Moderator's Report

Summary

Andreas starts on pole, but is overtaken quickly by Clive and then Dean. Together with Greg, the group went four abreast down the front stretch into turn one. Dean performed a whole shot by moving from the fifth spot on the grid to the lead in turn one! Clive conceded the position, and held on to second place for now. Martin pulls along the inside of Andreas in turn one. Andreas holds the outside line beautifully, and is now on the inside for turn two. Martin puts two wheels on the grass at the exit of turn two. This causes his car to wiggle, and make contact with Andreas. The contact looked to be outside of the redzone. Greg also lost some positions while trying to hold the outside line through turn one. Dean is able to hold off a very fast Clive for six laps until he runs out of fuel! Thus giving Clive a comfortable lead. Andreas is able to recover most of the positions that he lost en route to a second place finish. Martin rounded out the podium. Martin was the first and only Heavy driver to finish on the podium.

Server replay time: 0h49m15s

Lap 28 – Eses – Ambitious overtake - The last lap of the race. Ronnie Nilsson saw and heard a faster car behind him at the hairpin. He watched for blue flags, but did not see any. Andreas caught him quickly. Andreas saw a gap mid corner in the Eses, and he thought that Ronnie was letting him past. However, Ronnie did not see or hear Andreas while in the Eses until the moment of impact. Andreas' right front touches the left rear on Ronnie. Ronnie's car flips. He uses a shift-R, but is not able to perform a stop & go before the finish line.

Advice for the lapped driver: Lapped drivers should avoid holding up the leaders. As soon as they notice they should give room, not necessarily wait for a blue flag that is not always given in the game. If you watch the replay, you will see that the mirrors give limited visibility of the lapping car. So pribluda is the best way to determine the closing rate of the leaders. When approached by a faster car, initially just hold your line to prevent any confusion. As you brake for a corner stay well to the outside during the braking stage, then deliberately run right around the outside of the corner allowing the faster driver to pass on the inside line. Of course, this is easier said than done. Regarding the Stop & Go, you would have saved a little time if you performed the stop & go in the pitlane before crossing the finish line. Last lap SHIFT-R gains a 15 second penalty if a Stop is not possible.

Advice for the lapping driver: The key to determining whether an incident is an ambitious overtake or not is simply down to how far back the overtaking driver was when he began the move and whether he achieved some overlap at turn-in. If you cannot see any guaranteed clean route to pass the driver then be patient and follow them. Warping will also mean that you may need to leave extra room. In this scenario, Andreas is correct to expect Ronnie to allow him to pass as soon as possible. However, the lapped driver does not always see the lapping car right away especially while driving through a series of corners. Make your car visible in the lapped car's mirrors. Being the last lap, with no other cars for position around, Andreas should have been thinking about self preservation.

Mclaren  M9 It was the fastest on the runway(300-305 Km/h), then it s very difficult to overtake  on the straight.

I do beg your pardon - I didn't see a blue flag.  I heard/saw you at the hairpin, so was keeping my eyes open for the flags, but you were probably so much faster than me, that I didn't hear or see you right behind me.  I do apologise.

Well you did better than me , I forgot shift R was allowed and retired , not that it would have made much difference I,m crap at 69 X stuff  Grin Grin Grin

The end of the Season has arrived, so there's some good racing to be had.  It was Pizza night, in honour of my Ferrari, which helped to spice things up on lap 1.

A good 1st corner, but there's a nasty patch of grass exiting the first complex, which flung my car slightly towards Andreas, which then caused my friendly neighbour to experience a more exciting race.  I was pleased to see his recovery, until he past me at two thirds distance, because he then lead me back onto the same spot, where this time, the wretched grass spun me around backwards!  Grumble!

Great to have a good handling car, and be equipped to do battle with some of our finest.  I'd gladly take a podium every time, if it weren't so heavy.  blink

May I suggest that we have a race or two for the non-winged cars in the off season? They're great fun to drive and should be less of a crash-fest than the winged stuff as speeds are kept down - We also have have the Eagle to use as a BT7 replacement Wink

I'm up for it!  Grin

I have to confess to being totally gobsmacked when an Orange McLaren appeared alongside me running down to T1 after the start!!! Shocked Shocked I was expecting to see Andreas's Brabham ease past me....

Well I had a bad start and after Martin decided to flung towards my car I was back to 12th spot or something. So I had an eventful race.  Smiley

Congratulations to Clive for the Race-win and to Tim on the Championship!
Was a real good season which I enjoyed very much!

Moderation published. I'd like to thank Clive and Robert for giving me feedback on this report.

Thanks all for letting me serve as your moderator this season. It has been a good experience. I've learned that I still have a lot more to learn. Ultimately, I have a greater appreciation for the people who make the UKGPL such a great place to race. I am glad that I was able to help out for a little while. Like Robert said, many hands makes lighter work.
