Yup, nice write up Steiny, and grats on grabbing 4th despite all the problems.

Like I said before the race, I do love the Beemer, but its atrocious tyre wear, coupled with the fact that my first timed lap in the Porker was quicker than my best in the Beemer, convinced me I wasn't going to use it after all. (Could only manage 25.9 in the BMW; how Geoffers did 21 laps boggles my mind.. blink)

Also tried the Nissan, not least because I love its shape. Seemed the slowest for me, and I also found the placement of the windscreen wiper extremely annoying, so quickly abandoned it.

Have occationally done well in endurance in the past, so hoped to be competitive. Alas, quickly clear that Geoffers and Caspar were operating on a completely different plane.  A little slow off the line and then too much wheelspin, which made it easy for John to do his usual mugging, getting in front. Pressured him as hard as I could, and on L3 he got a vicious kick from his rear at the Degner Curve, sending him into the sand.  Thus past, I could chase Cap, whose Nissan appeared a handful.  Got past through the S Curves, only for him to pass again down the straight.  Next he overshot his brake point at Casino Triangle. I followed him, but got myself extriacated again first, and set off with Cap in hot pursuit.  Next lap same place, I repeated his move, and he did mine; quite hilarious really.  Unfortunately he spun, which meant the end of our scrap.

From this point the race turned quite lonely. Leaders were long gone and still moving away at 2-3 secs a lap, and gap to Cap continued to grow in chunks, presumably when he spun off.  Caught up to the leaders in the pits at the end of L25, but they were leaving just as I arrived.  Testing had indicated I would lose more time on the worn tyres, than it would take to replace them, so just did the whole package.  Exited the pits, and as fate would have it, just behind my old nemesis John.  He flashed me past later that lap, and I assumed he would pit.  He didn't though, so thanks John; very gentlemanly of you!

Few laps later, I was suddenly in front of Caspar, after one of his SnGs. Made a mistake and he was past, which was just as well, as he was so much quicker.  More lonely laps followed, but in the final stages, the gap to Caspar was suddenly down to 5 secs (from ½ a minute).  Had been doing rather sloppy laps, as there was no threat from behind, and seemingly no prospect of advancing, short of a technical problem for the leaders.  Tried to tighten up my act, but of course couldn't make any inroads in his lead.

Grats to Geoffers & Caspar, and commiserations to those with problems; especially Bill, who missed the entire race.  Strange with Clive's DQ, despite serving the SnG.  You did press 'enter' when the pit board showed ? (I don't think you're released if you don't)

Thanks to Tony for the organising of the entire season, and a Happy New Year to all  balloon balloon

Cheers,
Erling

Yeh, good write up Steiny & also Erling.  thumbup1

Decided from the outset to take the BMW, never even tried the other cars. Did quite a bit of testing for this, quite unlike me, & managed to improve the setup quite a lot over one that I had previously used. Tested all the tyres & got pretty much the same laptimes with all three options, so it was just a case of finding which had least wear. So I ended up with Dunlops on the front & Goodyears on the rear!  Huh

Just pipped Caspar to pole position with a lap nearly a second quicker than I had done in testing. Start was pitiful, too few revs, sorry to Cap behind, I think I held you up a bit, but was good enough to hold on to 2nd behind Caspar. Actually got a 'cut track' warning on the run down to T1, I think I must have driven in the pit exit lane!  Roll Eyes.

Anyhow, my 2nd place soon turned into 1st when Caspar nearly lost it at the Hairpin & soon turned into a fairly comfortable 7-8s advantage when he made another mistake. However after about a dozen or so laps the Beemer became more difficult to control as the tyres rapidly lost adhesion & Caspar's Porsche whittled my lead down to nothing & when I ran wide at the Dunlop Curve he nipped ahead. Could not keep up & by pitstop time Caspar was over 10s ahead.

Stop went smoothly, new tyres & fill with fuel, rejoined & soon regained the lead as Caspar peeled off into the pits for a second time  Huh Now had nearly 40s lead, surely that would be enough I thought. Tried not to push the tyres too hard & they did last a little longer, but with 10 laps to go the lead began to shrink in big chunks. Still thought I had enough in hand but then lost 6-7s when I had to take avoiding action when HeatCan spun in front of me at Dunlop. With all the tyre smoke I could not see his car & just clipped it which sent me through the gravel trap.

Gap now was down to around 15s with 5 laps left!  Shocked It was going to be close, but the thrilling finish didn't materialise as Caspar was in the pits again, 2nd S/G. So I eased it home to a rather lucky win, the handling was so bad over the last 3 laps I was basically cruising round & if I had been under pressure I would probably have binned it!

Congrats to all finishers & very bad luck to Caspar, you would have won easily without the S/Gs.  I Am Not Worthy

Thanks to Tony for organising, just a shame there was not a bigger grid.

Happy New Year all, cya Monday for the start of the new season.

Well, I tried all the cars prior to the race. Like Erling I found the windscreen wiper on the Datsun really annoying and was right in my eye line when trying to judge right handers so abandoned it quite quickly which is a shame as it seems to handle quite nicely. On to the Beemer Oh yes now we're talking.. What a car. Quickly felt at home in it for 10 laps or so until the tyres went off at around Lap 11 (In my case). How the hell Geoffers kept up that pace until his pit stop is beyond me,. "Hats off to you sir". So that left the Porsche. Never quite felt truly at home in it. but found I could get the tyres to Lap 30, possibly further with the server settings so sadly put the Beemer on Ebay and concentrated on trying to develop a set up I liked for the 914.

Found I was able to run around in the high 1:25's -> low 1:26's during the lead up to the race but for some reason was unable to replicate it come race day. Qualy went ok with a mid 1:24 which was very close to my PB but still some way off Erling's 1:23.8 so had to be content with a 5th place grid slot.

Lined up and the flag dropped. I bogged a little off the start but only slightly. Got the jump on Erling and chased the front 3 into T1. On the exit I suddenly found I couldn't see. Is there some way to turn Sun Glare off? I had downloaded GTR33's excellent HD patches and this effect in particular is very good when compared with the GTL default but I spent the 1st half of the race until the sun went down with real problems.

Anyway, back to the race...

Somehow managed to keep Erling behind me for 2.5 laps until I misjudged the entry into Degner, got a quick snap over steer for my trouble and ran into the kitty litter letting both Erling and Clive through. Still, no harm done, re joined and set off after the pair of them. Caught Clive and was following him closely though the Esses plotting my attack but lost it in T6, caught it before it became a spin but this put me several seconds behind. Clive then lost it exiting Degner and I was back through again. Found a recovering Cap7 at the Hairpin somewhere around Lap 8 so was back within a few seconds of him, then he spun into the chicane at the and of lap 9 and I was through. Held the position for just over a lap and then on the run down to Spoon Curve hit a bump which flicked me into the Armco letting Cap7 back through. Once free of my rolling roadblock he started to extend the gap. I made a few unforced errors, then he seemed to respond in kind and the gap came back down again as we all came to terms with the tyres starting to wear and finding previous entry and exits needed a bit more care. Finally I was back up his A$$ on Lap 19 and when he spun at the hairpin I was through and back up to 4th. Passed Erling when he pitted around Lap 26 so briefly got up to the heady heights of 3rd, there was no way in hell though II was going to stay in front of him on my used tyres so waved him through on the run down to 130R. Stayed out until lap 28 and then pitted.

The pitstop was the usual comedy of errors. Thought my pit stall was near the entrance but it wasn't so crawled down pit lane waiting for my pit crew to appear. Had to physically restrain the Body Shop team and the suspension guys who wanted to rebuild the car and elected for just a tyre change and fuel but the time spent selecting the wrong options initially cost me dearly. Rejoined in 5th behind Clive.

Then on Lap 31 made a rookie mistake. Seeing Geoffers closing fast and thinking he was in a battle for the lead I let him and cap7 through so lost a position, then to add insult to injury spun at Spoon curve and let Steiny through as well. I knew both were faster than me but I had hoped to make it a bit more difficult for them to get past, so was back to 6th as Clive had also pitted on this lap. Clive rejoined a few seconds behind and was on my tail a few laps later. I held him off until Lap 37 and then spun out at the end of the sequence of Esses letting him through so was back to 7th. A few laps later he pitted again and I took 6th place back. Which was where I finished.. I knew I wasn't particularly fast but too many unforced errors meant I was a very distant 6th behind the battling cap7 and Steiny ahead.

Congrats to Geoffers, you should try GPL, if you can drive the Beemer like that on worn tyres you should feel right at home. Smiley Conrgats also to Caspar and Erling for the other podium spots. Thanks Tony for organising this one, I've grown to quite like Suzuka. Shame more could not have made it but nice to see new names (To me). Hope you can all make a few Monday night races during 2017.

I really like the longer races and would like to see more of them added to the calendar. I'll miss the 50's Endurance races in 2017.

Happy New Year everyone..

John.

Aha, Thanks Tony, I scoured the options in game but couldn't find anything. Me thinks I'll keep it just for off line races.

Gotta go, Beer to be drunk and women to chase. Smiley Happy New Year all. Hic..

Hey guys!

Just got done registering, finally.  I am a member over at simjunkies.org, and Tony was nice enough to invite us to join in the xmas festivities.  Thanks again, Tony, as I had a great time.  True apologies to all of you, I spun in front of, causing a real scare, especially Eiffel, who could not avoid me, and probably was damaged.  Too bad more people could not attend, as this was a fantastic combo.  Congrats to the fastards on the podium, uncluding my good friend Caspar, and thanks to all the organizers!  Smiley

Just a bit about myself:  I am originally from Spain, now living in the U.S.  My name comes from most of the real cars I have driven through the years, including my current sled, my Audi TT.  A 'HeatCAN' is just another name for a 'Turbo'.   Wink  I have been simracing for over 10 years, mainly at SJ, and really enjoy helping with setups, and am pretty familiar with the tech side, as well as GTL, GTR2, and rFactor.  I have been out of regular racing lately due to the fact that my harware is unable to run the new mods, and not many are still running the classics.  So, watch out for me on track as the rolling chicane, he he.   laugh

Again, thanks for having me, and I may join a race or two in season 17, as currently I have Mondays off!!  Look forward to meeting all of you at Goodwood one of these years.

Hi HeatCAN, glad you had a good time. Can you tell the others that there more than welcome to take part, now that they are proper members of SROUK. Please fill in your drivers details, including nationality, then you get a little flag next to your name in the results.

I can certainly post a linky dink on your site a week before each race. Probably too late for tomorrows race tho.
