Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Bastian Grupp wins the race in a Brabham, leading from start to finish. Congratulations! Bill Nobrakes finishes second in an Eagle, and championship leader Dave Curtis rounds out the podium in a Brabham. Well done!

One incident was reported, no Incorrect Pit Stops were detected. In general a good consistent performance by most.

Server replay time: 0h01m16s

Fabio loses control in Barbeque Bend. He goes initially wide and then spins (half) back to the inside. Francesco who is following cannot avoid hitting Fabio despite trying to hold the inside.

This has to be a Racing Incident, since Fabio lost control, went wide, and then got back in Fran\'s path. There was no trying to defend the inside, it was just loss of control by Fabio.

Season 29 Privateers Trophy - Round 03 - Kyalami

For the third round of the season we go to a familiar track. Kyalami Racing Circuit (from Kyalami, My home in Zulu) is a motor racing circuit located in Midrand, Gauteng province, South Africa. The circuit has been used for Grand Prix and Formula One races and has hosted the South African Grand Prix many times. Among the Formula One races held at the track the 1977 South African Grand Prix stands out, as it is principally remembered for the fatal accident that claimed the lives of race marshal Frederick Jansen van Vuuren and driver Tom Pryce. In recent years, the area surrounding the circuit has developed into a residential and commercial suburb of Johannesburg.

IMPORTANT: it is policy of UKGPL to have the original pitstraight armco installed at this original track!

Race List = iGOR
Server = UKGPL_8

Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Papyrus Original

60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Dug this out of an old thread, for those who need it:

Quote
Follow these instructions to restore the wall if you have a mod that has removed it:
METHOD 1: To place a wall between the pits and the track, rename or remove the kyalami.trk and kyalami.3do files from your kyalami folder.
METHOD 2: To reinstall the original Papyrus Armco, rename or remove the Armco_s.mip file from your kyalami folder.

Drivers risk disqualification running without a pitwall.

Congrats Bastian & Billy.  After a few laps,  I couldn't see either of you!

Another few laps & Walter in his rocket ship would have been with me & up the road.  Man  - I was watching you; getting ever nearer - you popping in a few fastest laps in the process.  Was hoping that Fran & you were keeping each other busy Smiley

I did have a few minor excursions,  but luckily survived mostly intact.  Also missed a gear near the end which handed over 50yards or so.

I was convinced it was Mexico tonight!  Clearly confused myself & have some Mexican beer to finish off Smiley

Cheers all,
Dave.

Congrats Bastian, Billy and Dave!

I made a few routine mistakes in my race, but this time I have an excuse. I had company at the house, and I tried to keep up my end of the conversation while I raced. The person that came over to the house raced go karts back in the 1980's. So I think it was worth doing a demonstration.

I really enjoyed the race today. I give full credit for my result and FL to the fine Lotus that I was driving. I hope to continue this competitive streak.

Not so few Walter Grin.After you have overtaked me at least 3 mistake,with your speed and without mistake i think you could have gain the third or also the second position.
For me was only a race "to contain the damage",i'm not fast at Kialamy and my Brab. was without speed on the uphill,probably for a wrong gear setup.

According to GPL, I have driven 4 of the cars under 1.22 at Kyalami.  Unfortunately, that was 10 years ago, and in my practising during the week, I couldn't get below 1.24 in any of the chassis.  Roll Eyes  I decided to take the Brabham, which is my least favourite car, and a Chris Moses set up.  It felt like driving on ice, but I finally managed to break below 1.24 during race practice.

Is there some unseen bump in the braking zone for T1?  On lap 2, I inexpicably twitched during braking and went off.  I was hoping I hadn't damaged the car, but as the race went on, I went off under braking a couple of times, finally necessitating a reset.  After that, even staying on the same lap as everybody else was a pipe dream.  I trundled around as the last finisher, to get a few measley points.

Anyway, I now have enough points to take my favourite car to the Ring!  Grin

Not sure about a bump there but there is be a gradient + camber change which can catch you out , I think what happens is if you brake late and unsettle the rear with downshifting which tends to lock the rear axle due to the forward weight transfer. iyswim that + the Brabham can be a bit tail happy due to its short wheelbase . I find it best to brake a bit earlier and try to be smooth , more important is to get good exit speed from the corner than be last of the late brakers

Just tried the Moses set up and got down to 1m22's within half a dozen laps or so , but I did change the tyre pressures a touch .

Having said all that I ruined any chance of a decent race position by losing the rear end and spinning off on Lap 2 at , yup you guessed it , " T1 "  Roll Eyes

Grats to Bastian Billy & Dave

Billy , where did you get the rocket fuel from ? rumour is you have  german scientists working in the no brakes tech shop  Wink
