Season 28 – Round 6 - 69 Extra Trophy - Monza

For round 7 we visit Monza, the race track is located near the city of Monza, north of Milan, in Italy. The circuit's biggest event is the Formula One Italian Grand Prix, which has been hosted there since the sport's inception.
Not much to say about this super fast track...

69X use the 60fpsV1 patch.

The race will be run under INT rules and you have a free car choice.
You can do 1 shift+r with a consecutive stop and go in the pits !

Drivers will have a free car choice

For the Light drivers: Each car can be driven only once in this season!

The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of the Lesmo 2 on the first lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.

Please restrict chat to emergency messages only including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 30 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 25 mins of qualifying left.  

I recomment for drivers with low spec pc's to use the original Papy track version for 60fps online races!

During 1969, there were some big changes to the appearance of these cars.  It's possible some racers have not explored all the different models, the 69x mod has available.  I confess, I often stick with one I like, but have decided, as we are racing the correct championship tracks this Season, to use the correct car model for the track.  So for Italy, I'll be racing the IT car.

To change to a new model, go to the Player info page.  Go to the graphics arrow, and scroll down to make a change.  This will not change the performance, but only the appearance of the transportation.  Stop & go penalties not required for not doing so correctly, as I might forget by next race.  This info is mostly for those unaware of this poorly labeled, alternate model option.

Getting punted into the weeds at Parabolica (twice) doesn't help one's championship standings.

Enjoyable race and very pleased to get 6th.  Didn't get off to a good start though.  The car next but one ahead got a bad start and then the car ahead of me moved right to avoid a rear end shunt and I tried to do the same. Unfortunately it was just as I needed to change up and I missed a gear.  I was left in neutral trying to find a gear and slowing considerably; not surprisingly I got rear ended (sorry Doni there was nothing you could do I'll submit a report). I needed a shift R and had to do a S&G at the end of lap 1.  I came out of the pits just behind Robert who had started from the pit lane.  To go on and win from there was a fantastic drive! Grats Rob.

I'd given up all hope of a result but I decided to press on.  For some reason I managed to catch Marco and Greg (they must have had some trouble, they were both faster than me) and had a great battle with them until they both went off at the Parabolica.  I then set off after Sam and David.  They were having a great fight and I was just about to join in the fun when David had a spin.  That left Sam to chase down over the last few laps. We swapped places a few times but I just managed to stay ahead by a cars length over the finish line.  Some good clean enjoyable racing

I've still not fully mastered the right foot braking and clutch control with the H-Shifter but it is getting easier.  I wouldn't go back now, it feels so much more authentic and great fun.

I didn't think the car in front of us would slow so heavily into Para and managed to lock the rears up while avoiding him, I span as a result and you had no way of avoiding being clobbered by me - sorry

It was one of those races for me, I managed to go off into Para on the 2nd lap when I tried staying wide as I was convinced Clive was inside me ( I watched the replay and he wasn't. He was miles back giving me room!  ) - the car twitched and the effort of staying left while catching it was enough to put the rear wheel on the grass. I rejoined right on the outside and was hit - the replay is odd enough that I wonder if lag had some involvement in miss-reporting where my car was.

After that re-rejoin everything stayed quiet for me and I made my way back up through the pack until eventually I found myself behind Piero and with a massive gap back to 3rd. I'd been worrying over fuel levels around half distance and also had the engine somewhat toasty, with unhappy tires to-boot. So I decided to take it easy and simply draft him for 5 or 10 laps to let the car cool and the tires recover.
The plan was to then time a pass (I was certain after about 5 laps that he had a slower top speed out of draft than I did) so that I could pass him into a slow corner and then gain at least a little draft from a backmarker along the next straight in oder to let me break free.
It worked perfectly...
Or would have if I hadn't then missed my breaking point in Parabolica by about 50 meters while checking Piero was still a safe distance behind 

Another brief trip into the kitty litter and I found myself rejoining 400 Yds behind Robert with 3 to go and swearing loud enough that I'm fairly sure the neighbours heard 
After Piero span I found myself back in 2nd and on the last lap within spitting distance of Rob - I pulled in about 120 Yds I think in that lap was it just wasn't quite enough as I crossed the line less than half a second behind him.

Well done on a brilliant drive Rob and bad luck Piero.
Well driven to all the finishers.

Joined with less than 25 mins to go being reserve, I hope all full timers were on the grid as it was full house.

Was looking for some good fun, and that's what I got. Tweaking racesetup took too long and missed the start. Decided to try to make the best of it. Was a long way behind, up to 30s, but the cars in front dropped like flies. Didn't have to pass many on the track actually.

Some good fun with the likes of Dave Rainier and Andreas who were driving and racing real good! Bastian got caught out by me I think not knowing I was at the inside at Parabolica. Felt a slight nudge, but only saw in replay what happened...anyway that was a nice 4 car dice...almost passed 3 cars in one move, before Andreas rightfully defended his position   After that Dave Rainier was able to hang on to me for quite a while. He had real good topspeed as well...

Before I knew I was 3rd chasing the leaders down. Tim seemed about to have about the same pace as me in clean air and caught Piero. After some laps Tim got stuck in the gravel at Parabolica, and I caught up with Piero in the penultimate lap, with Tim also closing in. I think I surprised Piero, he went wide at Lesmo 2, and I had a better exit and momentum. Threw the dummy to the right and went left before Ascari. Cleared him at the straight, stayed left and was able to outbrake him. Was pretty stoked with that move for the lead. Also thanks to Piero for the racing room.

As Piero lost it half, Tim went by and he was on fire. He almost caught me in the last lap, but ran out of a lap to pass me. He was way better in Curva Grande and had a real slick car it seemed, especially when towing him.

Good job and grats Tim for laprecords, really fast even with tow. Also well done Piero, who must feel disappointed leading so much, and well done finishers. Commiserations for all the retirements...

Dean, I'm very ashamed to bounce you out again.
here is what i wrote in the incident report.

The rest of the race was fun with fighting especially S. Blood,
but i have to look at some things within the next days as well.

Generally i lost my Concentration around Lap 25 and fell back form 6th to 12th.

My Fault. I was distracted by the guys in the gravel when i realised too late dean was slower in parabolica then usual. I would have to hit the brakes so hard i would have spun, so by reflex i stepped inside where there was not enough space for me and dean got turned upside down. i'm really sorry.

A slower start than Phil and got a grandstand view of his acko with Doni which I managed to avoid and joined the train behind 2 Davids C&R . Not so much luck with lap2 however at curva grand when the lady singled me out for a wheel change , I tried to avoid everyone by taking to the grass but got caught by someones front wheel which launched me into the barrier , I think I was the only car involved who was unable to drive away free without any damage , amazing when you see the contortions of some of the cars who got away unscathed and able to drive away . After my re- set & pit stop I was now playing the lone ranger for many many boring laps until the usual lappery began , I had to wait many many laps before I could get a bit of a tow from the leaders ( where are these fast guys when you need them ) that got me a place or two and almost caught Dave C up for a last lap sprint to the finish  . Madly exiting race once again 

Great to have full grids at Monza a favorite track of mine , the track is a great leveler with the slipstream escp. in 69x mod , but without "the tow" you are always going to be going backwards .

Grats to all the Aliens standing on the podium and to those mere mortals who finished with all there hub caps and mirrors in place

Very frustrating race for me, after a nice battle with Andreas, I was 4th during several laps, thanks to Robert's tow (the final winner !!!) until I lost time, was a victim of Sam's spin and finally blew up my engine.

and we were 19 at the start, yesterday evening !!
I just hope there was nobody unable to join.

At Monza, my car lacked one important item, speed.  So realistically, the best I could hope for, was a top ten finish.  Reached as high as 5th in the early going, and with no major blockages along the way.  There is hope for us all.

A careless spin put me into the clutches of a rampant rear guard, and recovering front runners who I hoped to latch onto, but instead disassembled my 12 cylinders, in front of the main grandstands.  Tifosi were not amused!  For the race remainder, I tried to circulate inconspicuously.  May have to return disguised as a faster driver next time, or risk a lynching.  Grumble . . . grumble!

I apologise for that Dave. Normally I can keep the back end of the 69 cars in-check, but unfortunately on that particular lap it got away from me and collected you in the process  .

As for my race, the first few laps went swimmingly. I was up to 3rd chasing down Clive & Ray until they had a coming together at the Parabolica. I got caught up in the crash and gave the barrier an almighty clout. Quite amazed it didn't rip a wheel off.

Having said this, while all four wheels were still on the car it soon became apparent the engine was down on power and at Monza I was a sitting duck and dropped down the field as quickly as an anvil in free fall. In hindsight, a shift-r and stop go would have been a faster strategy.

I managed a couple of spirited battles with Dave and Phil at least. The tow helping me keep up with them despite my engine's struggles. Couldn't quite keep in front of Phil for 6th but have to be reasonably satisfied with the result. Congrats to all finishers  .

No problem Clive, great racing up to that point with yourself and Axel. I thought we had a gap between us but the GPL gods demanded we do the dance of death. You seemed to come off worse but nice to see you recovered well. Like wise Piero. We were having a great scrap until I got it wrong in Curva Grande.... again! I forgot there was a shift-r on offer and quit, my bad.
