I had 1 lap @ 159.7 in the Abarth, but cannot repeat it.  It was on lap 5 of a race fuel run.  Looked at the replay several times and can't see what made it happen.  Think it might be just one of those GTL timing flukes....  Most of my laps are right around 2.1, give or take a few hundreds each way.  Staying focused is my problem, mind seems to drift away on such a big track with this car and the steady drone of the engine.
Might not be the place to mention it but Cap is running LM55 cars Sunday on Nogrip for those who need a "oldie" fix.. I can't make it, sure wish I could.

With so little power & using the highest gearing, it is all about keeping momentum in the Abarth. Don't know which gears you guys are using for the corners, but I use 3rd for both Lesmos & 2nd into the Parabolica. Using 2nd at the Lesmos seems to scrub off too much speed & probably loses 0.5s. 3rd seems a bit ponderous there but is definitely quicker.

I would not be surprised by a 1.58 in qually in the Abarth, but anyone using the Mini should be much faster.

Sorry, slightly off topic, but if any of you guys fancy a race in the 50s cars, NG are running them tomorrow (Sunday Dec 18th) at Clermont Ferrand. You won't need to download the cars as they are the same as we run here, so just the track. For those doing the 63WSC series it will be a chance to try out a track we will be using later in the season!

Did a shake down session a few minutes ago, just to make sure that I had circuit etc ready for Monday evening. Somewhat alarmed  Shocked Shocked to find that what felt a near perfect first flying lap in the Skoda, produced a 2:14 sec lap!!  scared scared scared scared

Feeling better now that I have discovered the Monza track WITHOUT chicanes!!! whistling whistling whistling and first 3 laps were 2:01,3...2:04....2:00,003 and still not got that 2nd Lesmo right. So I would agree with Ziu that the Skoda should go sub 2:00, but only if I can control that oversteer tendency  Undecided

Missed you last Monday Evil one

I was en route to Cornwall for a few days for my wife's birthday. I thought it healthier to go, rather than declare that I wanted to race at Mexico. if you know what I mean  Roll Eyes

Mostly last places but I really enjoyed this series. Love these small cars, especially the Skoda (impatiently waiting for the Imp, which I've never seen here in Germany in reality)
and I love "old style racing" on those 60's tracks like Zandvoort, Monza, Spa etc. where you can race without chicanes and other modern stuff.

The Skoda with about 5 hp more and a smaller gap between 3rd and 4th gear or a 5-gear box would have been really competitive.

Great fun with Tony and Steve slipstreaming around the track. Sorry again for the bumps guys.

Congratulations to Geoffers for the Championship, Matt for the win and especially Bill for a great 2nd place (always felt that the combination Bill/Mini can be a factor).

And a big thanks to Tony and all involved in organising this series - results to be posted tonight.

Merry Xmas - cu all in Suzuka for the Xmas-Special.

Had a 2nd place in the Championship before this race, but only 2 points ahead of Bob.  Thus worrying when he posted having done a 1:59 lap, as I had not yet breached the 2-minute barrier  scared

Tried all I could to get the Abarth faster. Removed toe-in front & rear, and overinflated the tyres, in an attempt to reduce rolling resistance. Not even sure if it's modelled, but had to try something. Later also firmed up the shocks & arb a notch, as it seemed to work better for me. Whether because of this, or simply because of the added practice gained when testing it, I was finally able to do sub-2-minute times, culminating in a 1:59.2.  Thus all set for an exiting race with Bob, so felt a bit like a deflating balloon, when he announced that he wouldn't be able to attend  Sad  Next one behind him was 26 points after me, so even with a win (entirely likely, as it was Ziu), I only needed 5 points to keep my 2nd place. Bar a DNF, that should be possible, even on a bad day.

Surprised to be the fastest Abarth on the grid - with Geoffers around, I surely expected him to run with that honour. Equally surprised to find most of the Abarths I had outqualified, practically queuing up to pass me on the run to the first curve. Thus both Geoff & John got past. Btw, even though they quickly regained their positions, it was great fun jumping the Minis ahead at the start  Grin   Latched onto John and managed to get past on the entry to Parabolica. Saw John's car twitch and then he went into the gravel.  Worried of contact between us, but as I didn't feel anything, I continued.  Replay thankfully confirmed that he was a victim of snap oversteer.

Chased after Ziu, who chased after Geoffers over the early laps, while behind me, Clive's Skoda got replaced by Bill's Mini.  Then Ziu lost control exiting Lesmo, slamming into the hedge. As always difficult to predict where his car would end up, and I was lucky to narrowly avoid him.  Continued chasing Geoffers, but not making any inroads. Bill did however, and nothing I could do to prevent him catching and ultimately passing me.   Next event was Kai going off at Parabolica, so I gained a place. Next lap however, it was my turn.  Momentarily lost focus at Parabolica and couldn't make the turn. As I was digging myself out, Kai & Clive came zipping past.  Nothing to do about Kai, but Clive I could reel in again over the following lap, with a bit of slipstreaming.  Side by side towards Parabolica. Did my best 'demon braking' impersonation. Really too late, so car did a coquettish twitch with the rear. Luckily didn't hit Clive, as a nudge would most likely have sent him into the gravel.  Thus regained my 5th, which held to the end.  On the final 3 laps, my car became pure poison on the entry to Parabolica.  Rear lashed out violently on my downshifts. Maybe a result of my missing toe-in, coupled with ever so slight tyre wear ?  Barely kept it under control, and hardly dared downshift on the last lap  scared

Grats to the podium, especially Bill  clap clap

Grats also to Geoffers on the Championship   I Am Not Worthy I Am Not Worthy    Very surprised to be 2nd myself, as I have had so many problems in this series.

Thanks to Tony, Merry Christmas to all.

Cheers,
Erling

Disappointing qually. After getting regular low 1.59s laps in testing I could only do 1.59.6 for 6th on the grid.

So threw caution to the wind at the start, max revs, bang the clutch out & the little Abarth fairly shot off the line. Passed the slow starting Minis, levelled with Erling, had to use a bit of shoulder to avoid the grass on the right (sorry Erling  whistling), passed Ziu & I was in the lead  Shocked. Didn't last long though, Matt & Kai in the Minis were soon through & although I was hoping to get a tow away from the rest I could not stay with them. Ziu was soon on my tail & got ahead down to the Parabolica but I repassed him on the S/F straight before he span out at Lesmo.

Gradually pulled away from Erling who was soon replaced by Bill  Shocked having a great run in the Mini. Bill gradually started to get closer, then suddenly I was 2nd, Kai had gone off. Bill was still closing until he ran wide at Lesmo & the gap doubled. Kai had recovered & passed Bill & soon was on my tail & passed going towards Parabolica only to catch some grass on the inside & spin out. Mysteriously on the final lap my Abarth slowed!  Roll Eyes & Bill was through into a well deserved 2nd place & a great result for the Kerbies

Congrats to Matt on a dominant victory & big cheer for Bill in 2nd.  clap clap

I think many seasons experience in the GC Mini League helped me in this series, but I've also really enjoyed the Abarth, a car which previously I did not get on with.

Big thanks to Tony for organising all the 2016 series, great job.  clap I Am Not Worthy

Hope you all have a great Christmas, see you at Suzuka next week & look forward to racing against you all again in 2017.  rockon
