hmmmmm yes fuel issues!!! That is the polite way of putting it!
I am just so miffed about this race.
I had found an hour on Sunday to try the Merc/AC/Aston, even the D type and discovered that I was faster than Jose's fast lap from last season on what I thought was 30 laps worth of fuel the Aston, so there was no question as this was a free choice.
So going into the race and qualifying 4th(?)on race fuel, I was feeling quite happy. I shadowed the leading group and watched them swap places from a safe 3 sec gap for many laps. For once I thought I was being clever and really looking after my tyres for later in the race, hoping that the intense jostling ahead would cost them dearly in about 20 laps time. I was intent on looking after those vintage tyres.
Even when the leaders eased away, I resisted the temptation to chase too hard, hoping to benefit in the last laps.
Just when things appeared to be falling into place and I was closing quickly on Geoffers ( and maybe the others too?) I happened to glance at my fuel level as I rounded the last corner with about 7 laps to go.
0.1 litres left!!!! "What the heck??!!"
I just about made it into the pits as the engine died. (I can tell you that Mabel and Arnold were subjected to a vicious verbal assault and a severe beating with a worn jack handle later!!).ed
By the time I had got fuel and my inept pit crew had taken off a set of perfectly good and race warmed tyres, which they replaced with nice new cold ones.............................I was in last place!!!
The Aston was definitely much heavier on fuel than I expected, even though I had apparently enough for 30+ laps on board ??!!
Grat to those who got on the podium and all who finished.
I wish I could find the time to do full race practice to determine realistic fuel levels, Until then I am going to be adding 50% extra I think
