@ Evil one - I had my brake balance at 58F 42R and that seemed fine for hard braking. It's going fast I have trouble with  Roll Eyes

My brake balance was just about the mirror of yours Tony, 45F 55R. Which allows me to rotate the car into a corner whilst still on the anchors. I think Erling is right about a featherlight foot on the brakes, my best laps certainly seemed to result from careful use of the brake pedal...need some more track time and testing/training of my left foot I think.

Interesting that Erling also noticed the fragile engine issue. After my first spin I glanced at the health indicator and was stunned to see that it had dropped from an initial 93% ( which I had checked  on the grid) to around 80% in only a few laps  Shocked Usually I finish a race in GTL having only lost about 2-3%.

I monitored the damage over the next few laps and worked out where it was happening. My training in GPL means that I instinctively lift for gearchanges, despite being advised to keep my right foot planted in GTL. But It seemed to me last night that premature downshifts ( i.e. using the engine for braking effect) was doing the damage. Once I delayed my downshifts and ensured that the revs did not hit maximum the decline in engine health stabilised. It took me a while to settle into the new driving pattern and regain some race pace, but gradually I adapted and kept things going.

Ati was stunningly quick and consistant up front and Erling was his usual reliable self.
I think it is the downforce and grip of these cars that I am struggling with. I know/feel that there is time to be gained, but just cannot get my driving/setup combination into the zone where it all works together. But I guess that is the joy of sim racing??

Could be unrelated, but I was unable to join the Christmas race because I got dumped on loading first ATi, then Steve's cars
Ati Changed his car for me to join, but it was too late to ask Steve and I missed the race.

Last night I was in a black Gr4 car 83, and I saw no issues with others joining, though in all GTL events on that machine
now all the cars are always black, even in replays? any clues?

I wonder if Ati remembers what his first car choice at Fuji was?

I do believe you need to watch the revs under acceleration too.  I'm quite sure I didn't tend to overrev it on the downshifts, as it often makes me spin. I did however flog it pretty hard when going up through the gears, so think that's where my damage occured.

Cheers,
Erling

Problem solved--I think!!!!!!!!!!

Did as you said and turned all video setting to full.  Can now drive the black #41 and the replay works also........Went back and turned the shadows down the way I like them and it still  works fine.    I have a ATI video card, maybe that is the problem, it's about 5-6 years old.

Thanks

That is something I had a long long time ago with the Ferrari 250 GTO add-on. Unfortunately I'm blowed if I can remember what the cause was & googling it didn't come up with any answers. Have you tried different DX settings?

Race to forget for me, never really got the car to handle to my liking. The setup I had for Fuji was no good here as the corners were much slower & I had way too much lift-off oversteer. I got that sorted but like Clive I could not get the car to turn with the brakes on, although I didn't quite go as extreme on the brake setup as Clive did. Anyway I crashed early on & killed the engine so went & watched 'Rush' on Film4.

Congrats to the podium, cya at Sebring.

Concerning the CTD's I did some investigations:

There are three M1 Procar included in the mod (5PR, 082PR and the black 041PR) which use the wheel style 4 (first digit in the genstring).
I get CTD's with all three of them (trace file says: Error loading mesh file PROCAR_M1_WHEEL_LF_B_STYLE4.GMT to memory) as definitely
the file WHEEL_LF_B_STYLE4.GMT and also the files WHEEL_LR_B_STYLE4.GMT, WHEEL_RF_B_STYLE4.GMT and WHEEL_RR_B_STYLE4.GMT
are missing in the PROCAR_M1_WHEELS.GTL file.

So everyone who uses one of the three a.m. cars should get a CTD because some needed files are not available and it looks like a miracle that
Steve and Ati are able to use one of these cars without getting a CTD (downloaded and installed the complete mod again tonight and found
that my earlier installed version was the correct one).

Should that really be a bug in the mod and we are the first to detect it?

My video settings:

Detail--High
Player veh.--High
Other Veh--High
Circuit--Full
Spec Effects--med
Shadows--Medium

Does anybody have an idea ?  Huh

edit: I'll contact papag21 concerning this matter  Smiley

Kurt:
Go to Full on them instead if high.  Worked for me.  Put the shadows to my normal low, that doesn't seem to matter..  Try it!!!!!!

Kurt, looking through the car showroom I would say that there are eight cars with the problem wheel. I think we should install the wheel patch as I think this will fix it. Let me know if you get a response from papag21. Comparing the patch file with the one on our server, the files are different sizes so perhaps the wheel fix didn't make it to our install?
