Season 29 - Friday Sport Car Trophy - Round 2 - ZeltwegThe second race at Zeltweg - the original Österreichring. Built in 1969 to replace the bland and bumpy Zeltweg Airfield circuit, the track was known for being very fast, as every corner was a fast sweeper and taken in no lower than 3rd gear in a 5-speed gearbox and 4th in a 6-speed gearbox. There are also noticeable changes in elevation during the course of a lap which means the downhill sections are even faster. Like most fast circuits it was a hard circuit on engines and even harder on tyres simply because the speeds were so consistently high. In S29 we will race F2 and Sport Car mods alternating. This Trophy is intented as a fun series, so keep the fairness high and respect drivers with different skills. Handicapping:Heavies - have allways free car choice. Lights - each F2 car can be used only once! Only one GT can be used twice! Any illegal use of a car will be a DQ! So make shure you have a plan Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score. ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps. Please check the Season 29 pages for details regarding rules and the Friday Trophy pages in particular. Race List | = | IGOR | Server | = | UKGPL_8 | IP Address | = | look at IGOR | Race date | = | 16-10-2015 | | GPL mod | = | 67 SC | 60fps patch used | = | 60fpsV1 | Track dir | = | Zeltw71 | Qualification | = | 20:45 UK time -> 45min | Race | = | race starts at ~21:30 UK time | Race length | = | ~45 min -> 24 laps | Damage Model | = | INT | Replay | = | you will get here |
Please restrict chat to emergency messages only, including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line. Using the "no letterbox" patch makes chat messages in car obsolete, so you better uncheck it in GPL options There will be moderation only for reported incidents. Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race. GLA and have FUN

I'd just like to point out that I drove the Lotus 48 last week, and not the 41B . Tommie.

Yeah Tommie, that's the GPLRA not recognizing the F2 mod correctly and giving strange makes of TC and other mods...

Sorry Taber, despite the virtual mirror applied i see nothing behind,i was conviced to have only one car in the rear understood for the blue flag and the rumor. After the first Ferrari i was convinced to have done the work. Now i must investigate why my max speed was 269 km/h and the other Ferrari 287km/h.

Great race early on with Dave C and others. The fun could have lasted longer if Fran's and David R.'s engines hadn't expired so soon. Near the end, I made an error while looking up at prib, and lost a position to the faster Bastian. Good race, but could have been better if I had made Bastian work for the position. I was using Cookie's Edmonton setup for the Chap 2F, and consequently, I was very happy behind the wheel!
Thanks all, Walter

After a check with replay analiser and in comparison with M.Jones,my car have lost 10km in max.speed. Max speed of Jones Ferrari 290,my Ferrari in qualy 280 but only 270 in race and in the final part of the race with low fuel. The strange is that into the curve i gain something in time in comparison with Jones but i lose all in the straight. The comparison is between my best qualy lap(1:5130) and a race lap of Jones of 1:4871.Seem that the car of Jones have better acceleration. Anyway remain unexplained the further loss of performance during the race. Axel or someother have an explanation?

Fran do you still use the Momo pedals? They are known for loosing the the top of the throttle (~5%) Look for dxtweak2 where you can see and tweak the axis My ChapD was not as fast as the Ferraris, so I had to push hard wich caused an engine blow...

Fran do you still use the Momo pedals? No ,i use the Momo steering wheel with the faster pedal and the Act-labs shifter. I have lost my engine after only 3 laps and without push hard if we think to the low acceleration during the race.

Fran: I loaded the fast laps from you, Mark, and me into GPLRA and noticed that your gearing seems way too long (you're not getting into the power in 5th gear especially). You top out about 7500rpm, Mark at about 8000, and I was pulling all the way to 8400 (with a 5kph advantage at the end of the back straight over Mark). 8400 is past the claimed power peak of the Ferrari, but there's still useable power there.
If you have time, try it again with these ratios (that I used yesterday):
Gear Gearing Final Drive Ratio 1 15/38 8.233 2 16/28 5.688 3 24/34 4.604 4 26/31 3.875 5 30/32 3.468 differential ratio 12/39
note: 1st and 2nd are only used for the start, from there it's all 3rd and up.

Thank you for the suggestion Logan,i tought the same but remain unexplained the max.speed lost during the race. I feel, during the race, less power in my car.

Good stuff, I really enjoyed that. Old Fezzah felt nicely hooked up and stable. Thanks to everyone for the racing.
Francesco, if your focusing on a particular corner onto a straight, it could be a case where I compromise the entry into a corner a little to get a faster run out of the exit and down the following straight.

Fran - below is taken from the server replay. Presumably with stop & go in there, you were not able to get a clean/full power lap before the 2nd engine problem? 3m03.960s franGT Molteni - spotters reporting: the car has an engine problem. 5m35.960s franGT Molteni - spotters reporting: the engine problem is getting worse. 5m51.960s franGT Molteni makes a Shift-R? (detection method A - mech problems fixed) 9m51.960s franGT Molteni - spotters reporting: the car has an engine problem. Lucky you did not take the 910, or you'd have been scuppered Although, Pro/Works Dave seemed to do ok by comparison in his! Cheers, Dave.

Well spotted Dave! Allow me to jump in, and confirm Fran's gear change problems stretch back a long way, along with the innards no longer attached. Rev counter and sound are obvious clues as to abuse. Cause may be mechanical or biological, but the outcoming remains the same. Most here will know that regular passenger cars, were built with motors which maxed out before revs could do damage. Racing motors were not. It was when electronic, computer controlled motors arrived, that rev limiters arrived in racing machinery. Until then, better hand, foot, eye, ear, co-ordination might help innards to remain inward.

Francesco, if your focusing on a particular corner onto a straight, it could be a case where I compromise the entry into a corner a little to get a faster run out of the exit and down the following straight. No was on the entire lap and in any curve the gap dcrease slightly. also with the gear rati suggested by Logan the max. speed is 280 against 290,so i start to think that is a problem of potentiometer.Suspected also in other races. Fran - below is taken from the server replay. Presumably with stop & go in there, you were not able to get a clean/full power lap before the 2nd engine problem?
You mean that after the shift_R the engine was not OK?Could be an explanation for the max.speed dropped to 270. If i have problem with the potentiometer and than there is also engine not OK i think to finish all the race in the last position

I don't know if i have well understood how work the program but after a check with dxtweak2(thank Axel) i discover that my gas pedal had a value of 0 but sometime (after usig the gas) don't return to 0 but remain at 1800. After the correction of the center the value return to 238.Could be this the explanation of my problem with engine? If sometime the value doesnot return to 0 the car remain accelerate also if i release the gas.
