Season 28 Professionals Trophy - Round 7 – Nürburgring

The seventh round of the season will be at Nürburg in Germany.  An iconic track, loved by some, hated by others.  Commonly referred to as "The Green Hell" thanks to Jackie Stewart, the Nordschleife provided the ultimate challenge for the Formula one drivers in the 1960s.  With 160 turns over 14.2 miles the track twists and turns, rises and falls through the stunning countryside of the Eifel mountains.  It is still regarded by many as the most demanding and difficult purpose-built racing circuit in the world.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

This season, races are to be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

Tough luck Tristan. Lots of cars disappearing and reappearing for me tonight? But silly mistake for me at the start of lap 2. Good luck all those still running.

Tough break Tristan, I guess the counter was down already so you couldn't rejoin.

Was happy with a PR in quali, beating Tris' time just. Bogged down at the start, prolly had my foot still on the brakes  Roll Eyes Still had margin to lead, but already soon almost lost it and went wide at Hocheichen losing the lead. Iestyn gradually went away from me, couldn't hang on. Making little mistakes didn't help. Tim stayed close for most of the first lap but had to retire later I think on Lap 2.

Iestyn led by 15s or so after 3 laps, but later on Lap 4 he rolled over at the Pflantzgarten 2 downhill jump I think, pushing for sub8m20s...inherited the lead, but still had some moments going sideways at Adenauer Forst and spinning in the last lap at Schwalbenschwanz which spoilt my run for fast lap, which I probably just had missed out on...

Grats Clive and Dave R. for podium, good job finishers and scorers. Better luck next time DNF's Wink

I'm half certain my momentary lapse of concentration was dog related - I may be having Alsation casserole for tea in the near future if she continues showing affection mid-race!  cursing
At least it was a '65 race, I'm doing badly enough this season it doesn't really matter Sad

You may not believe it looking at the lap times but I as actually trying in this race & these were the best times I could produce. My own set up for the Honda with which I did my PB lap off line was awful bad handling & I kept crashing so for maybe the third time in over 100 UKGPL 65 races I used a downloaded one. Did a couple of laps with it last week & it felt safer so I used it for the race. Usually if you make contact with the scenery at this place a damaged car results & you are out but I did this a couple of times & got away with it. Also had 2 spins & hit absolutely nothing. So I'm a lucky boy. After 3 laps I was 8th so thought well I may as well try & finish which is an achievement.

Well Done Rob, Clive, & Dave R. Thanks to Cookie  he must have been sat watching thinking how much longer is he going to be because they are one hour ahead in Europe so I guess I was keeping him up when he wanted to shut the server down. Roll Eyes

Very happy to collect 2nd place, but sorry to see so many of the fast guys fail to finish.

Driving the BT7 at Nurby is one of life's conundrums.  The BT7 handles like a dream, but lacks sheer grunt to poke it out of the slower corners.

I have never bothered much about qualifying at Nurby as the lap is so long and the near certainty of cars going off ahead almost guarantees that places will be gained.

David powered past me off the grid and I had to follow him for the first lap as we both moved up the leader board as cars went wide etc. I had to brake early to avoid rear ending David and incurring the wrath of the mods, but he was moving quite quickly so I was not too bothered. The BT7 might lack raw power, but with the right gearing and a little slipstream it can be quite quick on the straights  Grin And so it was, that I positioned myself to get the tow as I followed David on to the long straight and dropped into that lovely 6th gear, allowing the revs to build before sweeping past in time to take the racing line under the bridge  Smiley

Overcome with self importance I then proceeded to throw that move away and spin allowing David back through!! By the end of the lap I had almost closed the gap before the straight but was 50 mtrs too far back.and did not get past David until he got crossed up in the final Esses.
This time I was careful and eased the gap out to what looked like a comfy 3rd, until Iestyn presented me with 2nd place.
I was never going to worry Iestyn or Robert for pace in the BT7. Those were some impressive times guys!! I'm not sure I could have lived with that even in one of the quick cars!!

Great racing David for the first few laps  Wink
