Grats to the podium and to Fed on a dominant performance.
With 6 starters I had high hopes of climbing to 6th place, with a setup that did not work. I was a good 3 secs off the pace around this track and despite some fiddling with the setup during quali, I just could not extract any more time from the 1800 Escort.
After about 3 laps of the race everyone was out of sight and I decided to plug on and try and improve my PB...that did not work either!! Frex vanished from the race and I was up to a lofty 5th place ( but still last by a looooong way).
Then John got bored chasing the Loyne's pair and fast Fede and waited to toy with me and my lame Escort.
For a few laps I was allowed to savour the dizzy heights of 4th place as John sat on my bootlid. I think my wimp like braking and hopeless cornering caught him out once or twice and he aborted into the scenery, only to re appear 5secs behind and close the gap again in about 2 laps!!
His pace was a good 3or4 secs a lap better than I could muster, so I just played defensive and tried not to leave any gaps. Huh!! some fat chance of keeping John behind for 6 laps!!
He merely toyed with me for 5 of those laps and then went around the outside at Parabolica to snatch his 4th place back on the last lap. Still, 5th place was more than I deserved or expected .
Hopefully I have now dropped out of the penal colony and maybe I get a car that will offset my lack of ability in the next races.
