I'm not good with these V8 monsters but I do enjoy chucking them around a fast track like this one. Had a couple of exciting laps when I finally caught Jeep but at the final turn my skill ran out and I span, leaving Jeep to disappear into the sunset. Then a couple laps of madness when I lost control of the car at a couple of places allowing Roguk to catch and pass me. Felt like quiting at that point but with only a few laps to go I carried on to the end.

Well, another opportunity to demonstrate my ineptitude in these beasts. Qualy went much as I'd expected with a low 1:17. I had broken into the 16's in practice but couldn't get there in Qualifying so lined up in 8th just in front of Tony and ccstevecc.

I did get the start I wanted though and got myself up into 5th jumping Roguk, Bob and Erling on lap 1, even had a long look at Ziu but he slammed the door in my face coming onto the straight. 1st few laps saw the front 4 pull away and me with my mirrors full of Erling's Camaro and Bob lurking in wait for any stupid move which might give him a chance to make two easy places. The superior speed of the Cougar just about kept them at bay but I could see they were getting frustrated at every turn.

At the end of lap 3 I must have scared the crap out of Erling. I came off the last turn and was heading for the SF line when Ziu's Camaro suddenly stopped dead. I know now it was the server deciding to ruin his evening but at the time I panicked and threw the Cougar across the track right in front of him, he must have thought WTF!! Very Verstappen like I'm sure but sorry Erling, no desire to take you out even if it looked that way from where you were sitting.

Held Erling at bay for the next few laps until going into the loop a bit too hot and running wide, then next lap going even wider and onto the grass allowing Bob through. Quickly lost touch with them both and soon had an inquisitive Tony looking for a way through We had a good tussle for a few laps. Me making the most of the speed of the Cougar and him with his better set up trying to climb in the boot at every corner. Eventually he spun at the final turn at the end of lap 15 and it all became a lot more peaceful in the Jeep cockpit and much of the remainder of the race was quiet. Then on Lap 19 noticed I was promoted to 5th a quick scan of the XD display showed Geoffers had met an unfortunate demise. By this time there was nothing short of divine intervention which would get me back on terms with the leading 4 and my 5th was very safe with Tony making further mistakes behind allowing Roguk to move past him into 6th but a long way adrift of me.

Thanks Bob for a great series and Tony for making it all happen.  and congrats to the podium and also Geoffers for the title even if it was with a DNF.

No worries John; realised it was just a reflex action - and quite a good piece of avoidance for that matter Smiley   Hairy moment though, and brought Bob right up and personal, when I lost speed.  Take a look at the server replay which is from my viewpoint, around the 270-mark, if you want to see what it looked like  Smiley

Cheers,

First of all, big thanks to all who participated in this series.  Grats to Geoff, Ziu and Erling for leading the way in that order.  The Cups are in the mail, just keep waiting LOL!!!  And again thanks to Tony for putting  the information I gathered into a great series for all of us.  As I said before the idea for this series was a little selfish of me as I enjoy these cars a lot, part of my youth and memories past.
The race went well, had my usual bad start and then gained a few places due to other's problems.  Spent most of the race chasing Erling.  I just couldn't make up enough time on him to get close, as he stated 3 to 4 seconds between us for most of the race.  After about lap 26 or so the tires on the Plymouth fell way off and then it was just drive to the end and survive.  Again thanks all.....See you all a Goodwood, the only motor I have left is the Austin 100, so blink your lights and I will move over as you lap me.

That's no excuse at all; Clive made the Healey move pretty darn quickly last year..  Smiley

A late post but just to say thank you to Bob for organising this Trans-Am Series and to Tony for his expert input.

Despite driver error creeping in particularly early on this last race, I have enjoyed the season and would be more than happy to race these cars again next year.

And of course, well done to Geoffers for the Championship clap
