Having tried each car beforehand to see which suited my driving style, I plumped for the Cougar as I was 3+ seconds quicker in it than in the Cuda, despite the latter needing a shorter braking zone.
V8's have always been top of my list and so must thank Bob and Tony now for setting up the races for this season
Managed to avoid spoiling my paintwork during the initial settling-down period of the first couple of laps. Then from about lap 5 onwards almost to the end had an excellent tussle with Roger in his Shelby ahead of me, which for most of the race maintained a gap of just a few feet. My Cougar could match his speed but even with slipstreaming, I couldn't get the momentum to overtake him. I found myself holding my breath literally sitting on the edge of my chair with the 7 or so laps of nose-to-tail racing that we had together, and I felt each of us respected the others' track position perfectly.
With a few laps to go, our gear changes briefly became out of synch and I found myself slowly edging ahead of Roger, and as at Zolder, with about 1 1/2 laps to go, I was aware of an evergrowing dot in the distance - Tony again. The gap seemed to shrink really quickly and I wondered if I was being teased to the finish line
, with less than 3 seconds again separating us over the line.
Having watched the replay, particularly from your rear window Roger, I realise I need to concentrate more on my setup, as my car spent too much time with a wheel in the air. Looks dramatic, but I expect it's upsetting the traction at the back.
Well done to Ati, Ziu and Geoffers for their 123 and am really looking forward to the next at Green Valley.
