Season 28 Amateurs Trophy - Round 7 – Nürburgring

The seventh round of the season will be at Nürburg in Germany.  An iconic track, loved by some, hated by others.  Commonly referred to as "The Green Hell" thanks to Jackie Stewart, the Nordschleife provided the ultimate challenge for the Formula one drivers in the 1960s.  With 160 turns over 14.2 miles the track twists and turns, rises and falls through the stunning countryside of the Eifel mountains.  It is still regarded by many as the most demanding and difficult purpose-built racing circuit in the world.

Race List = iGOR
Server = UKGPL_9
IP address = 37.157.48.87
Race date = 09-06-2015
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time (21:30 GMT)
Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Papyrus Original
Variant = 65
Damage Model = Intermediate
Race length = 5 Laps (50 minutes)
Password: see above
RED ZONE = from the start to the exit of Flugplatz on the first lap

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated from the start to the exit of Flugplatz on the first lap.

Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

I have voted, and hope to join the grid tonight at the Nurburgring.  With at least 2 full time drivers absent there should be plenty of space for a place.  Might need to request the password in chat.

I'm happy with this victory. I was angry at Zandvoort because I did the pole, and I got out early in the race. Today good start. the red zone has been respected. Congratulations to all because the nurburgring is not easy, this is hell...but not for me !

Congrats Philippe - you clearly just blasted away from the start & kept going!  Opening the replay in GPL.tv just shows this in action.

I was expecting to have been dropped by T2 & potentially gain a place or 2 due to retirements,   but there seemed to be a buzzing pack for longer than expected.

Still don't really like this track;   but I'm fairly happy with that outing tonight.  3secs off previous PB on my 1x qually lap & another 14 secs off that in the race.    Seemed fast enough on the straight bit,   but realistically slow anywhere not so straight.

Steering seemed to go a bit funny,   but seemed to get used to it.
Some interesting scuffles on the way.  Apologies Martin if I held you up too much.

Another fastest lap for Walter & a fine P2.    I probably handed about 700yards over with a couple of spins,   but with those blistering last couple of laps,  he'd have been past anyway.

I imagine there will be a larger grid for the next one Smiley

Cheers all,
Dave.

I was able to transfer my BRM setup from my last Nurb race to the Honda that I'm using this season. It worked like a charm, but I was woefully out of practice. Two weeks absence is too long.

The start was beautiful, I definitely want to watch again. I was following Billy too close at Kottenborn and Schwedenkreuz. I fell off the track, and I was lucky that I regained control before Aremburg. I rejoined in last place, but lucky for me I was not the only one to make mistakes in this race. I worked my way up to 2nd place two or three times. Each time after having fallen back to fifth or sixth place. We each did an exceptional job at avoiding each other's mistakes.

I had to use a shift-R after hitting a road sign near Kesselchen. I had engine damage mostly. I forgot to take my stop & go on the first lap, but I remembered on my second lap. I was stunned that I was able to reclaim 2nd position after the stop & go. I was completely shocked that I had the fast lap of the race. Of course, it was well off Philippe's Pole qualifying time.

Congrats Philippe on a well done victory. I'm glad to see that you have retribution after the Zandvoort DNF. Thank you Jethro for the server and Phil for organizing! Good race to all finishers, I always had competitors near.

Thought I would take the Cooper for a spin - well several spins as it happened but I also managed to wreck an engine.

Philippe was in a race of his own until Walt sped up for the last couple of laps.

I think I was in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th place at different times. Despite the low turn out there was always another car somewhere close.

I doubt I will ever like this track or work out how to drive it properly.

Monza next - a bit more to my liking.

My thanks for the compliment David R.  I was a minute faster in the Lotus, but too much speed frightens me. Shocked

After running out of fuel on my faster practice lap, I was refueling for 6 laps, and re gearing, when I suddenly noticed the start attempting to leave!  Made it onto the line in the last millisecond, with the 3rd Honda. Shocked

Much jostling of places on lap one, except for Philippe, who quickly disappeared from view.  Approaching midway, Dave, Billy, and the 3rd Honda were still in close contention, with Walter making up ground on us.  T'was with sadness, the white wonder gave up a 3rd of it's motor to the GPL Gods, on the long straight bit, whilst trying to hang onto Dave's tail. Shocked Angry

Using all of the track, and some of the countryside, I was unable to grab quite enough road to do any damage, in the remaining laps.  Noticed a part was missing near the finish line, so went back to look for a wheel, but didn't find it or the line to finish.  None-the-less, t'was a suitably fraught and fun filled event.

I actually rode on the back of Martin's car up the last straight - thought "Ooh he is slow... he won't catch Bill now" then I noticed he had taken the Robin Reliant version of the whale.  laugh

Had some fun, made a few overtakes, span a LOT but nice to be back.
