Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Dave Rainier wins the race in the Lotus, after a fierce late race and championship deciding fight with Axel "Cookie" Koch. Axel, who ran a Brabham on this occasion, had to settle for second after starting from Pole, leading most laps and setting fastest lap. A slight contact put Axel off, but to be fair Dave Rainier did nothing wrong and kept a cool head. Over the whole Season Axel has shown great speed in the Honda, but was unlucky with engine failures. Dave Rainier is always a smart, solid and consistent driver, a very well deserved Champion. Congratulations to both for a great season!

Billy Nobrakes finishes third in the race, recovering from an off after the start, being the most consistent driver of the race. Well done. Michael Turner finishes an excellent fourth, his fourth of the Season, cementing his fifth spot in the Championship. Dave Curtis finishes fifth in the race, and third in the Championship despite missing a race. Very consistent Championship by him, always in the top 5. Solid debut by Ronnie Nilsson who suffered from quite some bad luck, but soldiered on to claim sixth spot in the race. Martin "Maddog" Hunt had to settle for seventh, after an eventful race, having ran in third initially. Philippe Girard was the last points scorer, and Francesco, Bernie and Walter retired before halfway. Commisserations.

No incidents in the Red Zone. Billy went off, and there were a couple of passes, and especially Ronnie Nilsson did a great job being aware, and giving room. Well done guys. Ronnie did report three incidents, thanks. For Fran his attempted Pit Stop resulted in retirement sadly, the other Pit Stops were performed correctly.

Server replay time: 0h22m15s

Martin tries to force a pass in a difficult place, Ronnie is slower and goes slightly wide, but there is hardly a gap. On the server replay there is also quite some lag involved. Arguably the cars would have made real contact anyway. Ronnie does nothing wrong, he might be slower and gotten slightly off the line, but it was a rather ambitious attempt to overtake. Ronnie felt like being the victim and didn't ask for a penalty.

Martin followed Ronnie for exactly one lap before the incident. However, he still should have showed more patience. Especially when the driver you are racing is not a familiar foe.

Server replay time: 0h36m21s

Ronnie runs into Martin who rejoins the track after a spin. This was a bad rejoin with contact as a result. We like to believe that Martin could not find the brake pedal in time to stop his car. Martin could have easily avoided this mess if he was more careful. He would not have needed Prib to see Ronnie in this incident.

Server replay time: 0h46m04s

Ronnie is being rearended by Dave Curtis, who tries to pass him in the hairpin. Bad place to force a pass. Ronnie didn't ask for a penalty, but clearly was the victim.

Dave follows Ronnie for exactly one lap before the incident. We should drive more cautiously around our competitors at least until we have followed them for more than one lap.

I am gutted after being called away from the computer for a couple minutes, and GPL retires me from the race. I had hoped that the game would have given me more time.  Positively great fun while it lasted. I love driving the 67 F1's around this track.

Next time, I'll see if my wife can drive slowly along pit lane for me if I have to step away from the computer.  laugh

*I returned to computer to watch a little of the on track action. I saw some incredibly close (perhaps too close) racing between the two championship leaders on lap 15 and 16. Nice battle, I didn't want for it to end.

My qualifying lap of 2:57.xx was a PB. For the race I tried to simply stay out of trouble, knowing that most of the field were faster.  I largely kept my nose clean, but I must apologise to the Cooper (?) who tried to undertake me at the tightest corner - I really didn't think that was an overtaking spot, so sorry I chopped in front of you.  I finished 6th on my return. Have you tried getting in to chat via WinVROC - often works when iGOR has a problem...

I actually got in before the race!  However, afterwards, I couldn't get in - it's odd.

Happy to see you could race RN, and no problem here.  Wink After 3 laps I realized I could not catch the championship leaders, so good to get some close racing.  At big races, chat is only for emergency - a small emergency allows a small chat.

Thought each driver  has to deduct  2 lowest scores  ?

If so that makes Axel champ unless I'm missing something here  Roll Eyes

In either case congrats to the Champ  thumbup2

Bernie - ok, so all pre-moderation of course;  but looks as though Axel had 2x non-scoring rounds;  so nothing to drop.
Dave had 1x non-scoring round,   but does drop his RELATIVELY  pathetic 8th place at Silverstone Smiley
note:  I say relatively; as all the other scores were wins/podium-finishes!

Congrats that man!
Although from the start of the season;  it was becoming clear that Dave & Axel would be fighting it out for the championship. Rocket pace!

Cheers,
Dave.

Congratulations to David & Cookie on a closely contested championship. It's been interesting competing against you guys on the tracks where you were taking to slower cars, last night wasn't one of those evenings.
Sorry to Martin for the contact about half way through. There was a close midfield battle with you, Mike & Ronnie. I suspect there was some tangle between you & Ronnie & you went very wide through one of the slow corners. Unfortunately the door was closing as I took a line up the inside.
Good to see a new face on the grid & looking forward to racing with Ronnie next season.
Well done To Dave C, just edged me out on 3rd place in the championship.

Same applies as above Billy.  I really left you with nowhere to go.  The general standard of driving has improved hugely, and I didn't notice any punch-ups at race end. Cool

Thanks Bernie. Smiley I know, it’s crazy how long I’ve been away.  No other game has ever captured my imagination like GPL, and it’s great to be back.  Obviously, I remember Bernie and Clive.  Wonder what happened to other stalwarts such as Dave Wilkinson, Nathan, Mark P, etc.

Quote
Scoring Scheme
Must complete 50% of largest number of laps (rounded up) complete to score
Best 8 scores count
Points: 50, 43, 37, 32, 28, 25, 23, 21, 19, 17, 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1
Each driver gets 10 tokens for each race that they start.
For a driver's first race, they get 5 extra tokens, or double that if the event is in the first half of the season.
Any driver who spends more than their available tokens is disqualified from that race.

Please explain , according to the rules above

best 8 of 10 scores to count
So :-
David drops lowest score of 21 points leaves him with(366 - 21 ) = 345
Axel has only 8 finishes so no points to drop from his final score =  352

Scratches head !
