S28 -Tasman Trophy - Round 5 - 67 Formula 2 - Bathurst - Mt Panorama

Just for fun and to give the F2's a chance to stretch their legs again we are running a short series based upon the Tasman series that used to run down in the Antipodies. There will be 5 races, all on Aussie or New Zealand circuits, some of which might be new to you but almost all of them are easy to learn. There will be 4 short sprint races of 30 minutes and a 45 minute race to finish up with.
First race is Tuesday 1st September and the plan is to run these races on    Tuesdays and Fridays    for the next couple of weeks.

PLEASE NOTE THE CAR LIMITS FOR THE LIGHT DRIVERS AND EVEN THE HEAVIES HAVE TO PLAN, AS THEY CAN ONLY USE CARS ONCE....  If this proves exceptionally popular and the next season's preparations are not quite ready we might add more races........

OK guys !!

Back from Goodwood  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Thought that we all might need some action so....... the Tasman series continues with a longer race at Bathurst.

As we are still sorting the next season, there might be a a few more F2 races still to come.  Wink Wink Wink

Is this round 4 or round 5?

This is the 5th race?

If so I thought it was a longer race?

Just an observation not a complaint.

As this might be , or might not be, the last race..... it is not too long, but with 20 laps at around 2:00 per lap it is just a little longer than previous rounds.

Maybe I have lost count after a weekend sniffing burning rubber and Castrol R so this is probably round 4 pretending to be round 5.

Pointless staying in the race. I had better lap times than a few of my fellow backmarkers but with a nigh-40Bhp deficit (Which I only just found out about  Roll Eyes ) and the wrong race setup loaded I was a sitting duck onto the two big straights.
Attempting to stay close enough to outbrake people was a waste of time for the same reason.

I think I rear ended Fran 2 or 3 times just from running close enough to take advantage of any decent sized mistakes he might make - Sorry Fran.
I quit in disgust before I could ruin yours or anyone else's night further  Sad

No problem but a little fastidious after the first Grin.I was not the faster on the streight but you was the slower.
I was surprised about your difficult to overtake me on the streight.

A great battle with Tris for many laps, from the very first lap he was setting a fast pace and I had to risk a lot until my tyres warmed up. His Lotus had that extra punch out of the slower corners, but somehow I was able to regain some time under braking in the heavier Lola BMW
For lap after lap we were barely a second apart and I was trying different lines to get close to Tristan's tail as we entered Conrod Straight, and I'm sure that Tris was trying just as hard to keep me away!
I knew that I could pass him with a little slipstream and it was likely to be decided on the last lap, so each lap was a rehearsal for that. Well it was until I tried getting on the gas a fraction earlier and put a rear wheel a little too wide and clipped the armco spinning the car around and allowing Tris to escape.
After that it was clear that I would not catch Tristan unless he made a mistake, and now he had no pressure to force any errors, so it was a cruise to the flag and second place.
Grats to Ronnie on a solid third place and to all finishers.

Grats to Ronnie on a solid third place and to all finishers.

That third spot was only secured after what I think was a very sporting gesture on the part of Roberto.

I simply did not have the gearing or pace to keep up with Tristan and yourself. Once I lost the tow you were both gone. After a few errors and some traffic, Roberto closed me down rapidly and we duelled over the last few laps. It came down to the last corner. I chose the defensive inside leaving him the outside line. He nearly made it work but was unlucky to spin into my path as he got the power down. However from where I was sitting he appeared to wait for me to recover and cross the line ahead of him when he could have easily claimed the final podium spot himself. If that was the case thank you.

Grats again to yourself and Tristan and everyone else racing. Good series Clive.
