Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Dave Curtis wins, running a flawless and very consistent race in the Eagle, congratulations! Francesco, who started from Pole finishes second in the Eagle. A spin on Lap 7 gave Dave the lead. Great drive nevertheless, Fran. Philippe Girard rounds out the podium in a Brabham, starting from P11. Well done!

One incident was reported, and no Incorrect Pit Stops were detected.

Server replay time: 0h00m10s

Michael Turner initially stalls after the start, and then has a slow getaway. Phil has a good reaction and can drive alongside Michael on the right side. Then Michael has wheelspin and moves to the right, leaving Phil little space. Michael keeps a straight line after that, and Phil slightly moves to the left and both cars touch. Michael can continue. Phil spins, but also can continue despite losing some time.

Michael stated he knew Phil was on his right, but wasn't aware of the massive space on the left. Phil felt being squeezed, especially when there was so much room on the left of the track. To be fair, Michael could have given Phil more room, especially after getting wheelspin and moving to the right. Since Michael wasn't aware of what was going on to the left, he didn't give Phil much room to play with. Despite Phil ever so slightly moving to the left, it's hard to put the blame on Phil. As he stated it's real hard to keep a perfectly straight line from the cockpit view.

Both drivers tried to keep a straight line, but some drift was unavoidable and given the proximity of the cars after Michael's wheelspin, contact was inevitable. This has to be a Contested Side by Side contact: Racing Incident.

In a corner (or on a straight), after a legitimate overtaking attempt the cars end up side by side. Both drivers move over instead of staying on their own side of the track. Contact is made. Racing Incident.

ADVICE

Michael should have been aware of the room at the left, by using left side view for example. Since it was Michael that initially moved over, by having wheelspin, the possibility of contact increased. Please try to be aware of cars around you, and give cars alongside enough room. Phil could have maintained a slightly straighter line.

Season 29 Privateers Trophy - Round 02 - Brainerd

Brainerd International Raceway (Donnybrooke 1971) is a 3.1-mile (4.989 km) road course, dragstrip and kart track near Brainerd, Minnesota, USA. The raceway hosts the National Hot Rod Association's Lucas Oil Nationals. It is a popular racetrack for the Trans Am Series. The spectator seating capacity of the circuit is 20,000.

Opened in 1968 as Donnybrooke Speedway there were no safety barriers, run-out areas, grandstands or even restrooms. George Montgomery and Bud Stall cleared the racetrack through a wooded area on the south side of North Long Lake. With the help of St Paul Sports Promoter Dennis Scanlan It hosted a 2 heat USAC Indy Car race in 1969. The heats were won by Gordon Johncock and Dan Gurney.

In 1973 Jerry Hansen bought the track and renamed it Brainerd International Raceway. It played host to CanAm races in 1970, 1971, and 1972. These races were won by, respectively, Denny Hulme, Peter Revson, and François Cevert.

Please take care joining the track in quali, as you will enter on the racing line!

We ask the drivers to be careful at the start, stick to their own side until they know it is safe to move over, don't take unnecessary risks and if the car ahead slows, be prepared to slow too if it is not safe to make a pass!

After this race i'm schoked by the engine reliability.Could be possible that with dxtweak2 i have solved my problem with engine explosion? We look at the next race!
I am satisfied from the result also if a stupid error has cost me the first position.Anyway my compliment to D.Curtis for the fast laps and costancy without error.

If you are not over-revving the engine when you change up then it looks like dxtweak2 has fixed your pedals (and hence your engine reliability problems).

Great result Fran.  On this form you have a good chance of winning a few races this season!

Whilst I think this is a good circuit (especially turn 1!), I really struggled with it.  I tried most of the chassis when practising, but found that I was only 1 second faster in the Lotus than in the Honda.  Roll Eyes So, to save tokens, I stuck with the Honda.  I was aiming for a 6th, but could only manage a 7th.  Oh well.

Congrats Dave, Fran and Philippe!

I enjoyed racing with you all very much today. I used a GH BRM setup for Nurb, and I had a very well behaved car on corner exit! I benefitted from others having bad luck at the start. I was slower during the first half of the race, and they caught back up to me quickly. I felt much more competitive in the second half. I closed in on some people that had overtook me in the early going. I raced side by side with Phil. I found out that it is difficult to keep to one side of track. I hope that I did not hog too much of the track. I'll watch the replay to see if I can improve in the future. I was near Bastian late in the race, but I had a spin that cost me some ground. I finished much better than I had predicted anyhow. The next race will be harder for me because I might use the Lotus, and consequently I'll make more mistakes.

Popped an  engine early on , took an age to re set and find the pits , re joined dead last , half a lap or more down on the next man , after that I lost the plot completely , just couldn't find a rythm and had a spinerama  fest almost every lap trying too hard to make up lost ground .

Grats to DC who was both fast and consistent,  well done to the podium and to all those who finished in one piece   Smiley

I think the Eagle-boys made a point tonight;   not sure exactly what - but that's probably it!

Not seen this track until the day of the event.  Luckily, I found myself with the house to myself for a couple of hours...
At first glance at the track layout -  some kind of possibly fast-ish right hand bend & some zigzags...  looks a bit like parts of Mexico... right?!
That's the setup sorted then.  Then had a quick look at GPLrank;  my fastest lap at Mexico =  Eagle!  Time to get some laps in Smiley

Did then have a potter round in the Honda with the 'same' setup [was unsure about spending the tokens on a unknown track]   but was 2.2 seconds slower;  so went with what Schuerkamp suggested.

Think my first timed practice laps put my in 4-5th.  Was happy with that.  Don't know where 2nd came from,  although missing a gear on the way to the finish line at the end of practice for a potential clincher did not help the cause.  ok, so maybe it would not have made up the full 0.8 s  Smiley

Was then a case of trying to have a tidy start, without slewing sideways & causing a bit pile-up. Tick!
Then trying to stay with Fran as we Eagles seemed able to break away slightly; then keep on doing so.

It seemed like a very long evening.  Following Fran [unlucky on the spin] as he did not seem to be making any mistakes.
Then alone in clear air & it's all slightly different.

Was expecting either the DSL to drop out again [one eye was on the other monitor with DSL status / pings / upstream bandwidth usage graph etc] or Windows to do something/lose sound & require another mouse-click.   Not for the 1st time today...

But just tried to keep it on-track & consistent; seemed to work out;  maybe the Eagle helped a bit of course.

Anyway, thanks for the run.
Of course; sounds as if the times that the real men set over in Works-land were really in another timezone!  1:34 with Pribluda suggested 1:33 ?!  Eeek!

Cheers.
Dave.

This track does have similarities with Mexico - too many slow corners for my liking. As I can't drive the BRM or Honda much above walking pace the Coop was the best option. P3 on the grid was as good as it got. Ran wide in T1, managed to claw back a few places until the Masersti power unit let go about midway. Last few laps were interesting chasing Michael but the harder I chased the faster he went. Well done to Dave for taking the chequered flag for the team.
