Moderator's Report

1 incident reported

Server replay time: 0h05m48s

Doni gets the tow of Fran on the straight to the Ostkurve,
they enter the braking zone side by side.
Fran keeps his line but Doni moves to the inside and has contact with Fran.

The key features to consider here are:

Was the shunter in control? Yes
Was the victim in control? Yes

Blatant Side by Side contact: Penalty 2 Places

On a straight, the overtaking car moves out to overtake but cuts back in too early. The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever and was in full control when the incident took place. There was no loss of control. Penalty for overtaking driver.

Season 29 - Friday Formula 2 Trophy - Round 7 - Hockenheim 67

This race will be at Hockenheim the second german Grand Prix circuit.
The Hockenheimring was originally built in 1932 using roads in the forest, it  was almost eight kilometres long and consisted of two long straights with a long "Eastern" corner in the forest and a U-turn inside Hockenheim joining them together.
In 1965, when the new Autobahn A 6 separated the village from the main part of the track, a new version of Hockenheim circuit was built, with the "Motodrom" stadium section. After Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident, two fast chicanes were added and the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970. A small memorial was placed near the first chicane, at the site of his accident. In 1982, another chicane was added at the Ostkurve (east curve), after Patrick Depailler was killed there in 1980; and the first chicane was made slower as well.
We race the 1967 version without the chicanes.

In S29 we will race F2 and Sport Car mods alternating.
This Trophy is intented as a fun series, so keep the fairness high and respect drivers with different skills.  Wink

Handicapping:
Heavies - have allways free car choice.
Lights   -  each F2 car can be used only once! Only one GT can be used twice!
Any illegal use of a car will be a DQ! So make shure you have a plan Wink

Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score.
ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps.

Please check the Season 29 pages for details regarding rules and the Friday Trophy pages in particular.

Why so few runners?  Sad  These cars are a blast! Thanks for some great fun early on, Cookie, but wondering why you didn't just want to hook up with me, disappear into the distance, and snag an almost guaranteed second place (with a chance for the win if I screwed up at all)? Lonely run to the end after that.

And a scoring revision, please. Francesco picked himself up a DQ (trying to escape the fencing on the inside of Ostkurv) on lap 3, but finished (albeit a lap down), so he should get points for 7th place.

Yes i think the same, after the incident with Doni my car was inside the fence.I have searched a way to exit but in reverse gear, probably this is the reason of the DQ but i was always on the grass.

That shouldn't be a problem for you.  You get good racing for 3 or 4 drivers, and fewer disco's.  Race wins are more likely, and a Heavy champion may have to simply cover the mileage, and some km. Cheesy

Yes, Dean, it is something of a disappointment to see our fields in general down in counts.  Seems to be way of things this season as even the Pro Division in GP65 cars is sparsely attended compared to previous years.

The situation re participation has taken a blow with the recent news that Greg Taber will not be participating here at the UKGPL for the time being.  He's come down seriously ill but being the fighter he is, I fully expect to see him on the grid again here and elsewhere.  I don't think that GT would mind in my breaking the news here.  Here is a link with the details.  Get well soon, Greg!

http://forums.speedgeezers.net/index.php?showtopic=38652

As for my race in the F2's, it came apart early as somehow I completely fudged-up my braking for T1 in an early lap.  I recall all too well the feeling of astonishment as I realized that I was skating off the road and spinning out.  Only in viewing the replay cap did I see the reason why.  Missed my so easily recognizable braking point by a country mile.  I can only think that as I ran down pit straight in a comfortable P3 and believing that I would easily get a nice tow after T1, I was filled with a feeling of over-confidence and complacency.  Asleep at the wheel?  Not far off that, I guess.

I recovered to get into a brief scrap with Fran wherein we collided and both lost time.  My engine was junk after this forcing a reset and pit stop as per the GCR's.  I considered at this point, being miles behind, to just run to half distance and pocket some points however unearned.  I then noticed that I was closing on DC at about one second per lap with the distance remaining to run being just about right to end up on his tail at the finish.  I carried on cutting good laps and continued to carve away that one second per lap deficit.  Last lap and I finally managed to get a tow from Dave to be right on his tail entering the stadium.  I challenged but it was with not much chance to pass.  Dave was rock solid and prevailed for P5.  Good fun and grats to you, DC, on a fine drive.

Grats to Dean on the win and to Tommie and Dave R for the podium finishes.  Nice to see TvO on track again.

Shocked by reading the bad news about Greg Shocked

All I can say is that there is hope for a full recovery!
My mother once had a stroke and lost her speach and was half side lame, but fully recovered after some month.
But you need the doctors! I know you have a lousy health care in the US...

I wish you all the best and if we can help in any way, just tell us!!!

Yes, it's a pretty sad state comparing the US medical system to the rest of the industrialized world. It's great if you have a lot of money unlike myself.

I'm not suffering much, luckily. I'd feel fine if my eye wasn't being irritated and I'm not trying to use my mouth for any reason. It's a bit annoying having to protect my right eye constantly.

Dean, I tried a few laps with Geli before this event. I was well off my pace and couldn't make more than a lap or two without wrecking. It was pointless to try this event. I'm not a big fan of the F2s myself, but I do enjoy an occasional race with them. I also think it's a high quality mod, but I like a car that's heavily influenced by the right side pedal.

I'm absolutely gutted to hear this Greg. I do hope you have as smooth-a-recovery as can be. It's been an absolute pleasure racing with you these past few seasons (when you weren't miles in front most of the time  Smiley).

Do let us know how your recovery progresses. Take care mate.

I'm sorry to see that you are sidelined Greg. Hopefully time will heal your wounds.

Your quote reminded me that my wife recently received the Hospital bill for the birth of our daughter. This prompted me to google "How to lower my medical bills." Surprisingly, there are several links with tips on how to negotiate a discount.

Get well soon!

I see that the moderation has found me at fault for the collision with Fran and dinged me two positions.  C'mon!  Be fair!  I had no idea it was Fran.  I'd spun off moments before and had only just recovered.  As I don't use Pribluda, I had no idea who was in the Matra.  Perhaps I should have guessed whom it was when the Matra occupied the centre of the road and resisted passing.  (Curiously, Fran held tight to the right hand side of the road on all subsequent laps)  Instead of cooperating with me to try and haul in the deficit to the lead group, I guess he was content to defend a minor position.  Opportunity lost.  Great, headsup stuff there, Fran.

Sorry Doni I can't give penalties for bad lines or uncooperative behaviour...

Yes pribluda helps a lot to know who is in front or besides you  Wink

Sorry Doni I can't give penalties for bad lines...

Yes, you can. From the rules page:

"...Persistent driving down the centreline of the track in order to make passing difficult is not acceptable..."

Quote
...or uncooperative behaviour...

That, not so much, unless there's weaving/blocking involved.

Quote
...Yes pribluda helps a lot to know who is in front or besides you  Wink

Until someone's DQ'd or dropped, then they may not show on Prib at all (as happened when I lapped Fran later that race).
