Moderator's Report

Summary

Sam started on pole followed by Greg and Axel. There were two incidents in the red zone. This allowed Sam, Greg and Dean to break away from the field after only the first lap. There were some great battles throughout the field. Sam was the leader for the first 24 laps. Greg was able to overtake him on lap 14, but he fell off track on the same lap. Greg was a little quicker today, and he retook the lead on lap 25, led the remainder of the laps and won the race. Sam finished second after a very well run race. Dean was third, and he did a good job pressuring the leaders.

Server replay time: 0h00m57s

Lap 1 – Turn 3 – Red Zone - Rear end shunt. Axel was too fast out of T2 and drifting to the right side where this infamous armco sits. Axel had to lift and this caught out Dean following him. Dean rear ends Axel, and is able to keep going. Axel spins and looses a wheel. Tim mentioned/reported he was rearended in the aftermath of Axel/Dean incident but it has to be a consequence of the initial incident. When you are accelerating in a curvy part it's very hard to anticipate slow cars or wrecks.

The victim was in full control but braked early compared with the average for the division. The shunter had not followed the victim at a safe distance for a lap or two. The shunter was in full control. The victim stated that he prefer that no penalty is given. However this is a red zone incident. Eight cars were affected, and four had to use a shift-R. So there will be a penalty, but it will be reduced to only one place even though it is the red zone.

Server replay time: 0h01m25s

Lap 1 – Back straight near the loop (turn 4) - Red zone - Rear end shunt - Piero and Tim both recovered from the first incident. Tim rejoined slightly behind but with the jump on Piero. Tim moved to the right. He pulled alongside Piero. Piero did not see Tim in his mirror, and he moved to the right also. Tim had to put two wheels on the grass to avoid contact. Piero was able to pull ahead of Tim now. Piero braked shortly after Tim regained control on the tarmac. Piero was in the middle of the track. Tim had no chance of avoiding him at this point. Tim's left front touched Piero's right rear. Both cars spun without hitting or damaging anything. In hindsight, Tim only needed to wait for Piero to make his stop & go to overtake him.

In all cases, the following car is responsible for maintaining a safe gap and the driver needs to be cognizant of the possibility of the lead car slowing for no apparent reason. In this scenario, the victim was in full control but braked early compared with the average for the division. The shunter had not followed the victim at a safe distance for a lap or two. The shunter had lost control on the approach to the braking zone and consequently braked later than intended. The 1 + 1 penalty for being in the redzone is reduced because Tim was not in full control, and the consequences this time were minor.

Quite an interesting race for me.

Selected the Macca M9A as it looked like it ought to be quite fast??  Light weight, huge rear wing...what can possibly be bad about it??

After a few practice laps I was getting increasingly depressed, I just could not get any speed out of this car!! taz Eventually I reduced the wings and upped the gear ratios so that I could use 1st gear out of The 90, somewhere I usually expect to sweep through in 2nd!!
After much adjustment of ratios and diffs I was able to remove toe in and toe out to gain a few more mph. Then I started trimming off wing angles to gain a few more mph's until the car was just about driveable, but still only in the mid 1:03's!!!
Sure enough the fast brigade were clocking 1:01's in qually and I was not going to be bothering them unless they made some serious and regular mistakes.
The start was a little scary when the grid had to find a way around a slow Marco??? who I see had blown his engine. I confess I held my breath through the fisrt part of the Esses waiting for contact...but woohoo untouched.
Then, there were yellow flags waving, and as I took the right hander onto the straight there were cars everywhere, even in the air!!! so i just aimed for the middle and backed right off the gas, figuring that you aim for where the cars are,cuz they won't be there when you arrive!!....................It worked LOL and I emerged onto an empty straight  having gone from 9th to 4th in 50mtrs!!

No point in waiting for a medal, so I nailed the gas hoping to get a tow from the fast guys. Huh!!! some chance!! when I exited The Loop they were already out of sight!!.

I just pushed as hard as I could trying to hold onto 4th place. Eventually Andreas hauled me in with his Matra and it was very claer that he had much more downforce in the corners than I did. But because I was geared for speed he could not get past on the straights even with the slipstream. So, for many laps I had a Matra sat on my tail, just waiting for a mistake from me.
Andreas just would not go away and every time that I pulled out a few metres of breathing space he closed up again at The Loop!! Then he made a mistake and ran off the track, so I pushed as hard as I could to build a gap.
Then a recovering Axel caught and passed me in his quick Matra and I was demoted to 5th place. I had no answer to the speed of his car even though I had the same engine... Undecided.

Slowly, lap by lap, Andreas was eating away at my lead as he too recovered from his off. Eventuall he was back on my tail and I was driving at 110% in every corner and trying to hold the racing line. Once or twice he got alongside out of The Loop but I had just a fraction more straight line pace to get ahead again  Shocked

Apologies to Greg at this point because I saw Andreas run wide in my mirrors and thought " At last I can relax again". Then suddenly there was a Matra on my tail again??!! How the hell did Andreas catch me that quickly??
But I glance at Prib 2 corners later told me it was Greg and not Andreas. then i was prepared for Samb and Dean when they caught me and was able to move over .

Once I had been lapped i was able to cruise to the flag and collect 5th spot. Not too bad for a car that was at least 2 seconds down on pace  Wink.

Big thanks to Andreas for resisting the urge to make a desperate move to get past a very wide and slow McLaren, and grats to Greg, Sam and Dean for the stunning pace up front.

Clive,
the McL M9a has the bad acceleration by +52kg they implemented in "4WD" cars Roll Eyes
In sheer top speed it is unbeateable!

I used the McL M7 wich has also good top speed with ~ 7° wing settings with an extra long 5th gear Wink

Dean,
I had gone a little wide in T2 and had the dangerous edge of the armco to avoid, this made me lift, so imho it was a 50:50 RI.

Marco, you allways have to control the gas consumption yourself!

The 69X setup allways takes too much fuel per lap! for WG I calculated 1.9 litres per lap so 88l was good for me Wink

The sport cars calculate way too much!
The F2 calculates not enough! so you need more ~ 2-3 laps fuel Wink

............I ran 30fps despite 60ffpsV1.........

Your computer must have been struggling to run GPL at a steady 60fps. With Vsync turned on, it will cut the frame rate in half if the computer can't maintain close to 60fps. Try reducing your Antialiasing settings and Anisotrophic Filtering, turn off the internet meter (Alt+M), display less information in pribluda, and you can turn off some of the textures in your mirrors in GPL options. I don't use specular highlights and dynamic lighting in GPL options. Here are my settings in GPL :

You have to calculate fuel consumption on the track. GPL's setup seems to overestimate fuel consumption in the 69Xs.

No problem Clive. I thought it was an excellent move on your part. Smiley I thought you would let me by between Big Bend and the 90 or after the 90. I had slowed a little more than usual for Big Bend. When you made a wide entrance, it gave me a fraction of a second to see I could pass. Being a tiny bit slower than usual I knew I could stick the car on the inside and use full throttle.

I thought all the lapped cars behaved well as they usually do. I was caught off guard a little bit by being allowed to pass sooner than I expected. I got much closer to Marco than I liked when he slowed sooner than I was expecting, to let me pass. The only reason I had any trouble with Tim and Bastian was they were in a heated battle when I caught them and I just happened to be unlucky I caught Bastian entering the Loop. I was trying to be patient with them even though I was a little worried it might allow Sam to get in my slipstream. It was good discipline on my part. I was concentrating almost fully on the immediate task with little thought about anything else.

I recomment for drivers with low spec pc's to use the original Papy track version for 60fps online races!

Greg, you use D3D7V2  Shocked

OGLV2 works imho much better today! All my proposals are for OGL!

I had another scare late in the race lapping Tim and Bastian. Tim let me by easily and I caught Bastian entering the Loop. Bastian slid wide and I tried to get inside but my car kept sliding to the left. I had to slow so much to keep from hitting Bastian that it almost got Tim out of shape. Sorry Tim.

Thanks guys. That was good fun.

Sorry, i just realised end of the loop that you aren't Tim but the leader.
I'm listed with two cars again, because i changed the disturbing wing graphics. didn't know its counted as different cars...

The rest of the race was quite calm.

thx for orga and racing.

No problem Bastian, you kept the same car, but GPL seemed to give you a new slot.
