Moderator's Report

Summary

Robert started late from pit lane. His lap times were the most consistent. He took the lead with two laps to go, and won the race. Not bad for a reserve driver. Tim was the fastest driver on this day. He started from pole, and he had the fastest lap in the race. He led the first and the 26th laps. He recovered from earlier mistakes, and he only finished four tenths behind Robert. Piero put in a great effort. He led the most laps. He was very consistent up until lap 32 of 34. He only went off track once, which put him back to third.

Marco drove the McLaren M7 (DFV) in two races this season. He used the M7 at Monaco and at Monza.

The 69 Extra Trophy Championship page rules states that "Light drivers: Each car can be driven only once in this season."

Server replay time: 0h00m49s

Lap 1 – Starting line – Red Zone - Rear end shunt. David R. has a bad start, and Phil had to move right to avoid him just at the point when he needed to change up. Unfortunately Phil missed the gear (easy to do with H shifter and clutch). Doni starts from behind Phil, and he follows Phil to the right. Phil slows a lot, and Doni is unable to avoid him. Phil flips over, and he uses a shift-R.

The victim slowed unexpectedly and shunter was too close to take avoiding action.

Server replay time: 0h02m38s

Lap 2 – T1 - Curva Grande - Side by side contact. Bastian moved to the inside of Marco after passing the 100 m sign for the corner. Bastian was 8 Km/h faster and had about 50% overlap when Marco turned into the corner making contact. This was a preventable incident. Bastian could have waited for a safer opportunity. Conversely, Marco could have gone wider and no accident would have happened. However, it is debatable wether or not Marco could have still been watching his mirror the instant before corner entry. Marco receives the worst damage, and he has to use a shift-R.

On a straight, the overtaking car moves out to overtake, maintains his line and has NOT achieved 100% overlap but the overtaken driver moves across into him. Penalty for overtaken driver. Simple side by side contact penalizes the overtaken driver one place usually. In this incident, Marco lost even more than one place on track after completing his shift-R and Stop & Go.

Lap 3 – Parabolica – Side by side contact. Tim is on the inside. He loses control, and takes out Dean. Dean comes to a stop in the sand trap, but then gets caught in the sticky Hedge while turning around. Dean has to use a shift-R, and he goes from 7th to 18th place.

In a corner, after a legitimate overtaking attempt the cars end up side by side. One driver looses control and strays from their side of the track. Contact is made. Warning for the driver that moves over.

Server replay time: 0h38m14s

Lap 25 – Parabolica - Rear end shunt. Marco and Phil slow down through Ascari to avoid a car that is recovering from an off. Greg overtakes Phil, but stays behind Marco going into Parabolica. Marco slows 15 mph more than normal for the corner and Greg is going about his normal speed (100 mph). Greg rearends Marco under braking before corner entry. Marco's car flips over, and he has to retire.

The victim was in full control but braked early compared with the average for the division. The shunter had not followed the victim at a safe distance for a lap or two. The shunter was in full control.

Server replay time: 0h38m22s

Lap 25 – Parabolica - Rear end shunt. Dean overtook Bastian under braking for Parabolica. Dean is on the inside of the corner, and he slows down for the incident that happened a moment before hand. Bastian turns into the corner behind Dean. Bastian is distracted by the cars in the gravel when he realised too late that Dean had slowed more than usual. So by reflex, Bastian tries to go to the inside of Dean where there was not enough space. Bastian makes contact with Dean's right rear corner. Dean's car flips over, and his race is ended.

The victim was in full control but braked early compared with the average for the division. The shunter had not followed the victim at a safe distance for a lap or two. The shunter was in full control.

Out for a lot of the weekend & back late on Sunday;   so straight into qually without much of a change to learn the track...
[that's my main excuse & I'm sticking with it].

Had some interesting moments & also some not quite as interesting moments.  More contact than the ideal amount too.
Maybe the tow does make it more interesting if you have it;  even I was able to pull off a couple of overtakes!  Although, it's never that far until the next corner...

<SNIP!>
that got me a place or two and almost caught Dave C up for a last lap sprint to the finish  . Madly exiting race once again  Roll Eyes

Thanks for keeping it interesting at the end Bernie!   It's certainly also tough going at the back of the runners with this group...

Cheers all,
Dave.

Should be less to complain about here, than on Fridays Dave.  There's enough performance difference here between cars, for this handicap system to give we Heavies a chance to mix it.  Very slim chance to win, but the chance of a midfield argument is all I ask.

Only 5 raced last F2 Friday race - same handicap, different cars.  A full grid here means a handicap success, though a win would be nice!  Tongue

Thanks, guys, but would not talk about bad luck ..
Under pressure I made a big mistake! Shocked

Congratulations to Robert great race!

They are not trained to compete for victory.
I always run out of pure passion and fun, no particular ambitions, by training two hours a week if all goes well, a way 50 years to spend two hours with my brother Marco and Roberto Teso, you and the great GPL that I installed on my PC by legendary October 1998 !!

Thank you all

Last Friday Walter was fighting me (T222) with a Lola T260 most of the race! That's enough performance difference between cars!
Most Heavies lack consistency...

My race was frustrating...
Had done some practice before and all seemed settled well,
but fighting for the lead was resulting in the first engine blow, the second was after regaining 4th with a good chance for a podium..

No shame in that Piero, it happens to all of us. Wink

Also you seemed to have a car disadvantage I think. We were racing real close through Ascari, I had just enough room to hold the inside and then braked very late for Parabolica. Thanks for being aware of what I was doing. I relied on the fact you would give room in Ascari, not the best place to pass. With Tim closing in fast I knew I had to try to make a move as soon as possible, and trying to hold on to the lead...

Well done and thank you. Smiley
