0h12m12s

Lap 8 - Copse - Dean Logan, Doni Yourth, Bastian Grupp, Dave Rainier, N Hance, Ronnie Peterson and Tim Muttram

After following Doni for some time Dean makes a clean pass into Copse and holds the inside line. Doni turns in on his normal line and rear ends Dean causing both cars to spin creating a road block. Bastian Grupp, Dave Rainier, N Hance, Ronnie Peterson and Tim Muttram all try to take evasive action with varying degrees of success. All drivers recover successfully apart from Bastian who is left upside down and out of the race.

This is clearly Doni's fault, the only question is was there warp involved? The cars do not appear to be flickering on the server replay so there is no obvious evidence of warp on the server. Doni intimated that internet lag was a factor, but without a client reply it is impossible to confirm.

Given that Doni had circulated for several laps in close company with other drivers, notably Dean with whom he had negotiated Abbey and Woodcote side-by -side, one can only conclude Doni made an error of judgement in trying to tuck in behind Dean in an effort to fend off Bastian. Whilst this would normally attract a penalty, given the good driving displayed in the previous two corners, a warning is sufficient.

Season 28 Professionals Trophy - Round 5 – Silverstone

Silverstone hosted the very first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1950 and although the circuit layout has changed over the years, the variant of the track we will race on tonight is practically the same as the original 1950 layout.  The only real difference is the pit lane. In fact the track was used in this form until 1975.  Silverstone witnessed dozens of spectacular races during this period not only Formula 1 but also sports cars and motorcycles.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

This season, races are to be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

Race List = IGOR

Shouldn't it be 31 laps (registration thread)? 38 laps is close to an hour. Wink

Well it was eventful. Held them off as long as I could Grin. Towards the end I was catching FMG but slowed to let the leaders pass & that was the end of that. One unavoidable accident running into others who had crashed & a couple of nudges but the car held together so at least I finished. Not my favourite track but I got a good view of some really close racing.

Not so eventfull for me...

The two leaders were too fast, Tim and Ray gave their position spinning  Roll Eyes

Lonely drive to the end on a track I am not so firm with.

Grats to Tris and Rob for the superior speed. Maybe a little gambling by Rob  Wink

Quali was good, but didn't have a clean lap with tow, but still Pole Smiley

Took the lead, but early on already felt Tristan had overcapacity. I had (too) low tirepressures, and went wide at Chapel on Lap 2, tried to hold on the inside, but Tristan had the preferred line and got by.

Basically Tristan ran real good lines, and had better exits than me. I had trouble at times to keep a good line, and only could get closer to the end of a straight. Didn't want to risk a late braking move on entry, and never got alongside. Stayed close, and put more pressure late race, then planned for a move out of Abbey completing the pass in Woodcote to the checkers. However messed up Club in the last lap, went in too hard and went tight-loose...lost touch and that was that despite a real good sector 4 that would have fitted well in executing the plan...

Great win Tristan, you had a real good handle on the Lotus, and drove really nice lines. Hardly any mistake, very good under pressure! Wink Also well done Axel and finishers. Smiley

Good recovery Andreas!!!

Even if I was very slow, compared to other drivers, I had a very pleasant and fun race... until my engine began to smoke at 5 laps to the finish.

At this moment, I was 6th with Ronnie ready to overtake me. Maybe I was pushing too hard  and the Climax couldn't resist.

I was surprised FMG (Tim)  was so slow (even slower than me !!) during the race although he was 3rd on the grid. Probably his race setup was really not the good one.

Grats to Tristan and Robert, and all finishers !

See you for next race in Robert and Gouda's country !  Wink

Congrats to Tristan on a super win!  Great pace and accuracy throughout.

Close but no cigar for Robert who shadowed Tris for oh so long only to come up a tick short.  Fine drive nonetheless.

Axel a distant and lonely P3 at the flag but a good, consistent run.

I really don't care for the British aerodrome what with it being bone-flat and blessed with those wretched curbs.  Always a trial.

My run was largely a surprise in terms of pace as I did much better than I would have predicted.  Not qualifying particularly well despite setting a new PB in the P261...the old marker dated from 2008 so I guess I should have learned something in the intervening years, right?..but found myself much further along on Lap01 than I would have guessed.  Surprised to find that Dean was behind me as I knew that he put down a lap in Q much faster than I and started two rows ahead of me.

Early laps were quite fun and I was actually enjoying myself at this venue for a change.  Dean was hounding me relentlessly but couldn't seem to muster a pass.  Runners ahead fell to grief and by Lap06, found that my pitguy was flashing me a P5.  Heady stuff!

Lap07 and I found at Stowe that the rear axle was breaking loose.  Moments later at Club, ditto.  This allowed Dean to steam up on my right as we headed towards the notorious Abbey curve which, with its curb at the apex, is always a chance for a classic fail.  I'm not entirely certain why I decided to fight for the position and hold to the low line instead of yielding.  Perhaps a thought that Dean would skate wide on the exit and drop back.  As it was, we ran through Abbey side-by-side.  You don't see that too often.  Down the straight to Woodcote and we were still level-pegging at the turn-in.  I ran in high and left room for the other lane and as it shows, Dean and I ran through there side-by-side.  Again, a rare sight.  Down pit straight to Copse, a quick look right as we neared the bridge revealed that Dean was going to win the corner and I thought it best to ease up a little early and tuck in behind him as we arced into the corner.  This was also a somewhat defensive move planned to deny Bastian, running very well indeed I might add, the chance to slip underneath me as we rounded Copse.  I'd seen BG hovering just off my rear exiting Woodcote.  To my horror, I suddenly found Dean braking much harder than I had anticipated and I couldn't avoid.  Not sure if it was extreme braking on his part, a misjudgement on mine or a warp but for whatever reason, I clipped his tail and started a mean shunt involving several members.  I ended at a dead stop facing the wrong direction and wasn't aware of much of the consequences surrounding me.  Dean suffered a major shunt but miraculously, recovered and stormed off to score a fine P4 at the flag.  Poor Bastian suffered the great misfortune to be inverted ending his day.  Bad luck, bud.

Doing a power-spin to right the BRM, I took off in pursuit of the field now having dropped to P10 and without much hope of a decent finish.  Over the next handful of laps, I was surprised to find that I was reeling in many of those ahead as they seemed to be balled-up in a tight scrum and were possibly delaying each other.  Picked my through most and found myself in a surprising P5 again with Dean just up the road.  I was relieved to see that he'd been able to continue as our earlier duel had been quite exhilarating.  For a brief time, I thought that I might be able to close on him but soon, it became apparent that he was waltzing away at a good pace with each passing lap.  In the later laps, I started to fade somewhat keeping an eye on pitboard for gap back to Dave.  That became Ray in the chase as the finish neared as Dave suffered an engine problem.  Just managed enough not to throw it off the road and placed P5.  That's a good day for me at Silvastone.

My least favourite original Papyrus track. But despite some knocks and scrapes. good racing was had. Thanks to all especially Tim and Dave. Dave's engine gave up the ghost just as things were really spicing up and I'm sure Tim had engine/handling woes all race? Just not enough laps to chase Doni down, maybe next time. Grats to Tristan, Robert and Axel.

Poor performance by me last night - Entirely avoidable off in T1 because I was too busy working out whether the P4 car was in side me or not and missed my turn in  wacko

Touched the grass, span off, and clobbered the left rear on the concrete-reinforced-haybales/bank. GPLRA says I suffered 'medium suspension damage'. I hate to think what heavy suspension damage is because based on my tyre temps a few laps later when I looked the left rear must have been tilted over about 40 degrees!

This meant that while I still had full power I was unable to turn right and accelerate hard at the same time - something of a handicap here I'm sure you'll agree. So whenever anyone faster got close enough to challenge I had to just let them by, I guess I should be pleased I was lapped when I was - otherwise I would have had to let Norm by as well and lost another place  Grin

Based on old laptimes Vs the new setup I'd made I should have been annoying Tristan and Robert so a bit gutted - at least I gained a few places as others span off/disco'd.

Hoping for better luck next time so I can drag my championship back out of the gutter!

I don't know what it is about Silverstone, but it always seems that some drivers (who really should know better) put blinders on.  Sad

I'd like to point out this section in the rules, from https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/side_by_side:

Quote
Simple Side by Side contact: Penalty 1 Place

On a straight, the overtaking car moves out to overtake, maintains his line and has NOT achieved 100% overlap but the overtaken driver moves across into him. Penalty for overtaken driver.

This happened to me several times during this race, though I was able to avoid the contact:
- Lap 1, Copse, by Clive
- Lap 3, Abbey, Norm
- Lap 4, Woodcote, Doni
- Lap 7, Copse, Doni
- Lap 9, Woodcote, Ronnie

Please, guys, watch your mirrors. If someone's getting bigger, and then they disappear to one side, they are quite likely alongside you, AND THEY THEN HAVE THE RIGHT TO THAT PART OF  THE TRACK.

Grin HI Guys....was a hard victory, allway under Rob pressure, I catch the first oportunity to take the lead but the most difficult think was to stay focus till the end.....Rob was better on the break but as he say, my exits was not bad .......so , back on the podium is good but after 3 "no scoring race " I'm 107 pts from the lead ..... :'( ......
